April 2025

Despite taking the lead, Yeovil were defeated by Sutton United in their final home game of the season, losing 2-1. Let’s see what else went on across the division on a busy Saturday!

We begin in London, where Dagenham & Redbridge stuffed 6 past playoff hunters Altrincham to take a giant lead towards safety; Josh Rees scored a hat trick, and former Glover Dion Pereira got involved in the fun, leaving the Daggers outside the drop zone heading into the final day. Tamworth decided to make their last home game of the season a dramatic one, as they once found themselves 3-1 down at home to relegated AFC Fylde – a goal just before the break, and two more in the second half, one of which was the 91st minute winner, handed them the three points in a 4-3 thriller.

Rochdale confirmed their spot in the post-season action with a thumping 5-1 win at home to Hartlepool United, Devante Rodney adding a double to his recent impressive form, making it 7 goals in his last 5 games. Back in London, the title race was finally ended, as Barnet confirmed their place in the EFL with a 4-0 win over Aldershot Town, confirming York City‘s place in the playoffs despite their 2-0 win over Solihull Moors. In the lunchtime kickoff, Woking twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Eastleigh, another former Glover got on the scoresheet in the shape of Jamie Andrews.

Southend United dropped Wealdstone into the relegation zone with a convincing 3-0 win at home, moving themselves into the playoff spots in the process; their final day fixture is against the side they replaced in the top 7, Gateshead – they lost 2-1 away at Boston United as the hosts completed their great escape. Maidenhead United ensured their battle against relegation would go on until the final day, as they won 2-0 away at relegated Ebbsfleet United. Finally, there were 1-0 wins for FC Halifax Town and Forest Green Rovers, defeating Braintree Town and Oldham Athletic respectively.

Glovers thump W*ymouth in Huish Park sunshine

Yeovil Town Women won their penultimate league match of the season in emphatic style, beating rivals W*ymouth by seven goals to one at Huish Park. After no football for over a month, Paul Knight’s side hit seven past a tame Terras outfit, to leapfrog Weston-super-Mare into third in the Regen Arable Division One South.

The Glovers did not begin the derby as they meant to go on, as after a mere five minutes W*ymouth took the lead courtesy of Ellie Porter.

Despite the early setback Yeovil responded almost immediately, as Zoe Ball equalised in the seventh minute. Zara Hunt saw her effort blocked before unselfishly playing the ball across for Ball who finished with ease.

After a period of prolonged early pressure, the Glovers were rewarded via Terri Will, who headed in from a corner to give the hosts the lead.

An eventful opening half an hour was topped off with Yeovil extending their lead to 3-1, as Jodie Cornwall’s classy finish to the left of the W*ymouth GK provided daylight.

Following a dominant first half display, Yeovil went in at the break 3-1 up.
The opening stages of the second period mirrored the action-packed nature of the first, as Yeovil went 6-1 up within thirteen minutes.
In the 52nd minute, Mollie Childs’ audacious chip gave Yeovil four, after clever play from Hunt once again.

Four minutes later, Yeovil’s penalty specialist and goalkeeper Emily Hall made no mistake from the spot following a rash W*ymouth challenge in the penalty area.

Moments later Cornwall earned her second of the afternoon, as she finished following a Yeovil free-kick.
The Glovers’ dominant display on the Huish Park turf continued throughout the half, as youngster Ceyda Fordrey struck the woodwork on the hour mark.

Jodie Cornwall’s perfect afternoon in front of goal was complete in the 83 rd minute, as her impressive finish saw her net a dream hat-trick in the derby.

The match finished 7-1, as Yeovil Town Women put on an almighty show for the 298 supporters at Huish Park.
Yeovil Town Women return to action for the final time this season as they host Helston on Sunday 4 th May 14:00 KO at Alvington.

Yeovil Town: Hall, Childs, Brazell, Vernon, Miles, Hunt, Cornwall, Wensley, Perham, Will,
Ball.
Subs: Chant, Bishop, Spearing, Fordrey, Hughes.

Thornicroft, Screen.
Subs: Ciftlik, Goodhew, Osborne, Smith, March.

A short, sharp loan watch this weekend as most of the regional football came to a conclusion last week.

We start with Will Buse who sat on the bench as W*ymouth concluded their season with a 6-1 defeat to Chelmsford, Mal Linton actually gave the hosts the lead, but the game soon turned around.

Buse played 35 games for the Claret and Blues conceding 53 goals and keeping four clean sheets.

He also played eight games for Weston-super-Mare at the start of the campaign.

According to Transfermarkt, his contract at Huish Park is up this summer, we would be stunned if he wasn’t announced as being on the Glovers’ released list.

In total, he has played just eight times for Yeovil, across a loan and permanent spell.

Right, then, to Torquay.

The Gulls finished off the regular National League South season in style, a 4-1 win over Hemel Hempstead, it wasn’t enough to topple Truro for the title though.

A small margin of a two-goal goal difference all that separates the sides after 46 games.

Jordan Thomas started the game, but was replaced shortly after the hour as the Gulls searched for goals.

A second placed finish means a home play-off semi final against either Dorking Wanderers or Boreham Wood who meet in midweek.

All the best for the play-offs Jordan.

So far, this season, Thomas has 26 Torquay appearances – one goal in there – eight games for Salisbury – and another goal in there too – on top of his five games for the Glovers, starting just once, the 3-1 away defeat to Gateshead.

Behind the microphone this time, Tom Bailey is back with his Five Conclusions from Yeovil’s game against Sutton United.

