It’s back to Huish Park this Saturday and Yeovil Town’s clash against Halifax will be referee’d by Mr Jason Richardson.

Mr Richardson has been in charge of just a couple of National League games so far this season including a feisty game between Eastleigh and Fylde.

Six goals, eight yellow cards, one red card and two penalties kicks.

As far as I can tell, he’s never taken charge of a Yeovil game before, but he has reffed one Halifax Town game, a snoozefest of a 0-0 draw against Dorking Wanderers in March 2023.

He’ll be assisted by Martin Bloor (who was assistant for the home game against Ebbsfleet) and Mark Senior (who was assistant for the Solihull home game) whilst Phillip Eddie (who was also holding a sub’s board for the Ebbsfleet game) is on fourth official duties.

It’s been a while since the Glovers were back in action and finally, Yeovil can go back in search of three points this weekend.

But as ever, we need some officials and here’s who will be taking charge of the game against Southend.

Abigail Byrne will be tasked with keeping everything in order, she’s only refereed a handful of games at domestic level this season, including two in National League; dishing out six yellow cards a piece in two games at this level.

She’s done some EFL Trophy ties and some Under 21s games too.

But, most recently she’s been part of an English officiating team at the FIFA Under 17s Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic (I mean, there are worse places to referee a football match!) most recently acting as Fourth Official for the clash between Nigeria and the host nation on October 22nd.

She’s never taken charge of a Yeovil game, but did oversee a rather underwhelming 2-1 win for Southend over Maidenhead last season.

Arguably, her most high profile appointment came in 2013 when she was in charge of SoccerAid at a packed out Old Trafford where the Rest of the World beat England to win the trophy and raise a boat load of cash for UNICEF along the way.

If you can keep up with the pace of play with Usain Bolt in the team, I don’t think any of our lot will cause much hassle.

Abigail will be assisted by Laurentiu Hantea and Graham Swanton, with Tommy Breen in charge of the dugouts.

… at least he can’t be as bad as the ref we had on Tuesday.

The Glovers are back at Huish Park for the visit of Maidenhead United this coming Saturday afternoon and we have Mr William Davies in charge.

Davies has never taken charge of a Yeovil game with most of his games taking place in the North and Midlands.

He’s officiated seven National League Premier games this season.

He’s dished out 24 yellows and zero red cards.

He was though in charge of a feisty clash between Everton U21s and their counterparts from Reading. The game was 3-0 to Everton with 72 minutes on the clock (including a goal from the penalty spot, below) but a Verrell George Hat Trick drew the game level, including a 90th minute incident which saw Toffee’s youngster Harrison Armstrong sent off.

Mr Davies will be assisted by Adam Ricketts and Sean Rothwell with Samuel Fudge making his THIRD Huish Park appearance of the season.

It’s one of football’s age old questions, can you do it on a cold, wet Tuesday night in Tamworth?

Let’s hope the Glovers can.

One man who definitely can is our match referee for the evening John Mulligan.

At time of writing, he’s taken charge of three National League games this season and dished out a whopping 19 yellow cards.

Mainly based in the north, Mr Mulligan has NEVER taken charge of either a Yeovil or a Tamworth game, which makes this preview quite tricky, but as this season represents his second at the level, we wont hold it against him.

Speaking of his promotion to this level, his boss at the Cumbrian FA said;

“We are so pleased for John, as he has gained a fully deserved FA promotion to Level 2a.

“Having missed out as part of the mid-season promotion, John worked even harder on his game over the past few months, which highlights his commitment to refereeing.

“John is one of our county Centre of Refereeing Excellence (CORE) group coaches and we often talk about resilience to younger referees and those wishing to progress from grassroots level. John is the perfect example of that attribute.

Mr Mulligan will be assisted by the tastiest sounding linesman on the circuit Matt Bacon with Ryan McIlravey also waving a flag about. Jake Allsopp is making the half time teas… and other important Fourth Official Business.

Right, the FA Cup is done, time to concentrate on the league, right? Good.

Yeovil head to Wealdstone on Saturday and we’re going to need a referee.

Mr Sam Mulhall is our official for the game, he’s refereed Yeovil three times in his life… but it could have been four, more on that in a moment.

The last time we saw Mr Mulhall, was when we beat Gateshead 3-1 at Huish Park in November 2022, he only booked Matt Worthington on that occasion, all good.

He was though, also in charge for a 1-0 defeat to Southend a month or so prior to that, he sent of Gime Toure for *checks notes* an “off the ball incident”.

Referee Sam Mulhall shows Gime Toure a red card

There was also a 0-0 against Wealdstone that same season, he sent off Lewis Kinsella after just nine minutes for kicking Malachi Linton and gave the Glovers a late penalty, Linton stepped up, but put the spot kick into a neighbouring borough of London. Eurgh.

Referee Sam Mulhall sends Lewis Kinsella off for a VERY early bath.

Now, onto that game he NEARLY refereed.

Mr Mulhall was subject of a ‘formal complaint’ by Yeovil Town after he made a decision to call off a home game against Altrincham in January 2023.

The Glovers had a ‘heater’ on one area of the penalty area in front of the Thatchers Stand and that was deemed troublesome enough for Mr Mulhall to send the Lancashire-based side back up north and looking forward to a midweek trip in Somerset.

Awkward.

Mulhall will be assisted by Daniel Robinson, Andy Bennett and Daniel Baines is in the fourth official’s chair.

It’s time to turn our attention to the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round and the Glovers head to Chesham to play for a spot in the first round proper.

Our officials for the game have been confirmed and it’s Mr Scott Tallis who will take charge.

