The Glovers might have been enjoying a short winter break with a gap in the fixtures, but the plethora of Loanees we have out and about have still been in action.

Starting with the headline news that Bath City have reported that Goalkeeper Will Buse has suffered a broken finger in training.

The Romans had to get in an emergency loan from Bristol City for their FA Trophy defeat to Coalville, speaking after the game, Jerry Gill said that “late on Thursday night in training, Will Buse breaks his finger and we have until 12 o clock on Friday to get someone in”

Obviously, we hope it’s not too serious and Will can get back between the sticks as soon as possible.

No game for Oxford City, they had a blank weekend having already dropped out of the FA Trophy, so no action for Alex Fisher.

Nothing for Jordan Maguire-Drew either, Barnet did have an FA Trophy tie, but because of his game time for Yeovil against Torquay earlier in the competition, he was cup tied. – He did however play the full 90 in midweek as the Bees beat Dagenham.

JM-D’s left footed cross set up Nicke Kabamba for the first Bees goal.

W*ymouth picked a huge three points in the relegation dog fight at the bottom of the National League South, Malachi Linton played for two whole minutes at the end of the 90.

Dorchester picked up a vital three points away at Harrow Borough, the Magpies won 2-0 with Ollie Haste playing the full 90 ninety – he was influential at both ends.

Benjani Jnr started for Melksham and provided an assist for their solitary goal in a tough 6-1 defeat to Bishops Cleeve.

Shepton Mallet drew 2-2 with Ilfracombe, Charlie Bateson played the full game helping his side come from 2-0 down in a game they could have snatched all three points in at the end.

Over at Gillingham, the Gills went down 2-0 to Hallen FC. Harrison Foster and Josh Haskett started, Harry Lock and Jack Bareham were both named as subs.

Aidan Skiverton was named on the bench for Sherborne in their 1-0 defeat to Brockenhurst.

Two matches for Welton Rovers this week; on Tuesday, Rovers lost 2-0 to Oldland Abbotonians.

Max Dyer and Jacob Shore played the full 90, Mason Alden a second half sub.

Fast forward to Saturday and sadly Street ran out 3-0 winners against a Young Welton side.

Again, starts for Jacob Shore and Max Dyer with Alden used from bench once more.

The Loan Watch feature seems to be getting busier by the week, plenty on the go… so let’s not hang about.

Starting in the division above, Alex Fisher made his second Oxford City debut – fifteen years after his first – in a defeat up in Hartlepool.

He came on shortly after the hosts took the lead, but it ended in a 2-1 defeat, after the game Oxford manager Ross Jenkins said Fisher was “a handful and did well”

Staying in the National League Premier, Jordan Maguire-Drew came off the bench for Barnet, the Bees were 3-0 down at the time and JM-D’s set pieces were a handful in trying to get his side back in the game, he set up Barnet’s second in the dying seconds to see the game finish 3-2, he was also booked for simulation minutes after coming on from the bench.

In to the National League South, no Will Buse for Bath, obviously, but there was a debut for Malachi Linton who came off the bench for W*ymouth in their 2-1 defeat to Tonbridge Angels.

Dorchester and Ollie Haste lost 4-2 to high flying Hungerford Town, Haste getting the full 90, Shepton put on one of their performances of the season beating Torpoint 4-2. Charlie Bateson started and was described as putting in an “excellent” performance when taken off just after the hour.

Benjani Jr was on the winning side at Melksham too, 2-1 victors away at Bashley, the striker didn’t score, but did play the full game.

Aidan Skiverton started for Sherborne… but they lost 6-1 to AFC Portchester, Max Dyer and Mason Alden both started for Welton Rovers in a 5-0 defeat to Buckland Athletic, Jacob Shore was introduced from the bench when the game was already at 5-0.

We’ll finish on a slightly more cheerful note, two goals from Josh Haskett gave Gillingham a healthy lead against Bristol Telephones, but a trio of second half goals saw the Bristol side take the spoils 3-2, three other young Glovers were also involved; Harrison Foster started, Jack Bareham and Harry Lock on the bench.

Another busy Boxing Day of football up and down the land, here’s how the Glovers out on loan got on – there was plenty happening.

Firstly at Barnet, and we have to report a change to our previous edition, we said that JM-D had scored on his Barnet debut, which, is what the Bees had originally said, however, it does appear to have been given as a Billy Sass Davies Own Goal. Sorry, Jordan.

On Boxing Day, Jordan Maguire-Drew was an unused sub in a 2-0 win over Southend.

Will Buse was in goal for Bath, who left it late, but secured a 2-1 win over Chippenham.

Into the lower leagues now, and Benjani Jr was substituted after just 20 minutes of Melksham’s win over Frome, a game which appears to have had FIVE red cards.

Hopefully it wasn’t an injury that will keep the striker out for long.

