Sample Page (Page 61)

This is an example page. It's different from a blog post because it will stay in one place and will show up in your site navigation (in most themes). Most people start with an About page that introduces them to potential site visitors. It might say something like this:

Hi there! I'm a bike messenger by day, aspiring actor by night, and this is my website. I live in Los Angeles, have a great dog named Jack, and I like piña coladas. (And gettin' caught in the rain.)

...or something like this:

The XYZ Doohickey Company was founded in 1971, and has been providing quality doohickeys to the public ever since. Located in Gotham City, XYZ employs over 2,000 people and does all kinds of awesome things for the Gotham community.

It’s the Ian Botham Derby this weekend as Yeovil Town take on Scunthorpe United at Huish Park on Saturday afternoon.

FORM…

YEOVIL TOWN

With the Glovers in the midst of small run of bad form, with one win in five, a victory was needed against Tamworth last time out. And a 2-0 win is just what the Huish Park faithful got. Yeovil grew into the game through the first half with a goal looking likely for the home side. They were then rewarded for their good work when Ryan Jones‘ bagged the opener after a mazy solo run through what seemed the entire Tamworth team, on the 40th minute.

Yeovil vs Tamworth.
Yeovil vs Tamworth.

The Glovers then doubled their lead 10 minutes in to the second period when on loan centre-back, Declan Skura, became the scorer. Not only did Billy Rowley‘s men secure all there points, it was potentially the most complete performance this season from the team. Hopefully this was a little glimpse into what the future could look like under the 43-year-old.

SCUNTHORPE UNITED

The Iron haven’t been in the most scintillating form over their last five games with three losses and two draws in that time. However, they do sit sixth in the table, so will no doubt be a dangerous opposition.

The Lincolnshire side didn’t had a game of two halves last time out as they drew 3-3 with Solihull Moors. The first half was one to forget as Conor Wilkinson put The Moors 0-2 up at halftime. The Iron came out all guns blazing and pulled one back through Danny Whitehall on the 48th minute. The action kept coming when Solihull’s Tyler French was sent off just five minutes later. This gave Scunthorpe hope and they equalised with 10 minutes as Whitehall got his second, before completing his hat-trick on the 85th minute. Then just when the home side looked like they secured all three points, Isaac Moore popped up to spoil the party.

With the shipping of those three goals, that was the third time in as many games that The Iron have conceded three goals.

KEY PLAYERS…

YEOVIL TOWN – RYAN JONES

It feels good to be going a couple of games not saying the same two names for once this season. Although Jed Ward and Luke McCormick have been by far our best players this term, it feels like we are becoming less reliant on them two for our wins, other players are starting to step up. Jones is one of those name and although he hasn’t been able to get the run of games he’d have hoped due to being cup tied, he really showed up on Tuesday night.

You have to start with that wonderful solo effort. The 23-year-old drifted past the Tamworth players like they were not there before striking it past Jasbir Singh from a tight-ish angle on the corner of the six-yard box. Outside of that goal, Jones created plenty and played like a player who wanted to be here (unlike some). As with many this season, let’s hope it’s not just a one off.

SCUNTHORPE UNITED – DANNY WHITEHALL

Whitehall is one of two players I could have picked for this, with Callum Roberts, being the other. And although, Roberts has more goal involvements this season, I have to pick the man who has been plugging away and scoring goals whilst his side have been far from impressive over the last five games.

As mentioned in the form, last time out for the striker was a memorable day. Not only did he help his team get back into a game and pick up a point, he claimed the match ball in doing so. That hat-trick has put him level with Roberts this season on 13 goals this season, with the two fighting it out to be the Iron’s top scorer.

Will Wannell withstand Whitehall?

THE GAFFER…

Andy Butler will be heading to Huish Park on Saturday to take on Billy Rowley. The 42-year-old  has been in charge of the Iron since 2024, when he replaced Jimmy Dean.

It was as the Doncaster Belles, in woman’s football, where Butler cut his teeth as a manager, before he took over as caretaker boss of the mens side, where he had played 245 times.

As a player Butler started his career at Scunthorpe before going on to play for eight other teams. He would play 675 times during his career.

