Women Secure a Weston-super victory
Match Round Up
Yeovil Town Women 2-1 Weston-super-Mare
Yeovil Town Women earned their second win of the season on Sunday as they overcame local rivals Weston-super-Mare in a tight affair.
In form midfield pair Abbie Carslake and Becky Miles provided the goals for the Glovers once again, as Yeovil propelled themselves into 4th position in the Regen Arable Division One South.
Paul Knight made two changes to the team who thumped Bideford the previous week, as Orla East and Terri Will replaced Jess Hodge and Katie Evans. Goalkeeper Charlotte Johnson captained the side.
Yeovil maintained their goalscoring form from the previous week, this was made evident as Abbie Carslake opened the scoring within the opening ten minutes. This was Carslake’s third goal in as many weeks, as she gave the Glovers an early lead, as she did last week.
Despite the Hosts’ early pressure, Weston hit back in the 26th minute courtesy of a penalty kick. Charlotte Johnson was caught behind an opposition forward and bundled her over, giving the referee no choice but to award the spot-kick. Natasha Crew stepped up for the visitors and dispatched the penalty confidently to level it up.
The visitors’ equaliser was cancelled out in just four minutes, as Becky Miles regained Yeovil’s advantage. The midfielder skipped past multiple players before finishing into the far corner of the net, an impressive reaction by Paul Knight’s side. This goal ensured that Miles has been on the scoresheet in every league match so far, she leads the club goalscoring charts with five in the league.
Following Miles’ goal, Weston gave Yeovil another scare as they struck the crossbar from a free kick.
The teams went in at the break with the score 2-1.
The conditions at Alvington worsened throughout the second half as the rain poured down, inevitably turning the game into more of a scrap as the half progressed.
Despite the weather Yeovil were able to hold on to the victory and record their second league victory of the season, putting them on 7 points from 4 matches.
