Yeovil Town’s Somerset Men’s Premier Cup campaign gets underway against Weston-super-Mare on Wednesday 19th November.

The game at Huish Park will kick off at 7:30pm.

Tickets are not yet available, so instead, here’s a picture of Morgan Williams scoring a late winner against Weston-super-Mare the last time they came to Huish Park for a competitive game.

Yeovil Town Under-18s got their Western Counties Floodlit League season underway with a 3-1 win at Clevedon Town on Monday night.

The young Glovers took an early lead when Morgan Alexander put them ahead after just three minutes before Joe Crisp doubled their advantage two minutes before half-time.

Crisp added his second and Yeovil’s third from the penalty spot following a foul on George Geraghty with 68 minutes on the clock before the home side pull a consolation goal back two minutes from the end.

The result looks even more impressive when you consider Clevedon remain top of the Premier Division table even after the defeat. However, the amount of games played by teams in the division differs wildly with this being Yeovil’s first match and their opponents on Monday having now played six times.

Jordan Young has joined National League South side Torquay United for an undisclosed fee, both clubs have confirmed tonight.

The attacker has left Huish Park after finding minutes on the pitch hard to come by this season in a widely-anticipated move to Devon following comments by manager Mark Cooper after the weekend’s 3-1 home win over Maidenhead United on Saturday.

He told BBC Somerset reporter Ian Randall: “We have had an offer for Jordan, so we are discussing that and we will take some time over the weekend to consider that. All I will say is we have to keep evolving we have to keep making the squad better and make sure everyone who comes here is desperate to play for us and all I will say is trust what we are doing.

In its statement about the departure on Monday, the club said: “The club extends its gratitude to Jordan for his efforts and contributions while at Yeovil Town and wishes him every success in the future.

Torquay manager and former-Glovers’ midfielder Paul Wotton said: “Jordan is a player who excelled for Yeovil last season in the National League South, and he’s been very, very good this season for Yeovil in the National League. He’s a player who brings creativity, pace and quality to the squad.

The 25-year old joined from Chippenham Town in the 2022/23 season and despite being relegated with the Glovers was instrumental in our return to the National League Premier at the first time of asking.

Young leaves as a National League South champion and for that, we are forever grateful.

All the best at Torquay, Jordan, thanks for sharing that wand of a left foot with us.

Both Aaron Jarvis and Dom Bernard are going to miss the game against Southend United after picking up their fifth yellow cards of the season.

The FA’s ‘Naughty Portal’ has updated to show both the front man and central defender have an unexpected Saturday off.

Jarvis was cautioned on 28 minutes whilst Bernard had his name taken just five minutes before the end of the clash against Maidenhead.

Officially, the fifth bookings have been listed as “Persistent Infringement” for Jarvis and “Dissent” for Bernard.

With Morgan Williams also suspended for the game after his sending off against Tamworth it could leave the Glovers light on numbers at the back particularly.

Both will be available again for the home game against Halifax Town on November 16th.

Both Charlie Cooper and Frank Nouble are also walking 4-booking tight ropes, the cut off for a single game ban after five yellow cards is three league games away.

It’s six unbeaten now for the Glovers, as they triumphed in a 3-1 win over Maidenhead United to lift them into the National League playoffs! Let’s see how the rest of the league got on, in an action packed day…

We begin with the televised DAZN match, where a first half Regan Linney hat trick helped Altrincham on their way to a 5-0 win away to AFC Fylde, the defeat dropping the hosts to within two points of the drop. Two teams also involved at the bottom played out a dramatic 2-2 draw, as Wealdstone sacrificed their lead with goals in the 86th and 91st minutes from Ebbsfleet United. There was more late drama in Yorkshire, as FC Halifax Town squandered their lead thanks to a 91st minute equaliser and 96th minute winner for York City to go top of the league.

Two teams also near the top of the league faced off in North London, as Barnet defeated Rochdale in a 2-1 win to stay in touch with the leading pack, while a Mani Dieseruvwe double gave Hartlepool United a 2-0 win over Aldershot Town. Two goals within the first 20 minutes handed Yeovil’s next opponents Southend United a 2-0 win over Yeovil’s midweek hosts Tamworth to boost themselves towards the top half of the table.

Further late action came at the Silverlake Stadium, as 10-man Eastleigh needed a 95th minute penalty to ensure Boston United‘s wait for a first league win since early September continues. 10-man Forest Green Rovers played out a 1-1 draw with Woking, a late Owen Oseni goal gave Gateshead a 1-0 win over Solihull Moors, an early Mike Fondop goal gave 10-man Oldham Athletic a 1-0 win over 10-men Dagenham & Redbridge, and finally, Will Davies scored against one of his former clubs as Sutton United defeated Braintree Town.

