Gloverscast #382 – “Ready to pluck Burt Reynolds”
Will it be on? Won’t it be on? Is it a Derby? Isn’t it a Derby? Dave, Ben and Ian are back pondering tomorrow’s FA Trophy match with W*ymouth.
Will it be on? Won’t it be on? Is it a Derby? Isn’t it a Derby? Dave, Ben and Ian are back pondering tomorrow’s FA Trophy match with W*ymouth.
Yeovil Town Women made it two league wins in a row last weekend as they defeated Bideford by seven goals to nil. Despite a fortnight without football, Paul Knight’s side returned to league action emphatically.
Paul Knight made three changes to the starting eleven who beat Feniton as Emma Brazell, Becca McManus and new signing Hannah Hughes were all handed starts.

The deadlock was broken after a mere fourteen minutes as Becky Miles saw her free-kick effort fly past the Bideford goalkeeper to give the Glovers a deserved lead.
As the half-time whistle edged closer, Yeovil doubled their lead in the 42nd minute, Terri Will scored, giving the hosts some daylight heading into the break.
After the break, half-time substitute Ceyda Fordrey made a swift impact as she saw her effort saved before Chloe Davenport followed up to give Yeovil three in the 56th minute.

After a largely dominant second half performance, a prolific spell saw Yeovil score four goals in as many minutes and turn the scoreline into a thrashing. Miles, Hannah Hughes, Niamh Nicholls and Abbie Carslake provided the goals in a late goalscoring flurry which occurred between the 75th and 79th minutes.
A debut goal for Hughes as well as Miles’ second of the game and 8th of the season all but ensured that the three points would be Yeovil’s.
The match finished 7-0 and Yeovil Town Women now find themselves 4th in the Regen Arable Division One South.
The player of the match was awarded to debutant Hannah Hughes.
Yeovil 7 – 0 Bideford
After a battling first half we came out flat in the second half and struggled to match Yeovil’s tempo and paid the price! Two week break to get things right!

Yeovil Town Women manager Paul Knight spoke after the win.
“We’ve had no football for a couple of weeks and to be fair, we were relaxed today, Paul began. We felt relaxed and I thought the football was better, the performance was about how well they played on the pitch and I think that outweighs goals to be honest.
Knight expressed his satisfaction with the integration of young players into his team,
“It demonstrates what Yeovil is all about, the pathway we’re trying to create. We had a requirement to call players up this weekend due to injuries and in a club of our size that’s what we’ve got to be able to do. The two young girls have performed and did not look out of place.
Looking ahead to next week,
“I think we just needed to play today, we haven’t played for two weeks. Regarding what we do this week we just go about our business as normal and we just pick the strongest team to go out and perform next week.”
Yeovil Town Women return to action on Sunday 8th December as they travel to Weston Super Mare 14:00 KO.
New signing Hannah Hughes was awarded Player Of The Match for her performance yesterday 🤩

Captain Matt Worthington has said his Yeovil Town team-mates understand the significance of a derby against W*ymouth in the FA Trophy third round this weekend.
The Glovers host the National League South strugglers this weekend and the skipper has his eyes set on progressing in the competition.
The midfielder returned as an 88th minute substitute in last Saturday’s 2-0 win at Woking having missed the previous two months with an ankle injury sustained in a freak incident when warming up in the goalless draw at Tamworth in October.
Speaking about the injury, he told BBC Somerset’s Jack Killah: “It’s been five or six weeks since I was last playing, so it is nice to be back involved with the team and I am looking forward to the weekend. I had a masterplan of a kick-off and there was a sniper in the stands that took me out! It was really unfortunate, not what I had planned obviously! It’s just a freak landing and injury, so I will not be looking to do that again!
“It’s been a difficult time. Luckily I have not had many injuries in my career and always been fit and available, so it has been difficult but a lot of players have had worse injuries, so I cannot be too down about it. It was great to get back, the lads had a great game and we just needed to see the game out (when I came on). Now it is just about building minutes up again and getting firing again.
“I was still in every day behind the scenes and I like to think I like am quite loud and funny and able to have a laugh with the team. It is just about being around the group and trying to help out as much as I can. It is a learning experience, not something I have had to do too often, so I am just pleased to be back.”

