Latest Yeovil Town News (Page 485)

Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Jack Robinson have been brought in to the Yeovil Town starting XI for the FA Cup fourth qualifying round replay at W*ymouth tonight (7.45pm kick-off).

Sonny replaces fellow loanee Ben Seymour whilst Robinson is in for Tom Knowles with Jordan Barnett  presumably playing in a more forward position on the left side.

For the home side former Glover Brandon Goodship, who was suffering with a back injury after the first game on Saturday, drops to the bench.

That lot from down the road make three changes with Taofiq Olomowewe, Ben Thomson and Tom Bearwish, whose 93rd minute equaliser earned the replace, coming in place to Josh Leslie-Smith, Josh McQuoid and Goodship.

Yeovil Town: Grant Smith, Jack Robinson, Dan Moss, Josh Staunton, Max Hunt, Matt Worthington, Dale Gorman, Jordan Barnett, Charlie Wakefield, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Joe Quigley.
Substitutes: Max Evans, Jordan Dyer, Tom Knowles, Lewis Simper, Ben Seymour, Adi Yussuf.

W*ymouth: Fitzsimons, Cordner, Mussa, Thomson, Ash, Bearwish, Brooks, Harfield, Yarney, Olomowewe, Shields.
Substitutes: Taylor-Crossdale, Morgan, Goodship, McQuoid, A.Robinson, Murray, Bruton.

A key roundabout between Yeovil and W*ymouth is closed ahead of the FA Cup fourth qualifying round replay down by the seaside tonight (Tuesday, October 19).

The Monkeys Jump Roundabout outside Dorchester and Poundbury is shut for resurfacing from 8pm last night (Monday) until 6am tomorrow (Wednesday) for resurfacing.

This means the A37 Dorchester Bypass is shut between the Weirs Roundabout and the Monkeys Jump Roundabout, so people travelling from Yeovil will need to go through Dorchester.

Read the Dorset Echo article for further details – here.

You’re probably thinking to yourself, “I’m sure i’ve read this preview before”…. and you’d be right, you have, I’ve just switched a few names around and left it as it was for the first tie… I’m a busy guy, dont judge, alright.

Anyway…

First thing is first – Tickets for Glovers fans appear to be SOLD OUT, because you’re a crazy/brilliant (delete as appropriate) bunch, for the lucky 800 or so who are heading to the sea side, the Ciderspace Away Guide has been put together, by Hugh – legend.

W*ymouth Yeovil make the short journey up down the A37 in worse form than the W*ymouth Yeovil Town side they will face in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round (replay) tie at Huish Park on Saturday  The Bob Lucas Stadium on Tuesday, following their 1-1 draw at the weekend.

Having avoided the drop straight back to National League South after relegation was cancelled last season, the Terras picked up a couple of impressive wins including a 4-3 victory at Solihull Moors where they were 4-1 up.

But that victory on September 4 was there last with five defeats and two draws, leaking 15 goals in the process.

To trot out the cliches, this is a local derby and an FA Cup tie to boot though, and therefore we can assume the form book is headed somewhere out the window – that’s the theory at least.

Another record which is not lost on manager Brian Stock is that it’s been 14 seasons since the seagull botherers made the competitions first round.

Talking to the Dorset Echo, the boss said: “That’s something we discussed at the start of the season.

“What a great achievement it would be if we were to do that this year and knock out our local rivals. I don’t think it would be much better than that.

“It’s going to be a tough game, they’re a good team. If it was me as player, I’d be looking forward to it.

“It’s a special cup and one we’re looking to try and progress as far as we can in.

“The prize money means a lot to the club but this tie goes beyond prize money. There’s a little more at stake for everyone connected to the club.”

FROM THE MANAGER (before the first tie)

Having woken up to the fact this match is actually a derby having seemingly missed the fact after his side were turned over 3-0 on home soil in last season’s National League fixture in January, boss Brian Stock reckons his side owe the Glovers one.

He said: “We’ve put in two disappointing performances in the league and we’re looking to rectify that.

“What an atmosphere that’s going to be. There’s no easy game but given the local derby at Yeovil it’s one I’m definitely looking forward to.

“Usually revenge isn’t necessarily spoken about when teams beat you in the past but I suppose it’s something slightly different here because it’s Yeovil.

“It’s one that means a lot to the supporters. I’m sure it will be the talk of the town at the moment. It’s an exciting time.”

TEAM NEWS (before the first game)

Central defender Ben Morgan is W*ymouth manager Brian Stock’s only injury concern heading in to the weekend.

The summer signing from Gloucester City has not featured since the televised draw at home to Dover Athletic almost a month ago having suffered an Achilles injury.

Update ahead of the replay

It is thought that Brandon Goodship, ex Glover and Southend striker, may be struggling for fitness with a back problem and could be ruled out.

A FOOT IN BOTH CAMPS

As you’d imagine, there could be an awful lot of these, so we’ll keep the run-down to players likely to be involved at the weekend.

