Chairman Martin Hellier has revealed that barrister Rhys Rosser and commercial manager Mark Robinson will join the Yeovil Town board.

In an early morning post on his Twitter account on Thursday, the owner said the appointments followed the support of his barrister in his acquisition of a majority shareholding in the club from former owner Scott Priestnall earlier this month.

He also praised the commitment of Robinson who has been at the club since he joined from Dorchester Town in December 2019.

In the post, the chairman said: “Just a bit of late night news that WILL follow through on official channels. I appoint Rhys Rosser, my barrister, as fellow director and a consummate professional. For all my ambitions, thank Rhys, he got it over the line and he will sit next to me as my brother. He made it happen.

“Mark Robinson, who worked seven days a week, from selling sponsorship to cooking chickens for corporate events only to keep our club going, is also, now a Director, and thank them, for making it happen.”

Rhys Rosser is an experienced barrister working at The Chambers of Brian Altman QC and Jim Sturman QC, and was also a contestant in the Junior Apprentice as a 17-year-old back in 2010.

Mark Robinson is a more familiar face to Glovers’ fans having replaced the long-serving Dave Linney at Huish Park more than three years ago. Prior to his arrival, he was General Manager at Dorchester Town having previously worked as an engineer for brewing giant, Carlsberg.

The pair will join the new owner and Stuart Robins, who owns a 20% stake in the club’s trading business, Yeovil Football & Athletic Club Limited, as directors of the club.

We await for the Companies House records for the business to be updated. They presently still show former owner Priestnall as a director. There has been no update on the future of either Robins or Chief Executive Martyn Starnes, although neither feature on the ‘Who’s Who?’ page of the club’s official website which Starnes was previously shown on.

Perhaps when the appointments hit the official channels, there will be more.

Midfielder Matt Worthington and goalkeeper Will Buse have both signed two-year contracts with Yeovil Town.

Worthington, 25, has extended his stay at Huish Park which began in January 2019 when he signed permanently with the Glovers from AFC Bournemouth, whilst Buse spent last season on loan from Bristol City.

The Yeovil-born keeper was released by the Championship side earlier this week. Following the departure of last season’s number one, Grant Smith, Buse was widely expected to make the move to his hometown club.

Manager Mark Cooper has spoken of his delight at the two signings which were announced by the club on Wednesday.

On Worthington, he said: “I’m delighted we have persuaded to get Matt to stay with us, especially as there were numerous clubs after him. I think like the existing core group of players, he feels a duty to try to get us back up. Matt possess great athleticism and experience in the attacking midfield area.”

On the signing of Buse, the boss added: “Will is a local boy and has the club at heart so I’m really pleased to have him on board. He showed towards the end of the season what a competent and aggressive goalkeeper he can be. We are working towards to seeing him develop as our number one goalkeeper.”

Yeovil Town Women FC are holding two open trial sessions in June, on Friday 2nd and Friday 9th between 7pm and 9pm.

The sessions will take place at Huish Park on the 3G pitch and you can register for the sessions here.

Last month the club confirmed Paul Knight was appointed the First Team Manager and Matt Bennett as Reserve Team Manager following the launch of the club on New Years Day.

The Gloverscast is celebrating 10 years since the Wembley win of 2013 and what better way to mark the occasion than with an extra special bonus edition of Glovers Past.

Dan Burn scored the winning goal on that day and was a key part of the backs-to-the-wall performance which saw the Glovers over the line.

We are incredibly grateful for Dan, the media team at Newcastle United and our good mate Jimmer Healey for making this podcast happen, Dan is the first current Premier League footballer to appear on the Gloverscast.

Yeovil will travel to Devon on Saturday 8th July for a friendly against Buckland Athletic.

Tickets will only be available on the day and will cost £8 for adults, £6 for concessions and £2 for under-12s.

Based in Newton Abbot, Buckland Athletic ply their trade in the Western League Premier Division.

 

 

Earlier this week the club confirmed a friendly with Tiverton Town was scheduled for the 16th July.

Well, the season has ended with the ultimate disappointment on the pitch but in the aftermath there is a new dawn at Huish Park. Under new ownership, the cloud of Pr*estnall has gone. Like we did last season, we’ve done another End of Season Survey for the readers of Gloverscast to take part in. Last year 499 (argh!) of you responded. Can you help us get to 500 this time round?

The survey is on Google Forms and is a mix of multiple choice and linear scale (1-7 of course) questions about issues on the pitch, off the pitch and the future. There is also an optional section about the Gloverscast that we’d be very grateful if you’d complete it.

The survey will be open for four weeks and will close on Wednesday 14th June. We’ll go through the responses and share them on the website like we did for last year’s survey.

