Former Yeovil Town midfielder, Alex John has found a new home in Wales after signing for Merthyr Town.

We reported recently that he had been on trial in Scotland with Dundee FC, but has opted for a move to the Welsh side instead.

A regular in the first team squad for the last few seasons at Huish Park he failed to make an competitive appearances and spent time on loan at Hull City.

All the best at Merthyr, Alex.

Pre-season is underway for both the senior and junior sidest at Huish Park and the Yeovil Under 18s lost 2-1 to Paulton Rovers in their first fixture of the new campaign.

No details were given regardling team line ups, but the score ended up 2-1 to Paulton with the Glovers’ only goal coming from Korey Andrew.

Andrew is a new name to keep an eye on, the Under18s would likely have been without Ollie Haste who was with the first team for the game against Weston super-Mare.

Yeovil Town‘s upcoming friendly against Southampton B has been called off following confirmation of a “number” of positive Covid-19 tests.

All individuals with that positive test have been placed into isolation as per current guidelines and further information regarding the knock on to the Bournemouth U23s friendly will be announced in due course.

Everyone at the Gloverscast wishes all those who have tested positive a swift recovery.

Lo-Everton in action against the Glovers

The Gloverscast understands that Yeovil Town are taking a look at Watford youngster Sonny Blu Lo-Everton in the game against Weston-super-Mare today

Lo-Everton is an 18-year old academy product for the Hornets who spent time on loan at Wealdstone last season, playing ten times, scoring twice, once on his debut against Woking and once in his final appearance against Hartlepool.

He did play against the Glovers as an 18th minute substitute replacing Alex Dyer as Yeovil ran out comfortable, 2-0 winners in early May.

An attack minded player, he can play in a number of different roles and has been involved in a number of Watford’s first team friendly fixtures wearing the number 10 shirt.

At the moment, it’s unclear if we’ve have sealed a loan deal already or if this is simply a trial agreement.

The youngster is a Scottish youth International who has been at Vicarage Road for nearly a decade already after signing for the club aged just nine. He is under contract with Watford until the end of this current 2021/22 season suggesting a loan deal is more likely than a permanent one.

New Yeovil Town defender Mark Little has been speaking to the football podcast Millsy and Mason’s Football Hootenanny about his career so far and what he’s hoping to achieve during his time at Huish Park.

During the chat, he spoke about having to deal with crossing the Bristol divide having played for both Rovers and City as well a career that has taken in big sides like Peterborough and Bolton as well as his recent stance on social media abuse and the racist nature of that abuse that he and others at all levels have received.

When asked about the expectations for the season, Little was adamant that the squad want to be nearer the top than the bottom of the table.

“It (the target) is definitely not to stabilise, because I don’t expect to be at the bottom of the table.. I’m really excited to start the season, every day in training and in the game recently, I’m looking around thinking ‘this is actually really good’.

“I’ve been really impressed with the team, the players I’m playing with the standard of football we are playing. I’m enjoying it.”

The full back was honest enough to note than it’s likely that the Glovers aren’t competing with some sides in the division from a budget point of view, but that it was still the club’s intention to battle with the higher spending sides.

“If we are in contention with them (higher spending sides), that’s my personal aim and I hope that’s what the rest of the lads will be doing.”

“I believe our squad will give a good account of ourselves and me, going out there leading it, I’m pretty sure I’m not going to be accepting anything else to be honest.”

“I’m excited for the season, I really am , I’m going to be realistic about it, if we win the league, I will be very very happy because that would mean we would have ‘done a Leicester’ and beat all the top money spenders… and why not!?”

Glovers Trialist vs Taunton

Yeovil Town are back in pre-season action this Tuesday facing local side Taunton Town.

The Glovers are lining up in a slightly different formation than the one used againt Forest Green Rovers at the weekend – employing a 4-4-1-1 set up with Lewis Simper starting in the role just behind Reuben Reid the sole front man.

There’s a little rotation to the side as other members of the side build up match fitness and notably, just one trialist – a new one as well.

Early reports are that former Wolves and Bradford winger Zeli Ismail is the number 16 hoping to impress – starting the game on the wide left hand side of a midfield four – although this has yet to be confirmed (picture attached – what do you think?)

The full side is below – none of the other trialists we have seen in the other friendlies have been listed as in the squad, suggesting Deshane Dalling, Harlain Mbayo and Jack Bodenham have not been given any futher opportunities to impress.

One new name on the bench is that of attacking midfielder Ollie Haste, a Glovers academy product who has signed a scholarship from Bideford Blues Youth Side as a junior.

A name that some Glovers fans may recognise in the Taunton side is that of former Youth Team ‘keeper Lloyd Irish, a mainstay of the Under 18s set up throughout 2008 and 2009 he did make the first team bench on a couple of occasions in the FA Cup.

Former Yeovil Town midfielder Gabriel Rogers has been spotted on trial at Southern League Premier Division side Tiverton Town.

Our friends at WeLoveYouYTFC alerted us to Rogers’ appearance in the Tivvy friendly against Plymouth Parkway which took place on Saturday. (July 31st)

Previously, Rogers had been on trial with Wycombe Wanderers, news we broke here on the Gloverscast in early July.

Rogers left Huish Park under something of a cloud after being left out of Darren Sarrl’s plans for much of the 2020/21 season.

He played 23 times across all competitions for the Glovers, scoring one goal – that last gasp thunderbolt against Bromley in the FA Cup.

All the best at Tiverton, Gabby!

Former Yeovil Town attacking midfielder, Matty Warburton has signed for fellow National League side FC Halifax Town after a short spell on trial.

Warburton appeared under the cunning guise of “Trialist” in a couple of pre-season friendlies for the Yorkshire side against Farsley Celtic and Carlisle United

Warburton was signed on loan from Northampton Town during a mid season re-jig of signings but his time at Huish Park was a struggle, failing to get regular game time before departing his loan spell ahead of schedule.

An absolute Rolls Royce of a midfielder on his day, he played 19 times for the Glovers scoring twice, once against Woking and once against his former club Stockport County in the FA Cup.

We wish Matt all the best at the Shay Stadium… with obvious exceptions for games against Yeovil Town.
