Second League Win For Women’s Team

Yeovil Town Women picked up their second South West Regional Women’s Premier Division win of the season on Sunday, earning a 3-2 victory away at Poole Town.

The Dolphins broke the deadlock early on, but Izzy Foster’s hat-trick gave the Glovers a commanding lead in Dorset, and despite a second goal for the hosts, they hung on for all three points.

There were less than ten minutes on the clock when a corner was recycled by the home side and Lucy Coalter’s cross-shot looped in over goalkeeper Emily Hall.

But Foster got her first when Poole goalkeeper Bebe Smith’s punch fell nicely to her in the box, and she tucked it into the bottom corner.

And when Lily Charles pulled the ball back to her from the right, Foster’s first-time finish turned things around before the break.

There was more to come after the interval. Just before the hour mark, Holly Meakins pounced on a defensive lapse, and Foster took full advantage to lash home her third.

There were chances to add more to the scoreline, with Meakins testing the reflexes of Smith from distance, but it was Poole who struck next with a fantastic strike from Cassie Wood.

Jodi Cornwall came close to putting the result beyond doubt, taking the ball down on her chest from a corner and firing a volley at goal, but it clipped the outside of the post.

In the end, Foster’s three goals were enough for the Glovers to claim their second consecutive win over Poole, following last week’s penalty shootout success in the FA Cup.

Next up for Dave Court’s side is a home clash against league leaders Portishead, taking place at Alvington on Sunday with a 2pm kick-off.