Yeovil Town have released the season ticket prices for the National League South campaign, with an early-bird discount available until Friday 16th June.

The early bird prices are reduced on last year’s tickets, with an adult terrace ticket costing £20 less and an adult set costing £35 less.

See the season ticket pricing options available on the table below.

The club website states: “Overall this season is a discount on last season’s pricing, with adult season ticket holders saving the equivalent seven free tickets against match day pricing. It’s not just adult supporters who receive a heavy discount, junior supporters will enjoy a total of nine free fixtures in comparison to the match ticket price.”

The club also confirmed that match ticket pricing will also be reduced. Adult tickets purchased prior to midday on match day can will cost £16.00. Young person’s (16-21) cost £10.00 if bought in advance, senior/military tickets will cost £14.00. Tickets purchased after midday on the day of the fixture will be subject to a £2.00 surcharge. 

All youth tickets are available at the same price regardless of when they’re purchased with under-12’s tickets at £3.00 a game and Under 16s £5.00.

New Yeovil Town owner and Chairman Martin Hellier spoke at the club today alongside Mark Cooper and Josh Staunton proclaiming that ‘the age of disparity, disarray and low morale is now over’.

“It’s my greatest honour to sit here before you, flanked by the manager, Mark Cooper the skipper, Josh Staunton, on the cusp of what we consider to be a new era in our beloved football club. We believe that the age of disparity, disarray and low morale is now over. And we now embark on a progressive and ambitious future for Yeovil Town.”

When asked by Three Valleys Radio’s Adi Hopper about the stress of the process, Hellier said: £It was more stressful the closer we got to completion. I’d also say that we were possibly no more sure that we’d got it in one minute before completing than we were maybe three months before completing. But that’s the nature of the beast it seems. It was incredibly stressful and it got more and more stressful – it went right to wire but as I said, even up to that point the way dealings were we couldn’t have been any more sure than we were three months before.

Hellier thanked his barrister, Rhys Rosser and former YTFC Director (and Gloverscast guest) Stephen Allinson for his support during the legal process.

“We knew that we couldn’t  move forward in any capacity at all, unless we removed what was a big looming cloud over this club for several years. The deal had to be done where we obtained the club, the holding company, the buyback rights. It was the only way to move this club forward for the staff, for the fans, for the players, for the manager. So, that what we set out to do and that’s what we achieved,” he said.

The Chairman also pledged that the supporters would be engaged with on a regular basis and would be able to enjoy the football while being looked after.

When asked by Steve Sowden of the Yeovil Press (and Gloverscast guest) if all the deal was completely done, Hellier confirmed the deal was completed on Friday.

“Fans need to be assured that we would not be sat at this table now, saying what we’re saying if that wasn’t the case. I certainly wouldn’t be entering into some wobbly stewards arrangement. You either own a business or you don’t.

“The difference is with the mantra of transparency and honesty that we’ve instilled in this club now is that our door is open you can ask those questions and we will provide those answers.”

Hellier reiterated his desire for community to be heavily involved and stated his belief that under local ownership the club will be able to connect to the community and plans to devise programme of community assistance and support.

Yeovil Town have announced the retained and released list for this season confirming the departure of the best goalkeeper in the league, Grant Smith and a contract offer for Matt Worthington.

The players who remain under contract at Huish Park for the forthcoming National League South season include:

Morgan Williams, Alex Fisher, Josh Staunton, Charlie Cooper, Jordan Maguire-Drew, Will Dawes, Benjani Jr, Malachi Linton, Zanda Siziba, Scott Pollock, Jamie Reckord, Jordan Young, Jordan Stevens, Ollie Haste and Callum Harriott .

Nine players have been released from the club alongside Smith, including Max Hunt, Chiori Johnson, Lawson D’Ath, Ollie Hulbert, Toby Stephens, Max Evans, Charlie Wakefield and Ben Richards-Everton.

Manager Mark Cooper said to the club’s official website: “I would like to personally thank all of the players departing for their efforts during their time at the club. As I said many times last season, I could never doubt the group for their efforts and I wish them all the best for their futures.”

The club also thanked the remaining cohort of loanees who have returned to their parent clubs.

No sooner has one season ended does another one start and Yeovil Town appear to have their first pre-season friendly in the books.

Tiverton Town are due to host the Glovers on Friday 14th of July with a 7:30pm Kick Off.

No ticket details are yet confirmed… but that’ll arrive in due course.

Tiverton hosted young forward Charlie Bateson for a short time as part of a loan deal during the latter stages of the 2022/23 season and will now play host to a warm up game ahead of the next.
