Former Yeovil Town defender Ollie Haste has signed for Dorchester Town after leaving Huish Park.

Haste, who made just two league appearances for the Glovers – on the final day of each of the last two seasons – head to Dorchester where he spent last season on loan with great success.

There were reports this summer that he was considering options in the states, but opts for something a little closer to home.

Haste remains (to the best of our knowledge) the youngest man to Captain Yeovil in a first team game when he led out a mostly Under 18s side in the Somerset Men’s Premier Cup.

All the best, Ollie

Jacob Roddy, or as he was known around these parts, ‘Trialist A’ has signed for National League South Side, Oxford City.

The former Charlton and Dagenham defender had been training with the Glovers and made a couple of appearances for Mark Coopers’ side in the early part of of the friendly schedule.

Away fans should buy tickets in the East Stand (away section).
The pre-purchase process does seem to include setting up an account on site – you’ll need a valid email address and contact details to do so.

Any Yeovil fan who wishes to sit – rather than stand – has two options, buy your ticket at the ticket office on the night (Cash preferred) or call the Office to buy in advance on 01205 364406 – a nice lady called Claire said she’d be more than happy to assist any fans in this situation.

The club’s 2024-2025 admission prices on the turnstiles will be subject to a £1 supplement – so advanced purchases are recommended.

Any disabled supporters attending this fixture are asked to call (01205) 364406 to discuss their requirements.

National League games will be shown on the sports streaming platform DAZN for the next few seasons.

Details are somewhat thin on the ground at the moment, but it appears that TNT sports (formerly BT Sport) are no longer working with the National League.

The Non League Paper have suggested that one game per week will be selected for full, multi-camera coverage with all other NLP games available which fall outside of the usual 3pm Saturday blackout.

With all Play Off games also covered and including in a range of subscription packages including single match, monthly and season-long.

The league have announced a multi-year deal with the streaming platform ending in the early 2030’s!

General Manager Mark Ives said in a statement; “We are incredibly excited about this groundbreaking long term joint venture with DAZN, one of the biggest players in sports broadcasting and the deal demonstrates the continuing growth and reach of the National League.

“The global exposure that DAZN will bring the league and our clubs cannot be overstated.

“DAZN will be using their vast expertise in sports broadcasting and streaming to allow fans in both the UK, and internationally, to access live matches across all connected devices like never before.

“We look forward to working very closely with them to enhances the viewing experience for all fans that can’t be at the stadium, which we believe is to the full benefit of our clubs and supporters.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank TNT Sports for their full support and coverage they have provided.”

DAZN Group CEO Shay Segev (who we can only assume knows his Maidenheads from his Maidstones and what not) added: “DAZN’s technology makes us uniquely placed to create destinations for sports fans, and this multi-year partnership will allow us to create a global home for the National League, helping fans better access the teams they are so passionate about, while creating engagement opportunities to access new audiences.

“This is the latest in a series of channel deals which leverage DAZN’s scale and industry leading tech stack to revolutionise the way rights holders increase exposure to domestic and international audiences and develop their sport digitally and commercially.

Plenty of long, fancy words but it will almost certainly mean a(nother) subscription service for Glovers fans to sign up to and presumably DAZN will also host the National League TV services too.

There’s no sign of any early “Live Games” list like TNT/BT provided. So this announcement feels like it could do with a further one… or three… in the future.

... I mean all the info you need is in the headline, but as you’ve made it this far.

Yeovil Town’s trip to Gateshead (nice and local) on Saturday 24th August will now kick off at 12:30pm.

This means Glovers fans will have to set off from Somerset sometime late on the 23rd 😉.

This change, is presumably to assist Yeovil get back from the very North with half a chance of getting some rest in before going again on Bank Holiday Monday against Rochdale (Mon 26th – 3pm).

If, like last year, National League TV have a service which covers all non-3pm games, it could well mean this game will be available to stream and watch.

Still, a hardy few will no doubt set their alarms early, board their planes, trains and automobiles and head north for a lunchtime kick off… nutters.

For the second time in just a few days, Yeovil Town fell short against EFL opposition as the Glovers lost 3-1 to Exeter City at Huish Park in front of a cracking crowd of over 2,500 – it wasn’t that long ago that would have been an impressive league attendance!

The Glovers found themselves 1-0 down at half time, thanks to a goal from former Huish Park loanee, Sonny Cox.

The second half was more of a goal fest, with Santino Ohanaka and Kieran Wilson notching for the Grecians, Frank Nouble did pull a goal back and Dylan Morgan saw a late penalty saved by the Exeter ‘Keeper Joe Whitworth.

Both Charlie Cooper and Frank Nouble picked up the lesser-spotted pre-season booking (it’s only a friendly, ref, chill out) and both ‘keepers were forced into more than a couple of good saves.

Gloverscast Ian was there at Huish Park, but was trying to keep a small child entertained so a full match report might not have been possible, but I’m sure we’ll chat about the game in full on the next podcast.

The general consensus from Gloverscast sources was that the second half was better than the first, Brett McGavin and Dylan Morgan both impressed from the bench and there more minutes for young Glovers Corey Koerner and Krystian Woods.

Here are a couple of headlines:

We have a new trialist, Brandon Haunstrup. Haunstrup, 27, was introduced in the 70th minute, predominantly a left back with SPL experience and played for Cambridge and Gateshead (loan) last season, his time with the U’s came to an end at the end of last season.