Ollie Haste put in 90 minutes for Dorchester in their 2-1 defeat to Poole, another game packed full of incident, a late opportunity for an equaliser for the Magpies was squandered when the hosts missed an injury time penalty.

Much better drama at Shepton Mallet, who picked up an 88th minute winner in their local derby against Street.

Charlie Bateson was brought on in the second half and set up the all important winner.

Gillingham v Wincanton was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, as was Welton Rovers v Odd Down, Sherborne didn’t have a game and of course, no Malachi Linton in this round up as the terms of his loan from Yeovil to Taunton meant he couldn’t play in the Boxing Day clash at Huish Park.

It’s time for another Loan Watch as we wrap up how the Glovers out at other clubs are getting on.

Joe Day wasn’t the only Glovers’ goalkeeper who picked up a Cleano in the National League South. Will Buse and his Bath City side played out a 0-0 draw of their own against Dover Athletic.

Taunton did not have a good day at the office, they were soundly beaten by Havant and Waterlooville, Malachi Linton was initially named on the bench, but was introduced on the hour mark.

Let’s go to Melksham were Benjani Jr was also a substitute, but he did come on – as we can see from this gallery of images HERE  but we don’t quite know when. We do know his side drew 2-2 with Bristol Manor Farm.

Down at Dorchester, the Magpies threw a 1-0 lead away to lose 2-1 against Walton and Hersham. Ollie Haste started and was creative throughout the game.

Shepton Mallet were on the wrong end of a last minute goal from Clevedon to leave their home game with nothing.

Charlie Bateson was introduced on the hour mark and nearly snatched a late goal of his own.

Aidan Skiverton was named amongst the subs for Sherborne who lost against Andover, (although information is light on if he played or not).

Welton Rovers got beat fairly heavily against Helston, 9-1, the youthful side included Mason Alden and Jacob Shore.

Far better news from Gillingham, where plenty of goals were scored by young Glovers over their two games this week.

In midweek, they lost to Hamworthy in the Dorset cup 3-2, with goals from both Josh Haskett and Harry Lock, Jack Bareham and Harrison Foster were both involved too.

On Saturday they produced a brilliant display to beat Keynsham 5-2. Josh Haskett again on the score sheet (he set up three others too) whilst Jack Bareham picked up a goal himself and more minutes for Lock and Foster too.

The Glovers left Kent frustrated, but our cohort of loanees (well those who didn’t have pitches under water) had slightly better Saturday afternoons.

Starting up at Twerton Park and Bath City pulled off one of the upsets of the FA Trophy taking out National League Premier side Boreham Wood 1-0.

Will Buse was back between the sticks after missing out against his parent club on Wednesday night and kept a Cup Cleano.

Down at Taunton, they gave Farnborough a bit of a thrashing. It was 4-0 in the end with Malachi Linton used from the bench in the 2nd half.

As an aside, Linton has also been awarded the Peacocks’ November goal of the month for his strike against Street in the SMPC. Nice finish, Mal.

Ollie Haste clocked up 90 minutes more for Dorchester, he and his side picked up a big away win, 2-1 at Swindon Supermarine.

Haste nearly scored himself just after the hour and was booked in the 81st minute.

Plenty of games fell foul to the weather including Shepton Mallet.

But it’s worth noting that Charlie Bateson did make his comeback during a midweek match for them.

He came off the bench to mark his first game since being involved in a car collision. It’s great to see him back on the pitch.

Melksham didn’t play, neither did Sherborne, Gillingham were off and it was just too damp at Welton.

Whilst Yeovil might not be in action until Sunday, the plethora of loanees were out and about, negotiating the cold, trying to get some minutes under the belt.

Some were more successful than others.

Starting in the National League South and Will Buse was back between the sticks for high flying Bath, who took a 2-0 lead over ten-man Chelmsford, only to throw victory away, two late Freddie Hockey goals taking the three points back with the Clarets.

Over at Taunton, Malachi Linton was named as a sub for their game against Eastbourne – he didn’t get on though as the game was called off at half time with the Peacocks 2-1 up… it was just too foggy.

It was also too foggy for Dorchester to finish their game against Beaconsfield. Ollie Haste started for the Magpies, but trudged off at 66 minutes with the rest of his team – the score at the time was 1-1.

Down at Melksham, Benjani Jr was brought on as a late substitute for their 1-1 draw against Evesham United. The young striker introduced in the 82nd minutes.

Aidan ‘son of’ Skiverton was named on the bench for Sherborne Town in their game against Fareham – to be totally honest, I can find no info on if he came on or now, but the Zebras won 2-0.

The games involving, Shepton Mallet, Gillingham and Welton all bit the dust… or frost… on a chilly Saturday.

It’s strange how things turn out isn’t it? Not one single Yeovil Town employee was on the winning side this weekend.

Let’s begin in the National League South where Will Buse was in goal for Bath (we assume that means his loan has now morphed into a second month), The Romans drew 2-2 with Farnborough.

