Yeovil Town’s Ollie Haste has been called up to the England College’s Men’s team following a successful trial.

Haste, who was on the bench for the Glovers’ first team in the win over Bromley, has made Darren Sarll’s squads on a couple of occasions and has been played from the start in both Somerset Premier Cup games so far this season.

The youngster attends Yeovil College as well as playing as part of the Glovers’ Under 18s, he had to get through two stages of trials to get selected where he will join players from all over the country.

Head Coach, Darin Killpartrick said: “The trial phase is always a difficult and subjective process. The standard this year was very balanced and there were hardly any differences in players’ abilities, making the process incredibly difficult and challenging.”

The England College team currently has one fixture listed, with more expected to be announced, should Ollie be selected, this does fall on what is currently an empty midweek for the Glovers, but it would be filled should there be a need for a replay following the FA Cup clash with Stevenage.

Darren Sarll praised the club’s youth team players for their performances in Yeovil Town‘s 4-1 win over Bridgwater United in the Somerset Premier Cup first round on Wednesday night.

The Glovers’ boss singled out defender Jake Graziano, midfielder Ollie Haste and strike Finlay Skiverton who all featured in a strong side which included a number of first-team players.

The trio are all regulars in the club’s Under-18s side which works in partnership with Yeovil College delivering an Elite Player Development Programme.

Sarll said: “I was really pleased with the boys who came out of the college programme.

“Ollie Haste I thought was magnificent, talk about standing up to the opportunity.
In terms of the experience I was able to give him, he will remember that for the rest of his life and the same with young Jake Graziano, they coped brilliantly.

“Obviously Fin came on and scored (the game’s fourth goal) and as soon as the game was out of sight I wanted to give as many of them an opportunity.”

The boss described Skiverton’s goal as “a wonderful moment” for his father, assistant manager and club legend, Terry, but insisted the young striker was in the side on merit alone.

He said: “I can tell everyone now that no-one gets a game because of their surname, they get a game because they can help us win and (Finlay) certainly helped us do that.

“I think he had the two best chances of the game in the last 15 minutes and you have to credit someone for knowing how to get there.

“I was not too impressed with how he knows where to be out of possession but for a centre forward that needs to be the last detail rather than the first.”

There was also some valuable game time for first-team squad members including defender Morgan Williams, midfielder Matt Worthington, who is available after a three-match ban for his red card against King’s Lynn on the opening day, and Alex Bradley who has been out through illness.

Sarll said: “I thought it was important that we got some minutes in to some legs. Morgan (Williams) has played one 90 minute game in eight months, I wanted to get Max (Hunt) back out there.

“Because of how small the squad is, the opportunity to practice in training is reduced because we do not have the numbers, so I thought that was a better environment for Max to carry on practicing.

“Max Evans deserved a game, Adi (Yussuf), Sonny (Blu Lo-Everton) both needed minutes, as did (Matt) Worthington after his suspension and (Alex) Bradley after missing out through illness.

“So it was enjoyable to see what they can contribute and what they could contribute on Saturday and after that.”

Pre-season is underway for both the senior and junior sidest at Huish Park and the Yeovil Under 18s lost 2-1 to Paulton Rovers in their first fixture of the new campaign.

No details were given regardling team line ups, but the score ended up 2-1 to Paulton with the Glovers’ only goal coming from Korey Andrew.

Andrew is a new name to keep an eye on, the Under18s would likely have been without Ollie Haste who was with the first team for the game against Weston super-Mare.

Glovers Trialist vs Taunton

Yeovil Town are back in pre-season action this Tuesday facing local side Taunton Town.

The Glovers are lining up in a slightly different formation than the one used againt Forest Green Rovers at the weekend – employing a 4-4-1-1 set up with Lewis Simper starting in the role just behind Reuben Reid the sole front man.

There’s a little rotation to the side as other members of the side build up match fitness and notably, just one trialist – a new one as well.

Early reports are that former Wolves and Bradford winger Zeli Ismail is the number 16 hoping to impress – starting the game on the wide left hand side of a midfield four – although this has yet to be confirmed (picture attached – what do you think?)

The full side is below – none of the other trialists we have seen in the other friendlies have been listed as in the squad, suggesting Deshane Dalling, Harlain Mbayo and Jack Bodenham have not been given any futher opportunities to impress.

One new name on the bench is that of attacking midfielder Ollie Haste, a Glovers academy product who has signed a scholarship from Bideford Blues Youth Side as a junior.

A name that some Glovers fans may recognise in the Taunton side is that of former Youth Team ‘keeper Lloyd Irish, a mainstay of the Under 18s set up throughout 2008 and 2009 he did make the first team bench on a couple of occasions in the FA Cup.