We won a penalty (yay!). We missed a penalty (boo). Dylan Morgan missed the chance to get the Glovers back in the game with a spot kick, his effort was saved by the Exeter ‘keeper.

That’s Huish Park done until Hartlepool. Just the two friendlies were scheduled in for Huish Park this summer, with Farnborough (Sat 27th), Buckland (Tues 30th) and Weston super-Mare (Sat 3rd) all away from Somerset’s Premier football venue.

Yeovil Team:

Wright (Gould ’70), Smith (Williams ’45), Wannell (Stevens ’45), Cousin-Dawson, Whittle (Haunstrup ’70), Cooper (McGavin ’62), Lo-Everton, Worthington (Koerner ’70), Pearson (Morgan ’70), Nouble (Woods ’85), Jarvis (Greenslade ’70)

Pre season continues to roll and the Glovers take on more EFL opposition in the form of Exeter City.

Jordan Young missing out from the squad is the main headline from Mark Coopers’ line up.

There’s a new central defensive partnership to take a look at as Jake Wannell and Finn Cousin-Dawson team up at the heart of the back line.

Ollie Wright continues to start between the sticks, whilst there continues to be no space for Jordan Thomas who is yet to step out on to the pitch as a Glovers.

Jacob Shore, the youngster who started against Melksham hasn’t made the cut either after missing the last couple of games with a thigh problem.

Jordan Stevens remains with the squad.

The team in full (4-3-3ish… you know how it is)

Wright

Smith – Wannell – FCD – Whittle

Lo-Everton- Cooper – Worthington

Pearson- Nouble – Jarvis

The Bench…

Everyone else, including two young lads, Corey Koerner and Krystian Woods.

There is also an unnamed trialist on the bench too.

Yeovil Town will begin life back in the National League Premier with a visit to Huish Park from Darren Sarll’s Hartlepool United on Saturday, August 10th.

The Glovers will then travel to fellow National League South promotion winners Braintree Town for their first away game seven days later.

The keys dates of Boxing Day and New Years Day will split by a home game against Eastleigh as we tuck into our festive left overs whilst welcoming in 2025 with a vegan sausage roll away at Forest Green.

We end the season (and lift the trophy?) with a trip to Aldershot Town in the first week of May.

There a couple of headlines with neither Jordan Maguire-Drew or Will Buse given a number ahead of the new campaign.

Southampton Loanee Ollie Wright takes the Number 1, whilst JM-D’s number 10 shirt has been given to Frank Nouble – who last season wore 30.

Morgan Williams takes his fifth different number (2, 13, 17, 29 for those wondering) as a Glover and becomes the first YTFC player to be given the number four since the passing of Lee Collins.

Yeovil Town have announced the loan signing of Southampton goalkeeper Ollie Wright for the upcoming season.

The 21-year-old, who was in the Worthing squad last season – and saved a Rhys Murphy penalty at Huish Park in April – joins on a season-long loan from the Saints.

The 6’4″ stopper, who was born in Frome, joins the Glovers’ goalkeeper department alongside Will Buse who remains under contract after spending the majority of last season with Bath City.

Manager Mark Cooper was told ytfc.net there was competition to bring in the Frome-born player, who signed a new contract at St Mary’s until 2026 this summer. The boss said: “The process to finalise the deal was rigorous and required numerous presentations and conversations against other National League and Football League clubs to bring him here. Ollie has a commanding presence and made a strong impression when we faced him last season against Worthing.

Speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel, the player said: “I’m really excited, it’s nice to be here and I’m excited to get going. I did have some interest, but this was a no brainer for me after speaking with the Gaffer, the style of play and players suits me to a tee and being a local lad I think is here.

There will be at least one familiar face among his new team-mates in the shape of Glovers’ midfielder Dylan Morgan, Wright said: “It will be nice to play with Dylan again, it’s been a while. He’s a close mate of mine, so it will be good. I am excited.”

The keeper’s last outing saw him on the right side of a 3-1 win for Worthing back in April, a game when he saved a 50th minute penalty from then-Glovers’ striker, Rhys Murphy – and he admitted he is keen to make amends with his new supporters.

He said:  “I remember coming after the game and thinking to myself, this is a good place to play football for next year and I am here now and ready to make it up to the fans after the Worthing game! I am ready for the challenge and ready to showcase my skills and what I am about and most importantly win games for the Gaffer and the lads.

Wright has had a loan spell in the South West, started last season with Bath City in National League South before picking up an injury which saw him return to Southampton where he was regularly involved in the club’s Under-21s.

Having returned to fitness, he returned to National League South with Worthing in February and, having missed out in the division’s play-off final, he was with the first-team squad at Wembley for the Championship play-off final when Saints beat Leeds United to return to the Premier League next season.

Speaking back in April when the gloveman signed a new deal, Southampton academy director Andy Goldie, said: “Ollie has had a great development year on loan. This contract not only rewards him for the progress he’s made this season, but also provides him with time to build on the success he’s enjoyed and maximise the opportunities and plan we have for him over the next two seasons.

With Wright and Buse now on the books, the likelihood of another arrival between the posts seems unlikely with Joe Day, the regular number one as Yeovil romped to the National League South title last season, still yet to find a new club following his release by Newport County.

Welcome to Huish Park, Ollie!
