Under 18s (Page 3)

Yeovil Town Under-18s get their South West Counties Youth League season underway with a home match against Bath City at Alvington on Saturday (10.30am kick-off).

Ironically, the fixture is the same one that the young Glovers closed last season with – albeit that match was played at Huish Park – with goals from Charlie Bateson and Mason Alden securing a 2-0 win in late April.

A number of players who would normally have been named in the Under-18s are now playing elsewhere with Bateson on loan at Shepton Mallet, and defender Jacob Shore and Ollie Haste and forward Benjani Junior out at Tiverton Town and Dorchester Town respectively.

The league’s website names 31 registered players in the Yeovil Town squad for the upcoming season with some familiar names including Alden, Joey Beckey, Max Dyer, Harrison Foster, Josh Haskett and Aidan Skiverton, who all featured to some degree last season.

The alphabetically-challenged Glovers will be looking to get off the bottom of the table with a positive result against their alphabetically superior opposition.

Yeovil Town’s young Glovers have been handed an home tie in the FA Youth Cup 1st qualifying round

The Under 18s will welcome either Helston Athletic or AFC St Austell with the game scheduled for the week commencing September the 18th.

The game kicks off at 7:30pm and entry is free to all.

Entrance is via the Conference Centre in the main stand.

The Under 18s could name a number of players who have been out on loan or have been involved in the first team during Men’s Somerset Premier Cup games, with names like Charlie Bateson, Rob Hollard and Benjani Jr all available for selection.

While the first team’s struggles in front of goal continued, there was one team at Huish Park on Saturday who could not stop finding the net.

Yeovil Town Under-18s romped to a 6-1 home win over Wimborne Town in the South West Counties Youth League fixtured played on the 3G surface at the club due to the wet weather.

With Tiverton Town’s fixture being postponed, striker Charlie Bateson was in the starting XI and opened the scoring after just seven minutes before adding a second after 18 minutes.

The visitors pulled one back two minutes later before goals from Under-16s’ striker Bobby Hilton, a third for Bateson and Aidan Skiverton saw the young Glovers lead 5-1 at half-time.

Substitute Joey Beckey, who along with Hilton is a product of the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust youth teams, added a sixth with six minutes remaining to complete the rout which keeps them in third place behind Bridgwater United and leaders Torquay United.

Yeovil Town Under-18s: Hollard, Archibald, Dyer, Nowak, Skiverton, Foster, Alden, Bareham, Bateson, Beale, Hilton. Substitutes: Hodges, Evans, Johnson, Beckey, Westlake.

Yeovil Town Under-18s dropped to third place in the South West Counties Youth League after a 4-0 defeat at Torquay United on Saturday.

Double strikes from strikers Ben Aldous, the league’s top scorer, and Jayden Gilbert were enough to hand the Gulls victory and see them leap frog the young Glovers in the table.

Their next fixture sees them take on bottom-of-the-table Bath City at Alvington next weekend (10.30am kick-off).

Yeovil Town Under-18s: Witcombe, Dyer, Lock (for Koerner, 50), Skiverton, Foster, O’Sullivan Hunter, Bareham (for Beale, 50), Stevens (for Westlake, 70), Alden, Haskett.

Second-placed Yeovil Town Under-18s make the journey to third in the table Torquay United in the South West Counties League this weekend.

The young Glovers will be looking to put last weekend’s 3-2 home defeat against Mangotsfield United behind them when they take on a Gulls’ side manager by former defender Ryan Dickson at South Devon College Sports Centre on Saturday (11am kick-off).

Their opponents picked up a 7-0 win over bottom-of-the-table Bath City last weekend and sit two points behind them in the table, albeit having played three fewer matches.

The club’s other age group teams are also in action this weekend with the Under-11s and Under-16s both facing their opponents from Mid-Somerset Regional Talent Centre.

The Under-12s take on Torquay United, the Under-13s face South Gloucestershire Regional Talent Centre, the Under-14s play Taunton Town and the Under-15s go up against Gloucester City.

The youth sides from Under-11s through to Under-16s all compete in the Junior Premier League as part of Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust.

A double strike from Mason Alden could not save Yeovil Town Under-18s from a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Mangotsfield United at Alvington on Saturday morning.

The young Glovers, who were missing key players including top scorer Charlie Bateson who has gone out on loan at Tiverton Town, remain in second place in the South West Counties Youth League, five points behind leaders Bridgwater United.

Next weekend, they travel to third-placed Torquay United who picked up a 7-0 win over bottom club Bath City this weekend. The Gulls are managed by former Yeovil defender Ryan Dickson.

Under-18s team: Hamblin, Dyer, Lock, Sutton, Skiverton, Foster, Hunter, Bareham, Stevens, Alden, Haskett. Substitutes: Witcombe, Evans, Westlake, O’Sullivan, Nowak.

In the Junior Premier League, there were wins for the club’s Under-12s over Taunton Town and the Under-14s and Under-16s against Exeter City Regional Talent Centre.

The Under-11s were beaten by FC Wiltshire whilst the Under-13s and Under-15s both drew with Exeter RTC. The other younger age group sides all play as part of the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust.

Yeovil Town Under-18s have an opportunity to close the gap at the top of the South West Counties Youth League this weekend.

The second-placed young Glovers play host to fifth-placed Mangotsfield United at Alvington looking to reduce the five point gap at the top of the division to just two points with leaders Bridgwater United without a game.

Last time out, a double from Jake Graziano and a goal from striker Benjani Junior saw them triumph over BRS Coaching Under-18s. However, both players are expected to be in action for their loan club, Sherborne Town this weekend, and top scorer Charlie Bateson has been sent out on loan to Tiverton Town.

The club’s other age group teams are also in action in the Junior Preier League with the Under-11s facing FC Wiltshire and the Under-12s playing Taunton Town in the Junior Premier League.

The Under-13s, Under-14s, Under-15s and Under-16s, who play as part of the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust, all take on opposition from Exeter Regional Talent Centre.

A brace from captain Jake Graziano was enough to earn Yeovil Town Under-18s a 3-2 win at BRS Coaching Youth in the South West Counties Youth League at the weekend.

The midfielder was joined on the scoresheet in Bournemouth by striker Benjani Junior with both players back in the line-up for the Underr-18s with Sherborne Town, where both have been on loan for the past few weeks, without a fixture this weekend.

That keeps the young Glovers in second place, five points behind leaders Bridgwater United having played one game fewer.

In the Junior Premier League, the club’s Under-12s picked up a win over South Somerset Regional Talent Centre but the Under-13s went down to defeat against Taunton Town.

Yeovil Town Under-18s’ participation in the South West Counties’ Youth League’s Gary Else Memorial Cup ended with a defeat at Torquay United on Saturday.

A hat-trick from their hosts’ Ben Aldous inflicted a 3-1 defeat on the young Glovers whose goal came from defender Harrison Foster and ended their involvement in the league’s round robin cup competition.

The Gulls are managed by former Glovers’ defender Ryan Dickson who took over as Under-18s’ coach from Chris Todd when he left Plainmoor to become Chris Hargreaves’ assistant at Yeovil.

The Under-18s will be looking to put the defeat behind them when they travel to Bournemouth-based BRS Coaching Youth in the league next weekend.

For the club’s other age groups, there were two wins, two defeats and a draw for the sides which play as part of the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust.

The Under-12s drew with Torquay United in the Junior Premier League whilst  the Under-14s and Under-16s won theirs against Weston-super-Mare, but the north Somerset side defeated the Glovers’ Under-13s and Under-15s.

The Under-11s were without a fixture and took part in a training session at Huish Park.