Mr Tallis has been mainly an EFL Referee for this current season, but is well versed in the National League set up… and refereeing Yeovil Town games.

He’s officiated the Glovers six times, and fairly oddly has awarded us four penalties in that time.

The last time we saw him was not a good experience though, it was the 2-1 defeat to Scunthorpe on the opening day of the 2022/23 season – Chris Hargreaves’ first competitive fixture in charge.

He was also in the middle for a sublime Joe Quigley hat trick against Solihull Moors and Quigley benefitted again when he scored from the spot after Luke Wilkinson had been booted into the air by an Aldershot defender early in the 2021-22 season.

Mr Tallis will be assisted by Grant Taylor, Niall Fenton and Ashley Clarke is on fourth official duties.

Mr Tallis decides that kicking Luke Wilkinson really hard, is a foul. Quite right too.

After a full week’s break, Yeovil Town welcome both Dagenham and Redbridge to Huish Park this Saturday.

The Daggers, hot off the heels of their first game in the Temu Trophy or whatever they’re calling it, will be looking to win their first match against Yeovil since the back end of the 2021/22 season.

So, who is charge of the game?

Mr Ross Martin is.

Martin, is a referee who has never officiated a Yeovil game that hasn’t ended in a win for the Glovers, three games as referee – three green and white wins.

The most recent of these came on Boxing Day last year, when he took charge of Yeovil’s 4-1 rout over Taunton Town.

He booked the Peacock’s midfielder Nick McCootie in the 85th minute… twice! Quick fire yellows became a red and McCootie was off!

He also jotted the names of Matt Worthington, Charlie Cooper and Joe Day on that occasion.

He was also the man in the middle for home wins over Aveley and St Albans in the same season,.

He will be assisted by Stuart Kane and Kevin Morris (side note: Mr Morris was also flag waving for the Altrincham home game) whilst Daniel Flynn is in charge of keeping the dugouts in order.

Back to Huish Park we go this Saturday and the man charged with keeping tabs on Yeovil Town vs Aldershot Town is Robert Massey-Ellis.

Mr Massey-Ellis comes from an officiating family, his wife, Sian Massey-Ellis has officiated in all match day roles at the highest levels across the men’s and women’s games.

Do you think they talk about refereeing at the Sunday dinner table and hand out household yellow cards if the he doesn’t do the washing up properly or she doesn’t put the bin out on the right day? No, probably not.

Anyway, enough of that, Rob Massey-Ellis has refereed two National League games so far this season, both at ‘W’ teams; Wealdstone and Woking dishing out seven yellows across the two.

He also took charge of a feisty Premier League 2 game between Arsenal and Aston Villa with TWO players sent off for violent conduct… don’t be bringing any of that shenanigans to the National League Cup, will you lads!?

In terms of Yeovil fixtures, he’s only refereed us twice – both at Huish Park.

A 0-0 draw with Maidenhead in the 2022/23 season, where Messrs Bevan, Reckord and Oluwabori were booked, and the season before that a 1-1 with Dover Athletic with Adi Yussuf the only Glovers’ goal scorer and only Glover in the book, as well. – We’ve seen it back and we’re still not sure he touches’ the ball whipped in by Jordan Barnett…

The main talking point though was a late incident where Tom Knowles suffered a concussion after – what can only be described as a WWE-Style Power Slam by Danny Collenge – check the highlights out below and let us know what you think? Darren Sarll called the Dover defender “Hulk Hogan” after the game and was stunned there wasn’t a red-card issued!

Rob Massey-Ellis explains to Alex Bradley why he’s not going to send off Hulk Hogan for his body slam on Tom Knowles.

Yeovil Town head to Sutton United for a midweek clash and the Referee assigned to the game is Mr Callum Walchester.

HANG ON A MINUTE!

I know that name… you know that name, that’s right he’s our first occurrence of repeat referee this season.

Mr Walchester was in charge of the Glovers’ first win of the campaign, a 1-0 win over Braintree in August.

If you recall, he dished out four yellow cards on that occasion; Mr Jarvis and Mr Nouble got in a spot on trouble, on your best behaviour, lads!

He also ruled out a Sam Pearson goal after something of a scramble in the second half, but a foul on Aaron Jarvis squandered that one and there was no real arguments from anyone in Green and White.

He does have some new friends with him this time though, he’s got Stuart Butler and Stephen Brown waving flags and Adam Merchant waving subs boards.

There’s Mr Walchester, top right… keeping an eager eye on any shenanigans in the box.

Matt Robinson strikes at goal for Braintree.

Yeovil Town head north this Saturday, to Boundary Park, Oldham to be precise and as we all know, you can’t have a game of professional football without a referee.

Thankfully, we have one lined up – Mr Paul Marsden.

Mr Marsden has been in charge of a trio of National League games so far this season and hasn’t been afraid to reach into his pocket.

19 yellow cards (although two were for the same Hartlepool player) is a fair return.

We haven’t seen Mr Marsden since the behind-closed-doors era, he took charge of a rather uneventful 2-0 win over Altrincham at Huish Park were Messrs Murphy and Dagnall scored Yeovil goals.

If you the calendar way back, he could also be found awarding a penalty to Macclesfield Town – against Yeovil – in November 2018. Tom James breathed a bit too heavily on Elliot Durrell and down he went (See below). Former Glover Michael Rose did the rest from the spot.

Given his location, it’s no surprise he’s taken charge of more Oldham games, including twice last season.

He will be assisted by Jack Nield and Thomas Harland, whilst Ben Robinson is the fourth official for the game.
