Yeovil Town made it through to the Premier Knockout Cup semi-final and secured bragging rights in the ‘YTFC derby’ by beating Yate Town 4-1.

The Glovers took the lead on a misty afternoon at Alvington, as Izzy Foster squeezed the ball past the Yate goalkeeper with 26 minutes on the clock.

It was two before the break when Lesley Spearing’s cross was dropped, allowing Erin Bloomfield to punish the error by seeing off a couple of defenders before smashing the ball into the roof of the net.

The Bluebells responded less than two minutes into the second half, with Yeovil goalkeeper Emily Hall unfortunate to see her smart save fall at the feet of the visitors’ striker.

But the goal proved to be only a minor setback for the Glovers, thanks to a moment of brilliance from Holly Meakins. She picked the ball up in the middle of the park, drove forward and unleashed an unstoppable effort from all of 30 yards. An absolute scorcher!

And even though the conditions deteriorated, the fog didn’t get in the way of Bloomfield’s eye for goal. She went on a mazy run of her own, worked an opening and curled the ball home to make it four for Yeovil.

Speaking to club media after the match, manager Dave Court said: “It was a well-fought victory today. It was a very competitive game, as they all are. To go to the semi-final is great – we want to be at the back end of competitions, so yeah, really pleased.”

Gloucester City are next on the Glovers’ schedule, when we welcome them to Alvingon on Sunday 15th November, kicking off at 2pm.