Not the most enthralling game… it wasn’t a classic, was it? Yeovil were ok, Sutton were a bit better than ok, it was exactly what it was on the tin – two mid-table sides slugging it out, making sloppy mistakes and missing good chances. Sutton played it to perfection, two really well taken goals (the first admittedly was assisted by some shoddy defending, but still a solid header) were simply the difference in an otherwise average, but competitive encounter.

Harry Kite is some player. If we can somehow convince Harry Kite to stay with us next season, I think we’ll already be off to a great start, cos this guy is pretty good at this football malarkey! He controlled the midfield expertly, linking the defence to the attack effortlessly, and his vision is unrivalled in this team with Sonny Blu a very close second! A midfield of Kite alongside McGavin next season makes me excited to think of what may come next season!

The initiatives worked again! Kids for a Quid was in place once again today, and it’s continued to prove its worth – 3,566 were in attendance today, and since the K.F.A.Q. was put in place, attendances have risen above the season average, showing how important something like this is to a family-based, community driven club! The atmosphere was class once again, it’s just a shame the Thatchers Terrace didn’t get one more goal to enjoy, despite the Glovers’ best efforts. Maybe something for the new owners to consider putting in place more frequently…

Returns gave a flash of what could’ve been. We didn’t expect to see Jake Wannell or Aaron Jarvis again this season; these were the words of none other than Mark Cooper post-Eastleigh, however we got a glimpse of both this afternoon! While both clearly lacking match sharpness, their quality was starting to shine through, Jarvis demonstrating his excellent hold-up play, and Wannell continuing to demonstrate his exceptional passing and footwork. It makes you wonder what could’ve been this season, but hopefully a summer of rest and a full pre-season will give these boys the best preparation for a successful 2025/26 season!

Home season is done. And there have been plenty of highs and lows to take in – the Fylde and Oldham wins… the W*ymouth and Boston results, Huish Park has had its fair share of action this season. 7 wins, 7 draws and 9 losses in the league, while not a great record, is far from the worst – if we can re-capture that fortress feeling from the title season, and carry that into next season, the sky could well be the limit for this club. God I love Yeovil… onwards to Aldershot!

Mark Cooper was disappointed with Yeovil’s 2-1 loss to Sutton United this afternoon, saying the result gave him “clarity”.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Josh Perkins, the Yeovil boss said: “We’re obviously disappointed with the result. I thought we were in a good position to win it. Obviously 1-0 at half time. And then we conceded two goals. I think they had two efforts on target, and they both went.

“They had bits and pieces across the box, but I can’t remember, Aidan making any saves. So they have two. A header from 18 yards, and a shot from 25 yards. So yeah, we’re disappointed because we wanted to finish at home on a high. Just gives me a bit of clarity of where where we need to be.”

“It’s a game we shouldn’t lose, in my opinion, and we’ve conceded two speculative efforts and lost the game.”

Cooper added that Brett McGavin was back in training and could make an appearance on the final day at Aldershot.

Yeovil Town fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sutton United at the final match at Huish Park this season.

Here’s Ian’s view from under the H…

First half

The early stages of the game saw both sides feeling each other out with very little in the way of action.

In the 13th minute the game came alive with Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Ciaran McGuckin both having shots at goal. It could have easily been 1-0.

Ten minutes later, Aidan Stone had to tip a wayward Boateng cross over his bar. The left footed cross was destined for the goal though.

The Glovers broke forward from a Sutton free kick in the 28th minute and Lo-Everton drew a good save from Sims in the Sutton goal.

Two minutes later Sims was caught in no mans land as Ciaran McGUCKIN latched onto Harvey Greenslade’s pass and lobbed the ball over the keeper to put the Glovers ahead. 1-0

On the stroke of half time Charlie Cooper was the width of a goalpost away from doubling Yeovil’s lead. His right footed effort from distance curved just a bit too much and hit the Sutton post.

Half time: Yeovil Town 1 Sutton United 0

Second half

Sutton got back in level terms 5 minutes into the 2nd half. A Lewis Simper free kick was headed in by half time substitute Siju ODELUSI. 1-1.

Lo-Everton was a whisker away from putting Yeovil back in front moments later, poking McGuckin’s cross narrowly wide.

Lewis SIMPER turned goalscorer on the hour Mark, rifling in a left-footed shot from outside of the box having been given all the space in the world. 1-2

Mark Cooper made a triple sub bringing on Jake Wannell, Josh Sims and the returning Aaron Jarvis – who got a very loud reception from the Huish Park crowd.

Morgan Williams made an unbelievable tackle chasing back after Alex Whittle lost the ball on the halfway line, preventing a third Sutton goal.

The visitors should have got their third moments later but Will Davies’ effort was straight at Stone.

Williams was nearly the hero at the other end of the pitch with a headed effort that was too comfortable Sims.

Yeovil huffed and puffed and Williams stung the gloves of Sims late on, but the Glovers couldn’t find an equaliser, finishing off the season at Huish Park with defeat.

Full time: Yeovil Town 1 Sutton United 2

Defender Dom Bernard, midfielder Charlie Cooper, and striker Ciaran McGuckin all return to the line-up with Marcel Lavinier and Kyrell Wilson dropping to the substitutes’ bench having started the 1-0 defeat at Eastleigh on Easter Monday.

Otis Khan is unavailable following his red card five days ago which effectively ended his season-long loan spell from Oldham Athletic with just two games of the National League Premier Division season remaining.

But the real team news comes on the substitutes’ bench where defender Jake Wannell returns having been missing from the squad for the past two games, and striker Aaron Jarvis, who has not featured since injuring his hamstring in January, also on the bench.