The Terras, who sit second-from-bottom of the National League South, make the short journey up the A37 this weekend having lost their last three matches and without a manager following the sacking of Mark Moseley.
Former goalkeeper Jason Matthews took interim charge of their latest defeat, a 1-0 loss at home to Tonbridge Angels last weekend, and is currently expected to take charge at Huish Park. However, the Terras are not adverse to unveiling a new manager on the day of the biggest game of the season (for them!), so don’t rule out a new boss being in the dug-out.
Worthy is well aware that, despite the desperate form of our seagull-bothering ‘friends’, the atmosphere of a derby will make form count for little.
He said: “It is a massive game. If you can draw them, you want to pull them out of the hat. I have played in a few, I scored in one away from home which was brilliant, so all the lads know how did the occasion it will be on Saturday. The form we are in at the moment, everyone will be ready to take on the challenge.
“I haven’t seen too much of them, I do not look at them, how they are getting on. But we know that comes Saturday it does not matter what their form is, it is a derby game so they will be up for it. It will be a difficult game, no matter where they are in the league, so we have to be on top of our game.
“Any tournament is big, we were gutted about going out of the FA Cup, because we wanted a run in that. But it is about continuing the winning mentality, it doesn’t matter if it is the Somerset Men’s Premier Cup, the FA Trophy or the league, it is about building on our form, so we will be looking to have a good run in it.“
Yeovil Town manager Mark Cooper has said that he and his group are looking forward to the FA Trophy clash with W*ymouth this Saturday and thinks the occasion will make for a better environment and feeling.
Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Jack Killah on Thursday morning he spoke of his respect for the opposition, but that he was looking forward to renewing the rivalry;
“Every club has their closest rivals that they want to beat and our is W*ymouth, it’s the closest, biggest club to us – W*ymouth, Taunton are similar – and like you say, throughout history there’s been some big encounters, that will be no different on Saturday, it adds a bit of spice to it, rather than just being an mundane occasion, we’re going to have a real edge to the game, I think we’re better when that is the case. We full respect every team we play, and we know we have to get everything right and work really hard to get a result.”
“We’ve watched their last five, six games. They’re different, now without a manager, they changed their manager last week, Jason Matthews is a great lad, he’s in charge, he’ll have them organised, whatever W*ymouth team turn up, we know, just by the occasion it’s going to give them a lift, so, form goes out the window. We have to play well.”

Jack Killah confirmed in his questioning that Will Buse will NOT be eligible to play for his loan club against his parent club, but other than that, on a Yeovil front, things are looking up.
The gaffer confirmed that he has a clean bill of health with club captain Matt Worthington available after his cameo against Woking and it’s only the two suspended defenders that are unavailable.
“We’ve had a frustrating period with having key players unavailable, which has rocked us, probably you would say most teams get that, hopefully ours is done now, after this Saturday we get Wannell back, Bernard back and obviously now we have got Matt (Worthington) back too,
the longer you have your key players, best squad players available, the better, you have more scope to pick and it’s good to have as many players available as we can.
We came through pretty well unscathed (from the Woking game), it wasn’t a high distance covering game for us, we played most of the game in their half and we managed to save quite a lot of distance in our legs.”

On the competition as a whole, Cooper appreciates that both Yeovil and he have had individual success in, which will come with all the perks of a cup run, including the financial rewards.
“I’ve been lucky enough to win it as a manger, it’s fantastic to take thousands of fans to Wembley and win it, it’s a prestigious trophy, it’s the FA Cup for us and it’s one that we want to try and go far in, we tried to set our sights on at the start of the season – can we have a really good Trophy run?
Winning at Wembley is fantastic feeling, the best feeling as a player or a manager.”
“Saturday will be a good gate which means more revenue for both teams, and if you get to the latter stages, the semi finals you’re going to bet big gates, if you get to the final and you play another big club, it’s a big crowd and you get a split of that, we want to try and go far”
So, would we, Coops!

