Yeovil Town manager Darren Sarll has been speaking to the media ahead of the Glovers’ game against Chesterfield on Saturday and has said how proud he is of his side’s early season form, but that he – and his team are taking the season one game at a time.

“Any momentum is driven through training time, opportunity to learn, practice, repeat and drill and all of those things, that’s where our momentum has been built from”

“We’ve spoken about the construction of the squad; there’s a lot of misfits in there, people who have had two clubs in a season, so all the time we get to train and rehearse is to our benefit”

After three wins in a row, Sarll was adamant the squad aren’t getting ahead of themselves saying even in the impressive 3-0 win over Stockport, there was probably more to find.

“There were things Saturday, it was a good performance, an accomplished, professional performance, but there were still elements that absolutely have to be improved and developed”

“We have a saying in the dressing room ‘runs of one’ we only concentrate on the next game, we’re not interested in winning ten in a row, we are not interested in talking about runs, we’re not taking about going unbeaten on not conceding runs”

“One game, brutally, at a time”

Sarll spoken about how his team of ‘misfits’ were also lacking a long, hard season of experience, he named a number of his squad who hadn’t managed 40 games in a single season before who may have to, but reiterated that it was a simple case of one game at a time.

Looking ahead to the Chesterfield game, the gaffer was complimentary of the opposition, but confident his side would be ready for the challenge.

“I think what (Chesterfield boss) James (Rowe) have done is carried on those winning habits that they need to win games, I think all of our games are tough in a different way this season to last,

“This will be a tough game, they’ve recruited very powerfully and there comes an expectation with that type of recruitment”

“We will have to be very, very if we are to get anything from the game”

Middlesbrough loanee Jack Robinson is available to make his debut after a small injury whilst Matt Worthington’s suspension is also up making him available, but Sarll says he may have some tough decisions to bring them back into a winning squad.

Darren Sarll said his side’s performance in a 3-0 win at Stockport County was “right up there” during his time at the club.

The Yeovil Town boss heaped praised midfielders Dale Gorman and Josh Staunton and defender Max Hunt for their performances ay Edgeley Park.

Goals from Charlie Wakefield, a penalty from Joe Quigley and a late third from substitute Adi Yussuf wrapped up a comfortable win.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins after the game, the manager said: “I thought we were very good first half, tactically we were excellent and (Dale) Gorman and (Josh) Staunton orchestrated that performance, they were brilliant in midfield.

“We certainly deserved to be 1-0 to the good (at half-time) and we had a couple of good moments before that.

“Charlie (Wakefield) has tried to improve (the goal-scoring) part of his game in the past couple of weeks and then it was about ensuring our mentality was not to hold on for dear life.

“We were more like ‘let’s go and play again’ whilst being aware of tactical situations but let’s try and get another goal.

Of Hunt’s performance, the boss added: “I thought he was incredible. I think at the end of last year a couple of teams will have looked at Max and thought ‘maybe we can get some change out of him here.’

“But today he was fearless, he was confident and his heading from set plays was amazing.

Talk about potential new owners at Huish Park is unsettling for the club’s players, according to manager Darren Sarll.

The boss was asked about the statement issued by the Glovers’ Trust saying that two consortiums were in talks about buying the club ahead of the trip to Stockport County.

Speaking at his weekly press conference, Sarll said he had been made aware of the statement but was “not privy to anything” about the details of the discussions.

He said: “It has absolutely nothing to do with me, all I can say is it does not help the players.

“The first thing they were talking about especially on Tuesday was that and then they start thinking about ‘what if that happens?’

“Whilst they are thinking about all those permutations they are not thinking about football.

“I can control lots of things, but I can’t control these things.

“I want to enjoy my football this year and working with a group of people who are as ambitious and as focused as I am.

“The rest is down to the business owner and at the moment that is (current Chairman) Scott Priestnall and whatever happens, happens.

In a statement issued earlier in the week, the Glovers’ Trust said it has been speaking with a consortium is “in the latter part of negotiations” around a takeover with a second group is also “at an advanced stage.

Yeovil Town midfielders Dale Gorman and Tom Knowles are both doubts for the weekend’s trip to big-spending Stockport County.

Manager Darren Sarll said the pair had picked up minor injuries after playing three games in the space of a week.

Speaking at his weekly press conference, the boss said: “We had a few concerns with (Dale) Gorman and Tom Knowles, a couple of little niggly ones from three games in a short space of time.