Brandon Goodship is (no longer) likely (see above) to be in the starting XI for W*ymouth and played eight times for Darren Way’s Yeovil in 2017, scoring a crucial goal in a 1-0 win at Dagenham & Redbridge which helped keep us in the League.

He was released at the end of that campaign and dropped down to the Wessex Stadium where he scored 38 goals in his first season and 39 in his second campaign in the Southern League Premier earning him a move in to the Football League at Southend United.

Despite making more than 50 appearances for the Shrimpers, he was released following their relegation to non-League and returned to Weymouth in the summer.

Right-back Calvin Brooks spent four years in the Huish Park youth set-up but was unable to make a first-team appearance before joining Dorchester Town.

He is now a regular fixture in the Terras back line and committed his future to the club in the summer.

Well, we conceded a last minute equaliser at home to W*ymouth after a pretty torrid run at home. Ian, Dave and Ben have slept on it and are here to brighten* your Monday.

*Brightening not guaranteed.

The Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust’s under-13s side picked up a win in the Junior Premier League this weekend.

The Trust’s under-11s and under-15s drew their fixtures.

Yeovil Town Under-18s were without a league fixture and instead played a friendly match at AFC Bournemouth Academy.

The Championship side’s youngsters came out the winners but we are not sure what the final score was.

Matt Worthington in action vs Dover

Yeovil Town have been drawn away  at either Dover or Yate Town in the FA Cup First Round Draw, should they get past W*ymouth

The draw was made by a pair of FA Cup winning captains, Kelly Smith and Wes Morgan (yes, he of 2007 shoddy back pass fame)

The Glovers will have to get past their local rivals this Tuesday the 19th of October after conceding a last minute equaliser on Saturday. Dover and Yate Town also drew 1-1 at the weekend and will go again this Tuesday.

All First Round ties will be played over the weekend of Saturday 6th of November, ticket and travel details will be confirmed… if Tuesday goes well!

Four games in the spin at Huish Park and things couldn’t be much worse. Here are my five conclusions from the dire draw against Weymouth.

I stick up for Joe Quigley, quite a lot. After Tuesday I thought we needed to change it up and take him out of firing line, and his performance against Weymouth validated that view. He was given a torrid afternoon by Josef Yarney. The defender physically dominated Quigley. He was sharper. Quicker to the ball and had the nous to earn free-kick after free-kick at the expense of Quigley. Our top scorer’s awful afternoon was compounded when he failed to retain possession from a corner in the 90th minute when trying to wind the clock down which allowed Weymouth to get the ball up the pitch and find an equaliser.

We stuck with a 4-3-3 with Charlie Wakefield up front and it worked nicely in the first 45 minutes. Wakefield took his goal nicely and caused problems for the Weymouth defence. As we dropped deeper in the second half we struggled to get Wakefield on the ball and couldn’t utilise his energy. Wakefield is becoming a bright spark in what has been a dark couple of weeks for the Glovers.

As the second half wore on, the eventual equaliser was as obvious as Phil Jevons putting away a penalty. Grant Smith was taking time on his goal kicks in the first half and in the second we were in no hurry to chase a second goal. Weymouth made tactical changes, brought on fresh legs up front and we dropped deeper and deeper. We made Omar Mussa look like Xabi Alonso in midfield, giving him time and space to dictate proceedings. Our changes saw us bring on a left back for Tom Knowles and move a left back into his position. We were about bring on Lewis Simper to kill some minutes but we never got him on the pitch. Our tactics in the second half invited Weymouth onto us and we paid the price. The resilience and robustness we lauded at the start of the season has been replaced by fragility and fear.

There were the most vocal chants against our absentee owner who, once again, couldn’t find his way to Huish Park. As the silence continues, the vociferousness of opinion will only continue to grow and he only has himself to blame for that. It was time for someone to stick their head out before the Altrincham game. The longer this goes on, the more toxic the football club is going to become. We’ve talked about the need for total change on the podcast and it could not be clearer now. One of those at the table was at the game today, he has to know the supporters don’t want him running the club.

We need change in the dugout. Darren Sarll’s race is run in my view. He exited down the tunnel rather than face the fans and I think the signing of Mitch Rose and his comments in the aftermath have caused irreparable damage to the relationship with some supporters. The quality of football is down there with his predecessor’s. Once we’re on the pitch, we can’t change shape or system effectively. I think he’s a manager who has got his hands tied behind his back by his boss, but his cosiness with the “custodian” who is letting the football club die is irreversible. He’s not the man to unite the fans and turn the tide in my view. With anyone else in charge at the club, I think we’d see Terry Skiverton managing on Tuesday and I actually wouldn’t mind it. Sadly, while Scott Priestnall’s at the helm, I don’t see any change happening and that’s why we need a takeover to be completed as soon as possible.

Glovers’ legend Chris Weale was in attendance to watch Yeovil Town’s 1-1 draw with W*ymouth this afternoon.

The former shot-stopper, who enjoyed great success as Gary Johnson’s number one in the early ’00s, took to twitter to give his views on the game and the style of football on show.
