Yeovil Town have signed former Notts County goalkeeper Aidan Stone following Ollie Wright’s departure.
The 25-year-old, who has been on loan at Boston United in the National League Premier Division this season, was released from his contract earlier this week to allow him to move closer to his family in Devon.
He joins on a permanent deal after the club announced that Wright had returned to his parent club Southampton just over halfway through his season-long loan spell which saw him arrive in the summer.
Stone began his professional career with Burnley in the Premier League in 2017, albeit not featuring for them, before dropping down to Mansfield Town and Port Vale where he found himself in competition for his position.
In June 2023, he joined Notts County to compete with number one Sam Slocombe, but suffered a nightmare debut being sent off after 15 minutes of the opening match against Sutton United which the Magpies went on to lose 5-1. He did return to the starting line-up making 26 appearances last season.
However, he was transfer listed by manager Stuart Maynard in the summer and loaned out to National League Premier side Boston United in September where he remained until the end of last year, before returning to Meadow Lane and then being released from his contract this week.
At last….our very own first choice keeper! Been a while since we had one 😁
As much as Ollie Wright had improved, he still had mistakes in him (as evidenced in the last game), so a more experienced first team keeper who’s not on loan is a win in my book!
Aidan is a lovely fella, I for one will miss him at Notts. Look after him xx 🖤🤍 #COYP
