Cardiff City academy product Caleb Hughes has joined Yeovil Town until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been a free agent since his release from the Welsh side at the end of last season.

He signed professional terms with Cardiff on his 17th birthday and was described by then-academy boss James McCarthy as “a hard working, energetic centre midfielder with a good range of passing and good quality from set pieces.

In his interview with the club, he confirmed he had been training with the squad for “about a month“, he added: ”

With club captain Matt Worthington expected to be missing following an injury picked up in the 0-0 draw at Tamworth on Tuesday night, he brings extra options for manager Mark Cooper in the midfield position.

Announcing the signing on Friday evening, Yeovil said he had represented Cardiff at Under-18s and Under-21s with a loan spell at Haverfordwest in the Welsh League Premier Division, making seven appearances in the 2021/22 season.

The statement concludes: “Come watch Caleb make his debut at Huish Park tomorrow as the Glovers take on Maidenhead United.” Which suggests he will be involved in National League Premier Division action fairly swiftly.

Welcome to Somerset, Caleb!
