Nearly 2000 people were in attandence to see the Yeovil Town legends, led by Gary Johnson return to the pitch in celebration of the life and career of Adam Stansfield.

Glovers fans, alongside those from around the area raised loads of money for the Adam Stansfield Foundation and played out an enthrawling 3-3 draw at Huish Park.

The South West side were 3-0 up at Half Time, but some tactical switches and some classic, old school…. urm… motivation from the gaffer inspired an almighty come back with goals from Kevin Gall (he got the ball, and scored a goal), Terry Skiverton from the spot and a last gasp equaliser from Taylor Stansfield.

Former Yeovil Town striker Kevin Gall has called on supporters from across the South West to fill Huish Park when a Glovers’ Legends side takes on a South West Legends XI in a match in memory of Adam Stansfield.

Gall and co-organiser and Yeovil fan Abby Carter have confirmed the long-awaited match will take place on Saturday, May 14 (kick-off 2pm), the day before the final National League fixture away at Altrincham.

It will raise money in memory of Stansfield, a member of the FA Trophy-winning team of 2002 who died of bowel cancer in 2010 aged just 31.

The game will also be a moment to remember many people who we have lost in recent years including Ciderspace co-founder, Martin ‘Badger’ Baker, captain Lee Collins and former staff members Stuart Housley, Bruce James, Maurice O’Donnell and Tony Trott.

Speaking to the GloverscastGall said: “This game has been two years in the making, it seems like forever but finally we are delighted we have finally got a date.

“Now it we really need everyone’s help to share it far and wide to supporters of Yeovil but all Stanno’s former clubs – Exeter City, Hereford, Elmore, and clubs from across the South West.

“It’s so important we fill Huish Park for Stanno and the unbelievable people we have lost over the last couple of years who dedicated their lives to Yeovil Town.”

He added that in the next few weeks there would be announcements around which players are turning out for both teams with a number from Yeovil’s most successful sides from years gone by expected to turn out.

Gally has also confirmed he will be bringing his boots – and has said he’ll bring back the tramlines if we can raise a good amount for the Adam Stansfield Foundation. That’s the gauntlet being thrown down, folks!

There will also be a match between a Yeovil Town Supporters’ XI and their Exeter City counterparts taking place at 10.30am on the day.

Details of tickets “will be available shortly and all previous agreements and purchases still stand“, the organisers have confirmed.

The game had been scheduled to take place in May 2020 but had to be cancelled due to restrictions around fans being allowed in Huish Park due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Adam Stansfield Foundation was set up to give young people the opportunity to develop life skills and raise awareness of illnesses caused by bowel cancer.

Former Yeovil Town forward Kevin Gall has said any of the stars of the club’s past would offer their support.

The Welshman, who scored 26 times in the teams which won the Conference in 2003 and League Two two years later, was talking about his memories of his time at Huish Park on the latest edition of the Gloverscast.

He told us: “The club has at its disposal all of us ex-players. At the drop of a hat I would come and help out in any way, whether that is talking to players or whatever and I am sure all of the other lads would, because of what Yeovil gave us as players.

“When players come to a football club, fans expect them to live and die to for the football club and that just does not happen any more, whereas when I came to Yeovil, Yeovil made me a Yeovil Town fan.

“I was not born and bred in Yeovil but I became a Yeovil fan very quickly because of what happened.”

Gall, who left to join Carlisle United in 2006 when his contract was not renewed after three-and-a-half seasons in Somerset, is now working for a sports management company run by Lee Matthews, another former Glover.

In his role, he works with a number of League players to get them in to clubs and was involved in the loan deals which saw midfielders Lewis Wing and Alex Pattison arrive  on loan at Yeovil Town from Middlesbrough in 2018.

Gall said: “I would always try and put any young player in to Yeovil because I know what the fan base is like and the area is like.
“If you’re a young player and you want to play football, going to Yeovil is a no brainer for me.”

Yeovil Town’s newest defender, Mark Little, has been tipped to be a big success by former Glovers’ forward Kevin Gall.

Speaking to the Gloverscast, the Welsh wing wizard said that he got to know Little on a recent coaching course and that he’s exactly the sort of character the club can benefit from.

“He’s honestly a really good lad, I know he’s a really good, good player as well, he’s a good professional, so people like that.”

“I know Yeovil have just lost Dicko (Carl Dickinson) and Charlie Lee – some experienced players like Mark will be a good addition”

Gall, who now works as an agent alongside former Yeovil loanee Lee Matthews, said that he has enjoyed advising younger players on a potential move to Huish Park citing Lewis Wing and Alex Pattison as recent clients to have progressed in their careers via a spell at Yeovil.

You can listen to the interview in full, on the Podcast page of the Gloverscast website or wherever you get your audio on demand, we’ve had Hugo Rodrigues as a recent guest as well as a celebration of all things Gary Johnson following the 20th anniversary of his appointment at Huish Park, be sure to subscribe for more interviews and chats in the coming weeks!

A charity match scheduled to be held at Huish Park to raise funds for a charity in memory of former Yeovil Town striker Adam Stansfield has been postponed.

Organisers Kevin Gall and Abby Carter posted on the event’s Facebook page that the “ongoing uncertainty” around the COVID-19 pandemic had caused them to delay the match until May 2022.

It had been hoped the game between a team of former Glovers’ favourites and a South West Legends XI could have been staged in pre-season of the upcoming 2021-22 season.

The statement said: “As you all know we have been working tirelessly to get this game and event on for Stanno but due to the ongoing uncertainty of Covid 19 restrictions and fans and some circumstances out of our control it looks like we will have to postpone the game from this pre-season where we hoped to stage the game until May 2022 at the end of the coming season.”

The Yeovil Town Legends team will be made up of members of the side which won promotion to the Football League in 2003 and League Two in 2013.