Taunton next and Malachi Linton started for the Peacocks, but was withdrawn in the 62nd minute, they drew 1-1 with Worthing.,

Ollie Haste and his Dorchester side were on the wrong side of a five-goal thriller against Salisbury, Haste was booked in the 5th minute, but saw out the full 90,

Dropping down, Benjani Jr played an hour for Melksham who drew 1-1 with Bemerton Heath, Welton Rovers also drew 1-1 with Max Dyer and Mason Alden on the pitch, Jacob Shore was an unused sub.

Gillingham lost 4-2 to Odd Down, however, Josh Haskett claimed the assist for one and Harrison Foster the assist for the other of the Gills goals, Harry Lock was also used from the bench.

Shepton Mallet were without Charlie Bateson for their 6-0 win, but revealed after the match that the young striker had been involved in a car accident on Saturday. We hope he, and anyone else involved, are OK and that he can be back scoring goals soon.

Whilst Yeovil were dumped out of the FA Trophy, there is at least one Glover with an interest in the third round draw.

Will Buse was in goal for Bath City as the Romans negotiated a tricky tie against Beaconsfield Town 1-0, Jerry Gill said that whilst Buse was quiet, when called upon, he made sure to make the saves count.

Plenty of postponed games, meaning we don’t have anything to say about some of the younger Glovers out on loan – nor Malachi Linton for that matter, Taunton’s FA Trophy game also fell foul to the weather, they’ll try again on Tuesday.

Melksham got their game on though, they drew 0-0 with Willand Rovers – Benjani Jr started the game and played 75 minutes of the stalemate.

Dorchester didn’t play either, but there was a nice moment this week for Ollie Haste, who won a social media poll for ‘Goal of the Week’ in the Southern League, good work Ollie!

…and here is the winning goal!

The wet weather had an impact again this weekend with games involving Yeovil Town loanees at Welton Rovers and Shepton Mallet falling foul of the weather.

Therefore, we begin at Dorchester Town where Ollie Haste is the lone loanee following the departure of Benjani Junior – and the central defender was a goal-scoring hero.

And, no, it wasn’t a header from a corner, it was a curling shot in to the far corner of the net to put the Magpies 2-0 up in the 18th minute of a 4-1 home win over Basingstoke Town in the Southern League Premier Division South.

Going a tier down – that’s two below National League South, if you were wondering – Benjani Junior played the full 90 minutes for Melksham Town in a 3-2 defeat against Cribbs Causeway.

Now we go up to National League South and Taunton Town where Malachi Linton made his first league start since returning from injury.

The striker played the first 56 minutes of a 1-0 defeat at Hemel Hempstead Town (where have we heard that scoreline before?!) with the goal coming late in the second half.

Finally, Will Buse put in a performance which was the most significant for the Yeovil first team, keeping a clean sheet in a 3-0 home win for Bath City over Aveley, enabling the Glovers to open up a six-point lead at the top of National League South.

There were starting places for Under-18s striker Josh Haskett and midfielder Jack Bareham in Gillingham Town’s 1-0 home win over Hengrove Athletic with Harrison Foster and Harry Lock both named on the substitutes’ bench for the Western League Division One fixture.

The Gills started well and went 1-0 up in the first before going down to ten men. Haskett was named the sponsors’ Man of the Match.

So, alongside the Welton contingent, Charlie Bateson at Shepton, there was no Aidan Skiverton in the Sherborne Town line-up and at Tiverton Town there is a new loan keeper in Plymouth Argyle youngster Zak Baker. So, we assume Lewis Williams has left and, with no appearance on the bench despite the lack of a back-up keeper for the first team……well, you finish that sentence.

Do you know what we need around here..? Even MORE loads out on loan. Well, you’re in luck.

We stick in the National League South though first, with goalkeeper Will Buse making his second start for his adopted Romans at Bath City. They were overturned 2-0 by Worthing dropping them down a couple of places in the table.

Off down the divisions below, at Dorchester defender Ollie Haste played the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw at home to Hayes and Yeading in the Southern League Premier South

Benjani Junior had been recalled from the Magpies this past week, but he was back out on loan and straight into the starting line up at Melksham Town in Southern League Division One South, that’s one tier lower than Dorchester.

He might not have scored, but he did help his side to a 3-2 win at home to Mousehole.

Shepton Mallet and Charlie Bateson went down 4-1 against Bridgwater United, whilst there were no games for Tiverton (Lewis Williams), Gillingham (Haskett, Bareham & F, Haste, Lock) and Sherborne (Skiverton Jr), with plenty of young Glovers left bemoaning the rain.

However, we have three names to add to the Loan Watch list over at Welton Rovers. Under-18s’ players Jacob Shore, Max Dyer and Mason Alden all made their debuts in a 4-1 win over Millbrook in the Toolstation Western League.

Including Malachi Linton – who is still recovering from injury before returning to Taunton – my latest count is that the Glovers currently have 14 players out on loan at various clubs.
