It’s time for the return of everyones favourite competition,  The Somerset Cup, as Yeovil Town play hosts to in form Weston-super-Mare in midweek.

Form Guide…

The Glovers have been in superb form over the last month with three wins, a draw and a loss from their five games. The one loss was last time out as they fell to Halifax 0-1 at home. Aside from that loss Yeovil have had some good wins, defeating Southend and Maidenhead.

The Seagulls have also been in a purple patch in the National League South with four wins from five in the league. However, they have also been knocked out the FA Cup and the FA Trophy, to Bristol Rovers and those who shall not be named, respectively. The FA Cup result at the start of the month to the Gas was not as bad as the result shows, as WSM took the League One side to extra time.

Key Players…

Yeovil Town – Corey Koerner

Koerner is the obvious name that stands out for Glovers fans. The Under 18s captain was involved with the first team throughout pre-season. The defender also made the match day squad for the fixtures against Solihull and Fylde. Since then he has enjoyed fruitful loan spells at Plymouth Parkway and Sherborne.

He has been in fine form for the youth side scoring four goals in four league games for them, whilst also being somewhat of a set piece specialist.

Weston-super-Mare – Sam Pearson (potentially)

That’s right, the ex-Yeovil player has found some good form since leaving Huish Park last month. In his six games for the Seasiders, the winger has netted three goals.

During his time in South Somerset you could see the Welshman had quality about him but was unfortunately unable to show it all that often.

That’s what he said…

WSM gaffer, Scott Bartlett gave his thoughts on the his squad after Saturdays game. He said: “We have one or two that would benefit from a game but the rest will young ones, we’ve got to make sure we go into the following week with a fully fit squad.”

We’ve met before…

The two side have met six times since 2020 with four wins for the glovers and two draws. The last time the two sides met was in pre-season as Yeovil defeated the Seagulls 0-2 with goals from Aaron Jarvis and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton.

Don’t I Know you…

On Weston’s side of things there are a few ex-Glovers with the previously mentioned Sam Pearson alongside Ruben Reid.

Reid played at Huish Park across two spells, the first time between 2012 and 2014 with 19 appearances and then again between 2021 and 2022 playing 49 games scoring 10 goals during both spells.

Who’s been naughty then…

No suspension to report.
