Under 18s (Page 8)

Three youth sides representing the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust are in Junior Premier League action this weekend.

The under-11s, under-13s and under-15s sides all have fixtures with the under-12s, under-14s and under-16s sides all sit out this weekend.

Yeovil Town Under-18s are also without a fixture and have instead arranged a friendly against AFC Bournemouth Academy.

The young Glovers are presently fourth in the South West Counties Under-18s League after five matches.

Benjani Junior and Finlay Skiverton were both on target as Yeovil Town Under-18s picked up a 2-1 win over South West Counties Youth League leaders Mangotsfield United on Saturday.

The pair put the Glovers 2-0 up at the Alvington Playing Fields before the visitors scored a late consolation goal.

The victory means the young Glovers have won four and lost two of their opening six matches.

It was a disappointing weekend results-wise for the youth sides representing Yeovil Town with only the Under-13s picking up a victory.

Playing their second fixture in 48 hours following an FA Youth Cup exit on Thursday night, the Under-18s slipped to a 4-0 defeat at Swindon Supermarine in the South West Counties Youth League.

A double from Tadhg O’Callaghan and further goals from Benjamin Cleary and substitute Marc Mikuzi gave the home side a comfortable victory.

In the Junior Premier League, the Under-13s representing the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust won their match against the Wiltshire Academy.

However, there were defeats for the Trust’s Under-12s, Under-15s and Under-16s teams.

The five age group teams representing the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust are back in Junior Premier League action this week.

The Trust’s Under-12s, Under-13s, Under-14s, Under-15s and Under-16s will all play on Saturday.

Yeovil Town Under-18s will be looking to put the disappointment of going out of the FA Youth Cup on Thursday night behind them when they travel to Swindon Supermarine.

That fixture gets underway at 10.30am in the South West Youth Counties League.

Yeovil Town Under-18s’ hopes of FA Youth Cup success ended with a 3-1 defeat at Cheltenham Saracens in the second qualifying round on Thursday night.

The home side went ahead through a 12th minute penalty before Daniel Onakoya doubled the advantage three minutes after the break.

Midfielder Ollie Haste pulled a goal back for Yeovil four minutes later when his free-kick was deflected on, before Cheltenham added a third in the final minute.

The home side’s under-18s, who play in the Gloucestershire Floodlit League, will travel to either Poole Town or Gosport B in the next round.

Yeovil Town Under-18s picked up an early Saturday morning win in the The Gary Else Memorial League Cup with a 2-1 victory over their Bath City counterparts at Alvington.

The young Glovers, who were well represented in the first team in the Somerset Premier Cup in midweek, benefitted from two first half goals from Mason Alden.

Yeovil Town Under-18s are in cup action this weekend facing their counterparts at Bath City in the Gary Else Memorial League Cup.

The young Glovers will have home advantage at the Alvington Playing Fields, Yeovil with a 10.30am kick-off on Saturday.

The trophy is the cup competition for the South West Counties League and is named after a coach from the Swindon area who died in 2012.

The age group sides of the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust  from the Under-11s through to the Under-15s are all in Junior Premier League action this weekend.

Darren Sarll praised the club’s youth team players for their performances in Yeovil Town‘s 4-1 win over Bridgwater United in the Somerset Premier Cup first round on Wednesday night.

The Glovers’ boss singled out defender Jake Graziano, midfielder Ollie Haste and strike Finlay Skiverton who all featured in a strong side which included a number of first-team players.

The trio are all regulars in the club’s Under-18s side which works in partnership with Yeovil College delivering an Elite Player Development Programme.

Yeovil Town manager Darren Sarll.

Sarll said: “I was really pleased with the boys who came out of the college programme.

“Ollie Haste I thought was magnificent, talk about standing up to the opportunity.
In terms of the experience I was able to give him, he will remember that for the rest of his life and the same with young Jake Graziano, they coped brilliantly.

“Obviously Fin came on and scored (the game’s fourth goal) and as soon as the game was out of sight I wanted to give as many of them an opportunity.”

The boss described Skiverton’s goal as “a wonderful moment” for his father, assistant manager and club legend, Terry, but insisted the young striker was in the side on merit alone.

He said: “I can tell everyone now that no-one gets a game because of their surname, they get a game because they can help us win and (Finlay) certainly helped us do that.

I think he had the two best chances of the game in the last 15 minutes and you have to credit someone for knowing how to get there.

“I was not too impressed with how he knows where to be out of possession but for a centre forward that needs to be the last detail rather than the first.”

There was also some valuable game time for first-team squad members including defender Morgan Williams, midfielder Matt Worthington, who is available after a three-match ban for his red card against King’s Lynn on the opening day, and Alex Bradley who has been out through illness.

Sarll said: “I thought it was important that we got some minutes in to some legs. Morgan (Williams) has played one 90 minute game in eight months, I wanted to get Max (Hunt) back out there.

“Because of how small the squad is, the opportunity to practice in training is reduced because we do not have the numbers, so I thought that was a better environment for Max to carry on practicing.

“Max Evans deserved a game, Adi (Yussuf), Sonny (Blu Lo-Everton) both needed minutes, as did (Matt) Worthington after his suspension and (Alex) Bradley after missing out through illness.

“So it was enjoyable to see what they can contribute and what they could contribute on Saturday and after that.”

A brace from Benjani Junior helped Yeovil Town’s Under-18s side to a 6-1 win at Wimborne Town today.

The son of the former Manchester City and Portsmouth striker scored two with Finlay Skiverton, the son of Glovers’ assistant manager, Terry, Ollie Haste, Jake Graziano and “Borges” also on target.

The win moves the young Glovers up to fourth place in the South West Counties League after three matches.

It is another busy weekend for the youth sides representing Yeovil Town this weekend.

For the club’s Under-18s, it is a trip to face Wimborne Town’s youth side in the South West Counties League at Blandford School (10.30am kick-off) on Saturday morning.

Five of the youth sides run by the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust are also in action in the Junior Premier League with the under-12s and under-16s on the road at Torquay United and FC Wiltshire respectively.

The under-13s, under-14s and under-15s sides all play at home. Good luck to all those turning out in green and white this weekend.
