A late Jordan Thomas goal secured Yeovil Town’s first piece of silverware of the season as they lifted the Ted Pearce Memorial Trophy with victory at Farnborough Town.
The full-back, who made his first appearance since arriving from Hampton & Richmond in the summer as a second half substitute, clipped a neat past keeper Jack Turner with three minutes remaining to seal the win.
The performance could not be described as a polished one from the visitors who found themselves a goal behind when a trialist gave Farnborough the lead on 67 minutes.
That sparked Yeovil in to life with substitute Dylan Morgan pulling them level again following a lovely run and finish after 75 minutes before Thomas sealed the win late on.
Up until Thomas’ goal, the game had been set to go to a penalty shoot-out to decide the winners of the trophy, named after a former Farnborough manager.
First half
It was Farnborough who asked a lot of early questions with a couple of long throws in to the box causing problems. The first meaningful effort of the game came after eight minutes when on loan Wycombe Wanderers’ midfielder Taylor Clark met a long throw and Glovers’ keeper Ollie Wright had to have his wits about him to keep the effort out.
Two minutes later a loose pass from Charlie Cooper on the edge of the hosts’ box was intercepted Ricky Holmes who broke away before being brought down by Frank Nouble, who got a booking for his troubles. The resulting free-kick from Olly Pendlebury forced another save from Wright.
Having chased shadows for much of the opening 15 minutes, the Glovers had a five-minute period of good possession before a 20th minute drinks’ break. Whilst looking more in control just before the break, there was not much going forward for travelling fans to get excited about with Aaron Jarvis looking isolated as the lone frontman.
Following the restart, neat flick from Sonny Blu Lo-Everton following a forward pass from Finn Cousin-Dawson set Michael Smith up to swing a boot on the edge of the box, but his effort was blocked. That is as good as it has got so far.
Smith was at the heart of another good move just after the half-hour mark, putting a ball up to the back post where Alex Whittle was arriving but the left-back could not get ahead of his marker to trouble Jack Turner in the Farnborough goal.
With a minute of the first half remaining, Holmes forced another smart stop from Wright before strike partner Mason Bloomfield put a close range header wide a minute later.

Yeovil’s best chance of the first half came a minute in to injury time. A neat through ball by Jarvis set Nouble bearing down on goal, he went round the keeper but could not steer his effort in from a tight angle.
A better end to the half than the start, but still nothing to get too excited about.

Second half

Three minutes in to the second half, Charlie Cooper went down and had to be replaced by Brett McGavin.
A nice move involving Smith and Young just evaded the head of Jarvis before Pendlebury fizzed a 60th minute free-kick just wide of Ollie Wright’s left-hand post.
Following a drinks’ break, Farnborough took the lead on 67 minutes. A clipped ball to the back post found TRIALIST C at the back post and he headed past the despairing grasp of Wright.
Just before going behind, there were five changes for Yeovil. They included a first appearance for Jordan Thomas, who replaced Michael Smith at right-back, alongside trialist Brandon Haunstrup, Sam Pearson, Dylan Morgan and Harvey Greenslade also coming on. They replaced Whittle, Jarvis, Nouble and Lo-Everton.
On 75 minutes, the Glovers levelled courtesy of a virtuoso goal from Dylan MORGAN. He broke down the left side and into the box before coolly slotting home the equaliser. Well ignore what looked like a shove in the back from Matt Worthington at the start purely because of what a great run and finish it is from Morgan.
That seemed to liven the game up and on 80 minutes Pearson broke away on the counter attack before laying it off to Greenslade who scuffed his effort.
But with three minutes remaining, Jordan THOMAS was found by a near through ball from Harvey Greenslade nearly dinked it Farnborough keeper Jack Turner.
The trophy lift was not quite on a par with the end of last season (!) with travelling supporters at Cherrywood Road understandably doing it with a little more emotion. Champions again, right!?
