Yeovil Town midfielder Brett McGavin says the mood at the club is “night and day” compared to last season as the Glovers prepare for Saturday’s trip to Wealdstone.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Jack Killah, McGavin reflected on a buoyant atmosphere at Huish Park following a sensational 6-0 thrashing of Boston United. The emphatic victory not only pushed Yeovil into the National League top four but also earned the squad some well-deserved extra time off after hitting a pre agreed points target  by the Manager.

“The gaffer proposed it to us pretty early, and I think you could tell by the way we played Saturday that we were all keen on it,” McGavin revealed. “It’s been a busy schedule, so the lads enjoyed a nice little break, but we’re back on the horse today.”

McGavin, one of the few players remaining from last season, credited the management for radically changing the club’s trajectory and creating a thriving culture.

“It’s massive. All credit goes to [Billy Rowley and Darren Simpson] because the players they’ve brought in and the environment they’ve created has been brilliant,” McGavin said.

“I was out of contract at the end of last season, so when the gaffer came to me and we spoke about a new deal, I was keen on signing because I knew the style of play suited me… I just think they’ve identified my strengths and allowed me to play to them. So, dictating games from deep with my passing and trying to get on the end of things and scoring goals, it just suits me perfectly. I think that’s their biggest strength is they’ve identified players’ strengths, what they’re good at, and allowed them to showcase that every matchday.”

“Since I’ve been at Yeovil, we’ve kind of been down there [towards the bottom of the league], so it’s just so nice to be part of a team that’s up in the top end of the table for once.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s test against Wealdstone, McGavin insisted there would be no complacency: “Wealdstone are definitely a tough team to play against, particularly at their place. We won’t be taking our foot off the gas; we’ll be full pelt and ready to get three points.”

“We know at Huish Park that we should be favourites in every game, but can we stay on track away from home? That’s the question. I believe we can, and I think we will. I think part of our job is making sure that we come across [positively]. How we represent the club is so important, and I’m glad that the fans are picking up on the fact that we’re all happy and we’re all enjoying it, because we are. So, yeah, the whole club seems to be in a good place at the moment, and long may it continue.”

Owen Dean might not be the only Yeovil Town debut this week as we welcome a brand new official to Glovers games.

Callum Jones has never been the man in the middle for a Yeovil fixture. At least, not until 3pm on Saturday.

He has been an assistant, but even then just one time – away at Altrincham in 2022.

Oddly, his only match as referee for Wealdstone was… away at Altrincham in February. Funny how these things work out.

The Stones lost that game, 1-0 with two home players going into the book.

His record this season reads eight games across National League, National League Cup and Premier League 2, 23 yellows, zero reds and just the one penalty awarded.

He’s a very highly thought of official having been given Play-off responsibilities last season in the National League North as well as Premier League U21 International Cup games which included the likes of Brossuia Dortmund’s youth squads.

He’ll be assisted by Harley Hetherington, Ciaran Filder and Brandon Scaife will be looking after the dug outs.

In this episode of The Glovers Past, we dive deep into one of the most memorable and turbulent periods in Yeovil Town’s history. Joined by Mike West from the YTFC Heritage Society and former player and manager Steve Rutter, we reflect on the late 1980s and early 1990s when the club faced immense challenges, nearly folded, and experienced dramatic highs and lows.

Leatherhead FC have confirmed that the FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie with Yeovil Town on Saturday 17th October will be an all ticket affair.

The Isthmian League Premier Division outfit have also said they hope to have ticketing details available soon.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Tanners said: “Ticketing arrangements and purchasing information will be announced in due course across our website and social media channels. We look forward to welcoming a bumper crowd for what promises to be a memorable occasion. Stay tuned for further details.”

The official capacity of their Fetcham Grove home appears to be listed at 2,000 – though some suggestions might be 500 higher than that – and there were 1,140 inside the ground for the third qualifying round tie against Hanworth Villa last weekend.

There is not normally segregation at the ground, however, for a high profile tie like this there may be some kind of segregation which might mean we could expect something in the region of 200-300 tickets.

Yeovil Town Under 19s were on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline in their League opener on Wednesday.

A Leighton Green hat trick was the highlight for the Weston-super-Mare U19s in a comfortable win at Alvington.

Details on the Yeovil side are thin on the ground, including line up and sole scorer, but it represents a first match defeat for Roy O’Brien’s side in the National League Alliance.

Their next scheduled fixture in Division E is a home game against Wimborne Town on October 21st.

Yeovil Town fans heading to Eastleigh on Tuesday 24th November (7:45pm) can now buy their tickets.

Ambulant disabled supporters

Away supporters

There are 11 step free seats at ground level solely for away fans which can be increased or decreased depending on the anticipated number of traveling supporters.

We would offer the step free seats to supporters who are unable to manage stairs or personal assistants attending with wheelchair users. Wheelchair spaces are available on ground level behind the perimeter fence surrounding the pitch.

Supporters with autism or other sensory needs

We very much understand that being prepared and having an understanding of facilities available ahead of matchday can help you prepare ahead of your visit. We have recently invested in some ear defenders that are available to use. Please speak to a steward or come into the club shop before entering the stadium to enquire.

If required, we would be more than happy to welcome you the opportunity to visit the ground on a non-matchday, where you will have the opportunity to be shown around by a member of staff. During this visit, any questions can be asked, and supporters and their families/carers can see where the facilities are and where the most appropriate place to sit/stand would be. Please bear in mind though that this will be dependent on availability (particularly the section of the blue seated ‘main stand’ level with the half way line where most seats have already been reserved).

Toilets

Away supporters

There is a toilet in the away end which is accessible for ambulant disabled fans but it is not wide enough to accomodate a wheelchair. Wheelchair users will need to speak to a steward in order to use the wider accessible toilet at the other end of the Nuffield Health Stand past the home fans. There are also fully accessible toilets in Sherwoods restaurant and in the Hangar bar for away supporters to use before turnstiles open.

Yeovil Town have been drawn against Leatherhead Away in the FA Cup 4th Qualifying round.
Ties will be played the weekend of Saturday 17 October 2026.

The winners of this tie will be in the FA Cup 1st Round Proper and will pick up a cool £9,375 (losers will get £3,125).

Ticket details will follow in due course.

Yeovil Town’s Luke McCormick has broken his silence regarding his elongated absence from the Glovers’ first team.

Posting on social media. McCormick has said that he has ‘never asked or wanted to leave‘ Huish Park.

He says that he has had a tough couple of weeks, which is understandable.

‘…what happens next is out of my control’ suggests that his future is still very much in the air. The midfielder was named Captain for this season, and clocked up six goals in eight games before surprisingly being left out of the win over Solihull on 18th September. He has not appeared in a match day squad since.

Following the Glovers’ 6-0 thrashing of Boston at the weekend, Manager Billy Rowley said:

“I’m never going to stand here and talk badly about any player, but the truth is Luke and I had a bit of a dispute,” Rowley revealed. “My job for this club and the dressing room is to always do what I think is best for the team, and at the moment he won’t be playing for me.”

When pressed on whether the player could feature for the club again in the future, Rowley remained tight-lipped: “We’ll have to see, but at the moment, probably not.”
