The sons of two footballing legends were on target for Yeovil Town’s Under-18s who opened their South West Counties Youth League campaign with an 8-0 win on Saturday.

Finlay Skiverton, the son of Glovers’ assistant Terry, and Benjani Junior, the son of former Manchester City striker Benjani, were on target in the win at New College Swindon (Academy) Under-18s, who had a player sent-off in the game.

Joshua John netted a hat-trick with Darren McAlastair scoring twice to complete an emphatic scoreline.

Ollie Haste who has appeared on the substitutes’ bench for the first-team during pre-season was in the line-up.

Yeovil Town Under-18s: William Armstrong, Callum Deemer, Max Dyer, Jake Graziano, Ollie Haste, Joshua John, Jonny Lye, Darren McAlastair, Benjani Junior, Callum Smalley, Finlay Skiverton.

Substitutes: Mason Aiden, Robert Holland, Mason Hunter, Aidan Skiverton, Joshua Sutton.

Yeovil Town Under-18s will kick off their South West Counties Under-18s season with a trip to New College Swindon (Academy) Under-18s.

The young Glovers will make the trip on September 4 with their first home game the following weekend against the under-18s of Bridgwater United.

In the other two fixtures published on the league’s website, Yeovil Town then travel to Wimborne Town Under-18s on September 18, followed by a home fixture against Bath City Under-18s on September 25.

The team have made the switch from the South West Premier Academy Under-18s division where they played last season.

Yeovil Town Under-18s earned a 1-1 draw against their Dorchester Town counterparts at Avenue Stadium.

A goal from Finlay Skiverton, the 17-year-old son of Glovers’ legend, Terry, put the visitors ahead in the pre-season friendly.

In fact, it was a proud moment for the Skiverton family with another of his son’s, 15-year-old Aidan, also turning out for Yeovil.

A late equaliser from the hosts saw the game finish a draw.

The Under-18s lost at Paulton Rovers in their opening pre-season friendly and travel to Darren Way’s Plymouth Argyle Under-18s in their next match on Saturday.

Pre-season is underway for both the senior and junior sidest at Huish Park and the Yeovil Under 18s lost 2-1 to Paulton Rovers in their first fixture of the new campaign.

No details were given regardling team line ups, but the score ended up 2-1 to Paulton with the Glovers’ only goal coming from Korey Andrew.

Andrew is a new name to keep an eye on, the Under18s would likely have been without Ollie Haste who was with the first team for the game against Weston super-Mare.

Yeovil Town Under 18s are starting to ramp up preparations ahead of the new season.

It was confirmed recently that the Young Glovers are entering a new division this season and will take on new opponents in the South West Counties league.

Training will commence in “early August” and two friendly fixtures have now been confirmed.

Yeovil Town’s Under 18s will have a new division of opponents next season having made the switch to the South West Premier Academy Under 18s division.

Previously, they have faced sides the junior sides from the Football League including Exeter, Bristol Rovers and Newport but this season will be up against the likes of Torquay, Bath City and last year’s champions Mangotsfield Town.

Futhermore, it has been confirmed that Mark Challen of M1 Coaching will be the manager for the Under 18s this season,
