Yeovil Town Women have been handed a home tie over Southampton FC Women in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round.

The first thing to note, this is NOT the Women’s team associated with men’s team currently towards the bottom of the Men’s Premier League, but a different one -not the Saints, but the Sirens.

The Glovers overcame Pucklechurch on penalties at the weekend to reach this round.

Southampton are currently bottom of the Women’s National League – South West Division One having played three and lost three so far this campaign.

The tie is scheduled to take place on Sunday 13th October at Alvington.

Another match day and plenty more good news from the plethora of Yeovil Town loanees out and about.

Firstly, to Weston-super-Mare where the Seagulls drew 1-1 at home to Dorking Wanderers in the National League South.

The Weston goal scored by none other than our man Dylan Morgan. You love to see it.

There was a Man of the Match performance from Will Buse at W*ymouth who took on Worthing at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The Terras also drew 1-1  and the Glovers’ on loan gloveman was the  sponsors’ pick of the bunch.

Defender Jordan Thomas clocked up 90 minutes for Salisbury in their 3-2 win over Chippenham Town.

Down at Plymouth Parkway, they were on the wrong end of a 9 (nine)-3 score line in their game at Hungerford Town in the Southern League Premier Division South.

Under-18s’ full-back Corey Koerner was used from the bench in the final five minutes.

Young goalkeeper Will Howard was between the posts for Cullompton Rangers were 2-1 up, but a man down at half-time, and eventually lost 4-2 to Stoke Gabriel and Torbay Police in the South West Peninsula League. Cullompton still sit top of the table, but have played more games than most of the division.

In the Wessex League Premier, Sherborne Town won 4-0 away at Whitchurch FC. Under-18s forward Josh Haskett was used from the bench.

Over at Street, they lost 2-0 at home to Brixham, with Jacob Shore and Krystian Woods both involved from the bench in the second half. The defeat means the Cobblers lost their unbeaten start to the Western League Premier season and slipped to second place on goal difference.

Plenty of these young Glovers will be in action for the Under-18s on Monday night at Huish Park. They start their Western Counties Floodlit League season against Brislington. Ticket details available – here.

Yeovil Town head to Sutton United for a midweek clash and the Referee assigned to the game is Mr Callum Walchester.

HANG ON A MINUTE!

I know that name… you know that name, that’s right he’s our first occurrence of repeat referee this season.

Mr Walchester was in charge of the Glovers’ first win of the campaign, a 1-0 win over Braintree in August.

If you recall, he dished out four yellow cards on that occasion; Mr Jarvis and Mr Nouble got in a spot on trouble, on your best behaviour, lads!

He also ruled out a Sam Pearson goal after something of a scramble in the second half, but a foul on Aaron Jarvis squandered that one and there was no real arguments from anyone in Green and White.

He does have some new friends with him this time though, he’s got Stuart Butler and Stephen Brown waving flags and Adam Merchant waving subs boards.

There’s Mr Walchester, top right… keeping an eager eye on any shenanigans in the box.

Yeovil Town Manager Mark Cooper has said he is ‘pleased’ that The Glovers are not involved in the new National League Cup.

The new competition, was announced this past week with 16 Premier League Under 23 sides lined up to take on 16 National League sides.

Yeovil confirmed they were not involved in the first edition of this new competition and speaking to BBC Somerset’s Josh Perkins before Yeovil’s game against Oldham (who are in the National League Cup), Cooper said;

“”I think, if you ask most managers, they’ll be dreading it. I think I’d be dreading it, I’m pleased we’re not in it”

The competitions gets underway in mid October, with the National League promising a £1million prize pool made available to it’s member clubs.

Mark Cooper has told BBC Somerset’s Josh Perkins that Josh Sims misses out on the trip to Oldham with some tendonitis in his knee.

The Yeovil Town manager confirmed that Frank Nouble comes in for the former Southampton youngster, but isn’t worried about the problem being a long term one.

He also said that he hopes that Raphael Araoye should be back with the Glovers “soon“, the Bristol City loanee has been absent since limping off in the win over Boston United.

Striker Ciaran McGuckin, signed on loan from Rotherham is on the bench and Cooper said he was looking forward to the “aggressive” striker potentially making his debut from the sub’s bench.

Yeovil Town have been given an away tie at Helston Athletic in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup.

The Under 18s – who begin their league campaign at Huish Park this Monday – have been drawn away to Helston who got through the first round this past week.

The game will be played Week Commencing 30th September and will kick off at 7pm. There is no Extra Time or replays at this stage, draws at 90 minutes will lead straight to spot kicks to decide the tie.

Yeovil Town have not been included in the new National League Premier League Cup (Think EFL Trophy – but if you ordered it from Wish.com)

The National League have today announced a new cup competition that absolutely no-one asked for, which, along with the FA Trophy, FA Cup and County Cups will squeeze into an already busy campaign, getting underway in mid-October.

Yeovil, however, are not on the list of teams taking part as we… dunno, are not worthy!? Who knows!?

Anyway, here’s the spiel from the National League.

The Premier League and the National League have today launched a new competition for first teams of National League clubs and Premier League 2 sides.

The National League Cup is designed to give young players from Premier League and EFL clubs
additional opportunities to test themselves against senior opposition, with the aim of further aiding elite player development.

The competition, which begins in October, also offers an opportunity for National League clubs to play regular matches against the best U21 teams in England at their own stadia, with this additional exposure intended to improve the playing and spectator experience. National League clubs will also keep all gate receipts from these fixtures.

What format will the competition take?

The National League Cup is a 32-team midweek competition, comprising 16 under-21 teams
participating in Premier League 2, and 16 first teams from clubs participating in the National League.

The competition will consist of a group stage (four groups of eight), with the two best-placed teams in each group advancing to a knock-out stage to determine the winner.

The first round of the competition includes fixtures between Oldham Athletic and Stoke City PL2 and FC Halifax Town and Newcastle United PL2 while Dagenham & Redbridge host Tottenham Hotspur PL2.

Tony Scholes, Chief Football Officer at the Premier League said: “We’re excited to launch this new competition in partnership with the National League.

“The competition will provide additional opportunities for young players in the under 17-21 age groups to gain valuable experience of playing against First Team opposition, something many of our current Premier League stars have experienced in their development.

“We’re pleased to be able to support in the operation of the competition and look forward to seeing the wider benefits it will bring to National League clubs.”

National League general manager Mark Ives.

Mark Ives, General Manager at the National League said: “This new competition presents another exciting chapter in our partnership with the Premier League.

“Our sides will have a great opportunity to compete against some of the best academy players in the country. We’re excited to be working closer with the Premier League on the operational side of the new competition and look forward to continuing our valued partnership further.”

Further information

The combined prize fund for the competition is £1million, provided by the Premier League. Prize money will be distributed only to National League clubs.

The competition becomes a component of the Elite Player Performance Plan, which has seen over £2billion of investment into Premier League and EFL academies over the last decade, with the aim of producing more and better homegrown players.