Butler has only faced the Glovers once as a manager, earlier this season, when he won 1-0.

LAST TIME WE MET…

It’s been quite few dull years when these two side have faced off. When they met earlier this season at the Attis Arena, Scunthorpe secured a 1-0 win thanks to a Tyrell Sellars-Fleming goal.
Scunthorpe celebrate Tyrell Sellars-Fleming’s opening goal.

It was an even more drab affair when the last played at Huish Park in 2022, with the game finishing 0-0, here’s hoping for a more lively encounter this time around.

DON’T I KNOW YOU…

There will be no ex-Glovers coming to Huish Park on Saturday.

THE MAN IN THE MIDDLE…

Callum Walchester will be the man with the whistle on Saturday afternoon. For more on him and his team read Ben’s article here.

Callum Walchester is the man in the middle for the Glovers’ clash against Scunthorpe United this weekend.

He’s a busy man these days having covered 19 games this season, the vast majority of which have come in the National League.

In ten games at this level this season, he’s dished out 38 yellows, and three reds – and three pens.

He has already sent of a Scunthorpe player this season too, Joe Starbuck got a pair of yellow cards in their away game at Brackley and topped off a feisty contest by getting exclusive use of the changing room ahead of his team mates.

He’s officiated the Glovers twice, both green and white wins actually, most recently, in a 2-0 away win over Maidenhead United – goals from Frank Nouble and Harvey Greenslade – as well as a 1-0 away win over Braintree, the latter in the National League South campaign.

He’ll be assisted by Ryan Saward and Thomas Staten, David Nicholson is on fourth official duties.

A great performance from the Glovers saw them coast past Tamworth last night. Here are Ian’s Five Conclusions from Huish Park.

How comfortable was that? From the first ball being kicked, Yeovil felt in total control across the pitch last night. How Tamworth are 10th in the division I have no idea. They kept things condensed centrally, but as soon as we were able to get the ball into wide areas they didn’t really know how to contend with us. We should probably have created more in the first half for our dominance but in a team that’s rebuilding confidence and trying to find a rhythm after a dismal Cup exit, it’s understandable.

Close from Troy Perrett and he knows it.

We were defensively sound. You can only contend with what you’re up against, and Tamworth had nothing other than route one for the majority of the match, but the back three of Jake Wannell, Declan Skura and Joy Mukena dealt with everything they had to with relative ease. They handled the Tamworth big lads well and in the latter stages when the visitors started working crosses into the box, they dealt with that too.

Ryan Jones is coming good. He’s been in and out because of being cup-tied and postponements but after last week’s decent performance, Jones stepped it up again. He was a constant threat on the left hand side and really thrives when he’s carrying the ball. I don’t want to be hyperbolic, and I’m not going to be, but the way he moves with the ball and runs reminds me of Michael McIndoe. Clearly it’s too early to say he’s the second coming, but clearly there’s magic in those boots. His wonderful first touch, his fleet footed dribble through defenders and drilled shot into the bottom corner was superb.

It was the reaction we needed. After a terrible weekend everyone had to follow up. Did the Sutton win paper over the cracks? What’s going to happen to the teams around us? Well, pleasingly we really built on last Wednesday – albeit against very different opposition – and managed to get ourselves up to 14th and eight points clear of the bottom four. The nervousness of last week has dissipated and we can go into another home match on Saturday with confidence.

Billy Rowley
Pic C/O Gary Brown

We need to build on it again. The lack of consistency has been the story of our season. The elation of Sutton to the despair of Southport and then the uncomfortably comfortable win last night is our season in a microcosm. We’ve got an opportunity to step up against Scunthorpe – who are without a win in six matches – and show that we really are coming good. It’s not going to be perfect, but back to back wins at home gives us enough reason to be positive.

Jed Ward has won enough votes throughout the month of February to be named your Gloverscast Player of the Month.

It’s the fourth time he’s taken the monthly gong, having already won August, November and December.

He was named Man of the Match three times and made the podium on three other occasions, the only time Ward wasn’t named in the top three was the 3-2 home win over Sutton Utd.