“We will leave that until as late as possible, I would not think that any of them will train today (Thursday) and maybe not tomorrow and we will look at some alternatives, maybe a shape change.”

The boss also confirmed that on loan Middlesbrough left-back Jack Robinson would not be available for the trip to Edgeley Park.

He is expecting the player to be available for selection again from Monday when suspended midfielder Matt Worthington will be available.

The versatile Alex Bradley returned after illness to come off the substitutes’ bench for the 1-0 home win over FC Halifax Town last weekend.

There is no news on loan midfielder Lewis Simper who is yet to be seen in the team or on the bench as yet.

Yeovil Town’s Watford loanee Sonny Blu Lo-Everton was singled out for praise by Darren Sarll when speaking to BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins following the Glovers’ 1-0 win over Halifax Town on Saturday.

Lo-Everton, who started in an attacking role just in behind frontman Joe Quigley before being substituted late on for Adi Yussuf caught the eye of the sponsors who gave him the Man of the Match, and his boss was full of praise for the 18-year-old:

“He’s a brilliant footballer, he has a brilliant mind, for someone that creative he is actually a little too inquisitive because he should just trust his eyes.

“If we all saw football like Sonny did, there would be far more creative players in the country and there isn’t and that is because they don’t see the game that way, Sonny certainly does and I think as he plays more for us, he will trust more what his eyes tell him more and he’ll be even sharper, quicker and smoother.

“He never looks like he has to try hard, Sonny, he has the lovely way of making everything look easy.”

Lo-Everton has now started each of the last two games for the Glovers after coming off the bench late on vs King’s Lynn on the opening day, and whilst he is yet to complete a full 90 minutes, he’s already making a lasting impression on this Yeovil side.

Yeovil Town Manager Darren Sarll has been speaking to the media following the Glovers’ 1-0 win over FC Halifax Town live on BT Sport on Saturday evening.

both the BT Sport team and BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins, Sarll praised the ‘character’ and ‘robustness’ of his side, who, despite the one-goal margin of victory looked fairly comfortable for large parts.

Speaking to BT Straight after the final whistle he said: “I thought tactically we were excellent, even in periods of the second half when we were defending deeper, our shape was good and I can’t remember too many moments when (Grant Smith) had to make too many big saves.
“That was testament to the two full backs (Dan Moss and Jordan Barnett) in particular.”

Something he reiterated to the the BBC shortly after with some added praise for Max Hunt; “I thought we dealt with most things well, in the second half we had to defend a bit deeper and I thought even then the shape was very strong.

“I thought the two young full backs (Dan Moss and Jordan Barnett) were absolutely fantastic and that is probably Max Hunt’s best game for the club.”

The only goal of the game came from the penalty spot, Joe Quigley smashing the ball home after Tom Knowles was brought down in the box.

But, it’s not just the in-form striker’s goals that are impressing the gaffer:

“He was okay, I thought defensively he was very good, he contributes a hell of a lot and he is getting better, but he has a home now, Yeovil is his home and we do not throw people away and it is important that people feel that comfort and that we have got their backs when they come to work.”

“He is in good form and he’s a real big plus for us and if he stays fit we might have half a chance”

Overall, Sarll was pleased with how he side coped with the second half onslaught from Halifax who tried to get back into the game late on, but a resolute performance from the defence and central midfield duo in particular were enough to see the game out.

“I thought we were better in possession than Halifax, I thought we were better out of possession, our shape was very good, the players’ attitude was magnificent.
“I thought we were comfortable and deserved (the win), the only disappointment was the couple of chances (for substitute Adi Yussuf) which we should have taken to make the game a bit easier.

Sarll confirmed to the BBC he wouldn’t be thinking about next Saturday’s trip to Stockport County until Monday, suggesting he, the players and the fans have all got a night or two to enjoy a fantastic Glovers win.

The addition of a sports scientist to the coaching staff is helping Yeovil Town’s players be more “robust“, according to manager Darren Sarll.

Scott Wickens joined the set-up at Huish Park during pre-season after a horrendous run of injuries saw the Glovers without key players for large periods of last season.

The manager said: “(Scott) has been excellent, a really good addition. His work on the grass and in the gym, which is where we wanted him because we wanted the players to be a bit more robust has been excellent.

“He is a nice lad, a young man with ambition and I’m sure he’ll go on to have a good career because he has that self-belief.

