Yeovil Town manager Darren Sarll has handed league debuts to four summer signings  against King’s Lynn Town at Huish Park (3pm kick-off).

Goalkeeper Grant Smith, full-back Jordan Barnett and midfielders Dale Gorman and Charlie Wakefield are all named in the starting eleven for the opening National League fixture.

Fellow new arrivals striker Adi Yussuf and loanees Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Dan Moss start on the bench.

Ex-Glovers’ striker Gold Omotayo starts for the visitors who are looking for their first points of the season after an opening day defeat to Southend United last weekend.

Yeovil Town: Smith, Wilkinson, Williams, Hunt, Barnett, Worthington, Staunton, Gorman, Wakefield, Knowles, Quigley. Subs: Evans (GK), Stephens, Lo-Everton, Moss, Yussuf.

King’s Lynn: Jones, Denton, Fernandez, Callan-McFadden, Bird, Barrows, Clunan, Coleman, Omotayo, Linton, Rowley. Subs: Bowry, Sundrie, Gyasi, McGavin, Gascoigne.

Lawson D’Ath is undergoing  treatment at Huish Park as he bids to return to fitness after suffering a knee injury.

Manager Darren Sarll has confirmed the 28-year-old has had surgery over the summer on the injury sustained in the final game of last season against Stockport County.

He said he hoped to have the former Northampton Town man available for selection in January when he is also hoping that injured striker Reuben Reid and defender Mark Little will be available again.

Sarll said: “I have this lovely vision that in January I will have a fit Mark Little, a fit Reuben Reid and a fit Lawson D’Ath.

“Lawson is at the club now, having treatment on a daily basis, he is still living in Yeovil and we are taking care of his accommodation and his treatment.

“I am desperate for Lawson to get back in our shirt and play because at the end of last year I saw a different Lawson, there was a maturity to him.

“He is a very good player, so Scott (Priestnall, the club chairman) if you are listening, I want Lawson for January!”

Three unnamed trialists appeared for Yeovil Town in today’s 1-0 pre-season friendly  defeat against League Two Forest Green Rovers.

However, we have positive identifications on QPR forward Deshane Dalling and former Aberdeen central defender Harlain Mbayo who both appeared in the win at Stratford Town last weekend.

That leaves a left-back who came on after 70 minutes as one of five changes made by boss Darren Sarll – which the Gloverscast understands is Jack Bodenham, a defender recently in the youth set up at Cardiff City.

Tom Bodenham – confirmed ID.

We’ve attached a picture taken by Glovers’ supporter Chris Fox of the player in question, who was being called “Jack” by his team-mates throughout the game.

And then, courtesy of Jack Bodenham’s own Twitter account is a picture of the player himself – which we can assume is a pretty positive identification!

The Welshman has been in Cardiff’s youth set-up since he was 14 and captained the club’s under-23s in the 2019-20 season.

He has had spells on loan at League of Wales side The New Saints in January 2019 and then again at National League North side Hereford in 2019-20.

He was released by Cardiff in the summer.

Bodenham is listed as playing centre-back on many of the online references to him, but was definitely playing down the left against Forest Green.

Former Yeovil Town loan striker Olufela Olomola has signed for League Two new boys Hartlepool United after a successful trial.

The 23-year-old, who was released by Scunthorpe United at the end of last season, played in a 1-0 friendly defeat against Spennymoor United on Tuesday night alongside another former Glovers’ loanee, goalkeeper Adam Smith.

Olomola also scored four times in a 9-1 victory over Northern Premier League Division One West side Runcorn Linnets last weekend.

Pools’ boss Dave Challinor said: “Fela has come in and earned a deal.

“He’s looked sharp in training, took his goals well, granted against lower opposition but has looked a threat.

“We now have to work with him to get out of him what we need over the coming weeks.

“Undoubtedly with the delivery and quality we have in wide areas we will create chances and if he keeps putting himself in the right positions he’ll get opportunities to score.”

Reports in Northern Ireland suggest Glentoran midfielder Dale Gorman will become Yeovil Town’s latest signing next week.

The Belfast Telegraph has reported the 25-year-old  will join from the NIFL Premiership outfit on a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Gorman is known to Glovers’ boss Darren Sarll having played for him at Stevenage where he had a three-year spell playing 62 times.

The Ulsterman was also part of the Leyton Orient side which won promotion to the Football League, playing 22 times for them in the 2018-19 campaign.

He returned to Northern Ireland in September 2020 scoring two goals in 29 appearances last year.

Liverpool midfielder Harry Kewell dived to earn a penalty which ended Yeovil Town‘s hopes of an FA Cup shock in 2004, according to former Glovers’ defender Hugo Rodrigues.

In an interview with the Gloverscast broadcast yesterday, the giant defender spoke about the moment in 77th minute of the third round tie when the Australian tumbled in the box.

Hugo told us: “When I came to Yeovil the gaffer (Gary Johnson) said to me ‘if you fall down, you must be dead’.

“If it was an English guy I don’t think he would have done that, it is your culture, you don’t dive.

“Everyone wants to see the English game and the fair way you play is a part of that, you play with loyalty to the fans and respect to the opponent.”

Of the penalty decision, he added: “In that situation, he should have gone to the referee and said it was not a penalty. It is football, it is not basketball where you can’t touch a player.”

In commentary on the televised match, Sir Trevor Brooking said of Kewell’s reaction: “I don’t think there’s a lot of challenge there, he’s thrown himself forward. I don’t like to see that, but it’s a penalty given.”

Following the tie, Kewell denied diving telling the club’s website: “If a defender touches a striker in the box it’s a penalty.”

The Premier League giants were 1-0 ahead through a goal from substitute Emile Heskey at the moment of the incident and went on to win the tie 2-0.

You can draw your own conclusion by watching the incident on Yeovil Town’s YouTube channel, with the incident happening at 75 minutes and 40 seconds.

A new shirt sponsor for Yeovil Town has been confirmed and will be announced next week, the club’s chairman Scott Priestnall has confirmed.

In a series of posts responding to questions from supporters on his Twitter account, he said the sponsor “will be agreed this week.”

Yeovil Town chairman Scott Priestnall has confirmed he has been “approached by a group to buy the club.”

In a lengthy series of posts on his Twitter account, he also confirmed that he was been speaking with “various people” about investing in the club and land around Huish Park.

The tweets followed questions from supporters about the creation of a new business, Max Mae Limited, at registered at the stadium.

In other tweets, the chairman told supporters the new business was not linked to his plans club the club – see here.