Credit to James Daly who made a late charge for the monthly prize, three Man of the Match votes of his own, but wasn’t enough to topple the on loan keeper.

Dakarai Mafico, who was Man of the Match against Rochdale, finished in third.

….in the middle of our goal.

James Daly has, for the second game in a row, been named your Man of the Match.

He opened the scoring against Southport before things, urm, went wrong later on in the game.

As happens often, Jed Ward was high in the votes two, taking second spot in the vote.

Yeovil Town boss Billy Rowley urged supporters to stick with his team after they picked up another vital three National League points with a 2-0 home win over Tamworth at Huish Park on Tuesday night.

The Glovers responded to the disappointment of Saturday’s FA Trophy exit at the hands of lower league Southport with a controlled performance which was settled by a superb solo goal from Ryan Jones just before half-time and a strike from loan defender Declan Skura ten minutes after the break.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Josh Perkins after the game, Rowley said: “I think it’s important to remind everyone, Darren (Simpson, assistant manager) and I, have only been here just over three months, we have not had loads of time to work with the players and the position we are in the league we have been in a little bit of a scrap at times.

“Confidence was is low and it’s been hard to  really embed our ideas on the pitch and that’s natural. Being the fourth manager this season and (with the players) having had so many different voices. So, it is obviously two good (league) wins and I would say, stick by us because I feel like we’re going to come good.“

Facing an organised Tamworth side, Yeovil had to bide their time to find a breakthrough and it came from a moment of magic from Jones who took a superb first touch to control a sumptuous pass from Brett McGavin, then beat two defenders who rocketing in the opener with 40 minutes on the clock.

Rowley said he had “a really good feeling” about his side from the opening minutes of the game and described Jones, who joined in mid-January, as “a wizard.” He added: “I was watching hours of him a couple of months ago. Jamie (Hedges, Yeovil’s Head of Recruitment) nudged me on him and I was watching him for ages and that’s what you see with him, like he glides with the ball. He’s very rare because he’s a left-footed player that can play on the left and still drive both ways, which is quite rare to see. He opens up a lot of options for us and he was really good tonight.“

Skura added the second ten minutes after the half-time break when the on loan Wycombe Wanderers man struck home after visiting keeper Jas Singh had turned McGavin’s free-kick on to the bar.

Rowley said: “I said in my first interview when Declan arrived, once he gets fit and familiar with the place and the boys, he’s going to be a top centre-back for us and I think he’s proving that. I can’t really think of a bad game he’s had really. For him to step into the building after four or five months on the treatment table, he’s now fit, he’s feeling good and he’s able to play 90 minutes and yeah, he looks like a Rolls Royce at times.

“I thought we got good early pressure on their back line and it resulted to them flipping a lot of balls in the air and I felt like we covered each other well and we dealt with first contacts well. And then I think Brett (McGavin), Dak (Mafico), and then Finn (Cousin-Dawso) when he came on were really good at mopping up and smoothing out the second ball. All-round it was really pleased with the defensive display, we were well organised and everybody’s dug in and done their job.”

The result moved Yeovil up to 14th in the National League Premier Division table and re-established an eight point gap from the relegation places with games in hand over many of the teams below them.

They face sixth-placed Scunthorpe United at Huish Park on Saturday with the Lincolnshire outfit without a midweek fixture.

Rowley said: “When you lose games things are looked at as excuses and when you win they’re reasons, but we haven’t really been able to train too much at all since the Telford game (at the end of January). All the boys have been able to do is recover, play, recover, play. We have we’ve got a few new boys in there and we’re trying to teach them through video and illustrations and we haven’t been on the grass too much. Hopefully we can get through Scunthorpe and then we willhave a whole week of being on the training ground and being more familiar with what’s being asked. But I felt like the boys delivered everything that was asked today and really happy for them.“

Yeovil Town responded to the disappointment of last weekend’s FA Trophy exit with a massive three points with a dominant performance against Tamworth under the lights at Huish Park.

Ryan Jones put the Glovers ahead with a superb solo goal five minutes of the first half remaining and then on loan defender Declan Skura reacted to turn in a second after Brett McGavin’s free-kick came back off the crossbar ten minutes in to the second half.