A solid performance saw Yeovil run out 3-1 winners against Maidenhead United at Huish Park. I was in the Press Box, and here are my five conclusions from a lovely afternoon in the sunshine.

Aaron Jarvis spins the defender. 📷 Gary Brown

That was a proper strikers’ performance. Aaron Jarvis has been working hard since the first minute of the season. He’s spent much if his time in green and white wrestling with his opposing defenders, bringing his teammates into the game and trying to on the end of things. The Maidenhead game had all of that and the chances and goals on top of it. His first was all about his quick feet and composure inside the box. His second was anticipation, quick thinking and being in the right place at the right time. He was unfortunate to not get a hat trick, but after all the hard work and battling up front, Yeovil’s #9 has hit some form.

The McGavin – Cooper axis is working. We’ve been fairly spoiled for combinations in centre midfield over the past season and a half, but there’s something about McCooper that just works. Cooper is playing as well as he ever has in a Yeovil Town shirt, in my opinion. He’s controlling the tempo nicely and his recent performance deserved a goal – and what a great goal it was. McGavin has been a superb acquisition, and the kind of midfielder we’ve not had for a while. He’s always looking forward, plays the progressive passes rather than the sideways ones when he can and is calm and composed on the ball. The two’s contrasting styles complement one another and I thought they were dominant against Maidenhead.

Kofi Shaw strides forwards with the ball. 📷 Gary Brown

We have a talent in Kofi Shaw. 17. He’s 17! What a confident, fearless player Shaw is. He was pulling strings in the forward areas, getting stuck into battles and showed off some of his trickery. His back heel for Wannell’s overlap that led to Jarvis’s second was the kind of synchronisation you expect from a player who’s been at the club for months, not days. He’s clearly an intelligent player and we know he is thought very highly of at Bristol Rovers and, based on his performance yesterday, has all the tools in his toolbox. He’s young, though, and with us to learn and get accustomed to men’s football so it might not be like that every week, and that’s okay.

We looked sound defensively again. There’s been very few times this season where we’ve looked stretched or overrun defensively and, despite the absentees yesterday we looked assured, controlled and dominant again. Finn Cousin-Dawson, who’s been the ‘break glass in an emergency’ defender played that stopper role well and with Wannell and Bernard (who gets better every week) they took control of the passing out from the back. When an influential player like Morgan Williams is missing its okay to be concerned what the impact will be, but that defensive unit looked as solid as ever.

Charlie Cooper celebrates his goal vs Maidenhead

Up to 7th – don’t say the P word. At Gloverscast we’re never far off being accused of being too negative, or too positive ironically, which means we’re probably somewhere in the middle. But, pick your poison here. The recent performances, and the clicking in the final third has seen us bag 6 goals in our last 3 matches. Mark Cooper wanted a reaction from his team after the FA Cup defeat at Chesham and he’s had it. As we saw last season, momentum counts for a lot in football and the performances have been steadily improving. If we can keep up the pace with those around us, we’ll land well above mid-table. The next three are Southend (A), Halifax (H)  and York (A), which on paper are trickier than the last three, but I don’t go into any games worrying about what the opposition have up their sleeve anymore, because when we’re on song, I fancy our chances.

Let’s take a look at how the Glovers out on loan got on out and about on Saturday.

Firstly, ‘keeper Will Buse put in a solid display for W*ymouth in their 1-1 draw with high flying Farnborough in the National League South.

Next, we have YTFC goalscorer to tell you about, Jordan Thomas bagged for Salisbury in their game away at Chelmsford. It looked like it might have been enough to secure a point, but a 94th minute winner for the Clarets gained them all three points.

Into the regional leagues now and there was no Corey Koerner for Plymouth Parkway again, he was working with the English Colleges Football Association this week. His dual registration deal means he can come and go fairly freely and might be heading out on loan again sooner rather than later.

Over at Sherborne Town, Josh Haskett was on the bench for the Zebras in their impressive win over Baffins Milton Rovers.

It was a double-game week for Jacob Shore at Tavistock, he came off the bench during the midweek win over Shaftesbury and started (albeit at right back) in their FA Trophy game against Winchester.

Sol Padmore has moved from Street to Bridport and was part of their match day squad.

A number of other Young YTFC players have moved on from the club in recent week; Krystian Woods, Max Dyer and ‘keeper Will Howard are seeking pastures new – we wish them all well in their new adventures.

The Under 18s get their league campaign under way (finally) on Monday with a game against Clevedon Town U18s
