Dear Mr Russell,

We are pleased to confirm your appointment for the Weekend of Saturday 7th December 2024, you will be officiating;

YEOVIL TOWN V W*YMOUTH IN THE FA TROPHY.

That was an exact(ish) email that dropped into the inbox of Mr Matthew Russell this past week, do you reckon he enjoyed reading it?

The next instalment of what has become a fairly well trodden recent rivalry will see our friends from the coast head to Huish Park, thankfully our official for the day, Mr Russell is a fairly experienced one.

So far this season, he’s been used in League Two, the EFL Trophy and the National League and on the whole, he’s been fairly lenient with his cards – 31 yellows and just two reds in 11 games.

He’s refereed the Glovers nine times, including twice in 1-1 home draws with Altrincham, a 5-0 FA Cup win over Yate Town and a 6-1 defeat to Torquay… although, we can’t really put that one on him.

He’s booked 19 Yeovil players, awarded us two penalties and was even kind enough to send off Alty’s James Jones a couple of years ago (below)

He’ll be assisted by Jack Clench, James Hooper whilst Carl Peters has the job of keeping tabs of Mark Cooper and whoever the other lot decide is in charge this week.