These spaces are located close to the turnstiles and gate leading to the away end. Please email info@eufc.co.uk well in advance of your visit if possible to allow us to make any necessary arrangements before matchday. Our disability liaison officer Kevin Spencer (contact details below) will endeavour to answer any questions you may have in advance.
We currently have wheelchair bays in front of the old stand which are at pitch level and wheelchair bays in the Main Stand. In the old stand, companions can be seated in the row behind the wheelchair user. This depends on the number of ambulant disabled supporters requiring seats on the front row. Please note that we only have a limited number of spaces available for wheelchair users, and allocation is subject to availability.
The club operates a ticketing policy that recognises that disabled supporters may need assistance to fully enjoy the matchday experience. Disabled supporters are entitled to bring a personal assistant/carer to matches free of charge when the club is provided with proof of receipt of Disability Living Allowance/PIP for either mobility or care. EUFC reserves the right to ask for proof of disability before issuing any concession. To secure a carer ticket, please purchase a valid matchday ticket and email info@eufc.co.uk with your DLA/PIP proof at least 24 hours in advance of matchday and we will issue the carer ticket.
There are no step-free seats at ground level, but there are seats with just a few steps and handrails in the old stand. There is a lift for both wheelchair and ambulant disabled users in the Main stand.
There is a disabled toilet behind the old stand which is accessible for ambulant disabled fans and it is wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. There is also a fully accessible disabled toilet in the Main stand and in hospitality areas.
Kevin Spencer is the Fleet Supporters’ Trust disability liaison officer. Kevin is an ambulant user himself and has experienced very contrasting levels of facilities and accessibility at grounds across the country in the National League. It is essential that we try our best to cater for and welcome every fan, no matter what their individual needs. Everybody should be able to enjoy the game and feel a part of it.
We hope you will find this information helpful. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Kevin by email on dlo@kevins.co.uk
Right… this one is a bit complicated, so stay with us.
Tickets for the Glovers’ trip to Forest Green Rovers on New Years’ Day are now on sale in advance.
The first thing to note is that you’ll need to sign up for a “My FGR” account before going any further, a valid email address and phone number and a unhackable password is needed.
Then once on the correct match page, you’ll need to “Change to Away” so that you’re not in with the home fans… obviously.
Right, awesome, now you should have a screen that looks like this… with THREE different options, because anything else would be far too straight forward.
Now, obviously, having three different options means three different price points… I’m not typing all that out, so here are three screen shots.
If you are choosing to pay the roof & seat premium there are two rows to choose from (fair play to the proud owners of B29 and B30 who were QUICK to secure their seats).
Right, so now we’re getting somewhere.
Select your ticket, tell FGR how you heard about them (not an option you can skip past), head to the checkout, spot the £2 processing fee that has appeared out of nowhere for those wishing to collect physical tickets on the day, immediately change to either Print Your Own Ticket or E-Ticket and pay the good people.
Tough, get the park and ride.
“There is no general admission parking at the stadium or official parking within the immediate local vicinity.
Park and Ride – We advise first-time visitors to use the Park and Ride facility at Renishaw, South Entrance, Bath Rd, Stroud GL5 5EY (Please note P+R is only currently available for Saturday/weekend fixtures). The P+R opens as 12:30pm for 3pm kick-offs, and the service costs £5 per car.”
If you require any additional assistance, there is some availability for any disabled supporters making the trip.
“Disabled facilities – We have a limited number of seats with level access at the front of the East Stand, as well as a platform for disabled fans with lift access. There are disabled toilets around the stadium, including one in the Green Man, two either side of the East Stand concourse and one opposite the board room.
Complimentary tickets for carers – If you need to be accompanied by a carer or assistant, we’ll give them a free ticket. You’ll need to present documentation to show one of the following:
• You’re on the medium to high rate Disability Living Allowance (mobility or care)
• You receive the Enhanced Rate Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
• You receive Severe Disablement Allowance
• We can also accept a letter from your GP.
To enquire about our disabled facilities and ticketing, call 0333 123 1889 or email reception@fgr.co.uk.
Disabled parking – We have a limited number of disabled parking spaces for blue badge holders. These can be booked up to four weeks in advance at £10. To avoid disappointment, book early by calling 0333 123 1889.”
“Cashless – The Bolt New Lawn is a cashless stadium and therefore does not handle cash at any time. You can only make payments via debit/credit card and contactless.”
Go to Stroud, no, seriously. – [Ed. Don’t worry, Huish Hugh’s away ground guide will be available soon]
“TBNL Away Fan Zone – Away fans are very welcome at The New Lawn. We have an Away Fan Zone to the right of the ground entrance. The Away Fan Zone has a food truck, BrewDog bar, Nijhaus toilets and a large marquee with picnic benches for the exclusive use of away fans. Please note, the fanzone is usually not open for Tuesday night fixtures.
Nailsworth – The local village of Nailsworth is just over a mile away and has plenty of food options and independent shops, however, please be aware that not all establishments welcome away football fans.
Stroud – Further afield, the local town of Stroud has ample pubs and restaurants and is only a short bus or taxi ride away from Nailsworth.”
Dear Mr Russell,
We are pleased to confirm your appointment for the Weekend of Saturday 7th December 2024, you will be officiating;
YEOVIL TOWN V W*YMOUTH IN THE FA TROPHY.
That was an exact(ish) email that dropped into the inbox of Mr Matthew Russell this past week, do you reckon he enjoyed reading it?
The next instalment of what has become a fairly well trodden recent rivalry will see our friends from the coast head to Huish Park, thankfully our official for the day, Mr Russell is a fairly experienced one.
So far this season, he’s been used in League Two, the EFL Trophy and the National League and on the whole, he’s been fairly lenient with his cards – 31 yellows and just two reds in 11 games.
He’s refereed the Glovers nine times, including twice in 1-1 home draws with Altrincham, a 5-0 FA Cup win over Yate Town and a 6-1 defeat to Torquay… although, we can’t really put that one on him.
He’s booked 19 Yeovil players, awarded us two penalties and was even kind enough to send off Alty’s James Jones a couple of years ago (below)
He’ll be assisted by Jack Clench, James Hooper whilst Carl Peters has the job of keeping tabs of Mark Cooper and whoever the other lot decide is in charge this week.
Yeovil Town’s young Glovers were in Gr-eight form on Tuesday night.
The Under 18s hit Welton Rovers for eight to maintain their brilliant start to the Midweek Floodlit League.
A George Geraghty hat-trick was the headline from a positive evening with goals from Leyton Westlake, Joe Crisp, Morgan Alexander and a Blake Watts brace sealed the points in style – with a clean sheet to top it all off.
The result leaves the Glovers top of the table on goal difference with three games in hand, over second placed Clevedon Town.

Not many strikers like Phil Jevons come around in your time supporting a football club. Luckily for Yeovil Town supporters, we had Phil, one of the purest goalscorers ever to pull on the shirt. He played 84 times for the Glovers and scored 42 goals, propelling us to League One and keeping us there too.
On this episode of the Glovers Past Ian and Dave spent a brilliant hour reminiscing with Phil about his time at Yeovil, the players he played with and his many goals. Settle in and enjoy this chat with a proper striker.