It was the performance which was the reassuring factor in this one, unlike the late, late show against Sutton United six days earlier, Yeovil looked totally in control for the entire match.

First half

There were three changes from last weekend’s FA Trophy exit at Southport with Ryan Jones, Troy Perrett, and Aaron Jarvis all returning to the starting XI. There were boos when Jarvis’ name was read out over the tannoy ahead of the match. Whatever you think of him, that is not going to help.

From the off it was clear that Tamworth were going to be a very different test to the one they faced in their last outing at Huish Park, the late 3-2 win over Sutton United, as they start with a very rigid 4-4-2 looking to play it long towards striker Oliver Lynch. Brett McGavin pinging a couple of great passes, but not much in the way of openings for either side in the opening ten minutes.

The nearest to an opening for either side came after 19 minutes when a Mafico corner almost found James Daly on the near post and almost got his fourth in three matches with an attempted back heel. Couldn’t quite pull it off. Soon after a good free-kick in the box appeared to be missed by Declan Skura at the back post, but that was about as near as it got for either side.

Tamworth’s style is making it very narrow in the middle and it is going to take a bit of magic from either Ryan Jones or Josh Sims in the wide positions in there is going to be any joy for Yeovil. Patience and keeping switched on to the danger Tamworth offer will be key.

A great ball from McGavin picked out Jones on the left, Jarvis did well to pick up the pieces and laid it off to Troy Perrett, but his shot flashed wide. Good move, that is about as near to a clear cut chance as we have seen.

I told you it was going to take a bit of magic from Sims or Jones and on 40 minutes that is exactly what happened. Another fantastic pass picked out Ryan JONES on the left, he took an amazing first touch but then topped it by weaving past two defenders and then smashed the ball across Jas Singh and in to the far corner. Take a bow, that was special.

There was applause from Huish Park as the half-time whistle sounded. There have not been many chances in this one but we have something to build on.

Half time: Yeovil Town 1 Tamworth 0

Second half

There was a change in personnel for Yeovil Town at the start of the second half with Aaron Jarvis replaced by Finn Cousin-Dawson. It looks as if James Daly, who has three goals in his previous two games, is playing through the middle with the Cardiff City loan duo of Perrett and Mafico in behind him.

Tamworth came out after the break looking but their forward play has created space for Yeovil going forwards and one player who was exploiting it was Mafico. On 54 minutes, the youngster found such a pocket of space and was fouled just outside the area. There was a queue lining up to take it, but it was McGavin and his effort was pushed on to the bar by Singh and Declan SKURA did superbly to hammer home the rebound.

This is the response supporters wanted after the disappointment of last weekend’s FA Trophy exit and full credit for Yeovil for keeping on pushing. First goals for first Jones and now Skura.

On 65 minutes, Mafico threaded a great pass to the on-rushing Perrett who was running in to the box, the midfielder tried to take it past the defender who got it away for a corner. You just felt a first time shot was the better option, but Yeovil still going for it.

Alex Whittle replaced Josh Sims on 67 minutes with the impressive Jones switching from left to right flanks and then with the game pressing in to the final ten minutes Tahvon Campbell replaced Daly.

Campbell thought he had made an instant impact when he met a great ball in to the box from McGavin with a header, but the ‘goal’ was ruled out for a push. No real complaints from the Glovers or Tamworth, I would add.

Yeovil have controlled this second half well, there has been less of the attacking moments which we saw in the first hour of the game as the game has pressed on.

With two minutes to go, Huish Park had another nice moment as Ollie Hughes replaced Troy Perrett. At 17 years, nine months and five days he becomes the fifth youngest player to represent the Glovers in a competitive men’s league game. Devon Arnold is still the holder of the youngest at 17 years, one month and eight days. Kyle Ferguson also replaced Ryan Jones.

In the final minute of injury time another opportunity to get a third fell to Campbell. McGavin blasted it towards the near post, Singh did not deal with it and Campbell piled in looking to get a touch but it went win.

A brilliant response to last weekend’s disappointment, Yeovil controlled the game for the full 90 minutes. A goal in each half and a clean sheet and moving up the National League table. Well done, lads, that’s the stuff.