However, the boss was taking the credit for the players’ recovery following the 2-1 defeat at home to King’s Lynn Town last Saturday.

He sent them to Lyme Regis for a paddle in the “therapeutic waters” off the Dorset coast ahead of the trip to Aldershot Town on Monday, where they ran out 2-1 winners.

Sarll said: “I knew after Saturday that physically on Monday we would be better.

“I said to Scott after the game, we looked less fit Saturday than we did in that first friendly at Stratford.

“I knew we would be better and we were on Sunday when we trained and get the mistakes of the day before out of our system.

Yeovil Town manager Darren Sarll has said the club’s finances are left to Chairman Scott Priestnall.

The boss was asked by the Gloverscast reporter Ben Barrett about the club’s announcement of a new £112,000 loan from Sport England at his weekly press conference ahead of the weekend’s fixture against FC Halifax Town.

He said: “There are people at the club like Scott (Priestnall) and James Hillier (the stadium manager) to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’. That is the dynamic.

Chairman Scott Priestnall, left, with manager Darren Sarll on a previous occasion.

“I have no idea about the economic state of the organisation, that is their job to worry about those types of things.

“My job is to source the best players as cheaply as we can and get as much out of them as we can, win with him, maybe sell them as we have done in recent years.

“If I start crossing over to that other side, that is quite dangerous for a manager.

As we reported earlier in the week, the club confirmed it has increased the amount it owes to Sport England to  £801,538.

In a statement, the club said the additional finance will will cover “lost revenue from last season’s lockdown period” enabling it to pay “costs and creditors from last season.”

The statement was published after the new charge was made public through a Companies House filing made by Yeovil Town Holdings Limited, signed by Chairman Scott Priestnall and Director Glenn Collis.

Alex Bradley could be back in contention for this weekend’s televised fixture against FC Halifax Town at Huish Park.

The versatile player has missed the opening two matches of the season through injury and manager Darren Sarll said he is hopeful he will be available for selection at the weekend.

Speaking ahead of the game, the boss said: “I would like to think that Alex Bradley will be back in contention on Saturday after injury, it depends how late we can get him back in to training.

“I am not prepared to take a risk on someone like Alex just to get that fifth substitute on the bench.

Alex Bradley is sent off at Aldershot Town last season – it’s the only picture we had of him!

However, he added that there were no new injuries picked up in the 2-1 win at Aldershot Town on Monday with many players who played twice over the Bank Holiday weekend being given two days off training this week.

Sarll said he was still looking to bring “another couple” of players in to the squad.

He added: “We were close on one yesterday (Wednesday) but something turned for the worse and we were not able to get it done.”

Left-back Jack Robinson, who signed from Championship Middlesbrough ahead of the opening game defeat to King’s Lynn last weekend, will not be fit for Saturday.

The managers said: “We don’t know when he will be available, he rolled his ankle in his second session and it didn’t reduce in swelling and he did not recover so we are being precautionary with him.

“I don’t know when he’ll be back, I would like to say next Saturday away at Stockport.

“He will be a big player for us when he is because he is a wonderful passer of the ball and maybe allows us to play (Jordan) Barnett a bit further forward.”

Yeovil Town manager Darren Sarll praised his side for a “robust and charismatic” performance following the Glovers 2-1 win over Aldershot.

During the gaffer’s post match comments to BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins, Sarll named-checked just about the entire team with Millwall loanee Dan Moss, Charlie Wakefield, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Luke Wilkinson and Dale Gorman all singled out.

But, it was Joe Quigley’s brace which stood out for many including Sarll who said that the team were ‘hanging their hat’ on Quigley up front and that he was stepping up to the plate.

Sarll said: “His next step is to be ‘that guy’, we’ve seen plenty of them at this football club. His work rate was excellent, we are seeing a better relationship with him and the other players and his qualities.”

There was plenty of talk about how well the side banded together after defeat on Saturday, but there was plenty of praise for the fans who enjoyed another special moment after the final whistle.

“Great to have that rapport back with them (the fans). It probably started here… we enjoy winning here, we worked very hard to try and win and today was a very robust and charismatic performance.”

“I was it a really great moment, really great with Lee and the flag (the players spent time with supporters displaying a supporter’s banner in memory of Lee Collins) all these things make it that little more extra special, I thought the character of the players today and the physical performance of the players was quite incredible”.

Yeovil Town next face Halifax Town on Saturday with a 17:15 kick off on the dreaded BT sport.
