It’ll be of no great surprise that Yeovil Town fans and players were quick to take to social media to post their reaction to the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round win over the seagull botherers down the road.. here are some of the best of them, including THAT penalty kick video that James Healey sent viral!

AND Finally…

You mean… this one, Tom

We at the Gloverscast are pretty sure you’ve heard, Yeovil beat W*ymouth in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round – on penalties.

After the game, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton spoke to the BBC about the topsy turvey game and the Watford loanee couldn’t quite believe what had happened.

“We’ve come to their ground and played the way we wanted to play, we’ve dominated the whole game, we’ve had more chances than them, stopped more chances than them, but the cross in the eighty-something minute (87th if anyone cares) was tough to take, and you can see the charachter of the boys to keep fighting for the extra 30 minutes and for the penalty as well”

The game ebbed and flowed, with the Glovers having, and spurning, chances, penalty claims waved away and yet more ‘was it over the line’ moments for Yeovil attackers, but after all was said and done, it was Yeovil who progressed through on spot-kicks, which led to briliant scenes between fans and players, something which the attacker says he’ll never forget.

“Just to see the fans, the atmosphere was unreal, I’ve never played in a game like it…”

“We have a ‘fight to the end’ charachter in this team… we performed well and got the result, that’s all that matters.
“You can tell that the dressing room we’re buzzing, we needed a win like this to kick back our season again as we haven’t got a result since Stockport away”

“It’s so good playing in from of them (the fans), the noise, the songs, it’s great and when you can celebrate with them like that… it’s so good!”

Yeovil Town will play either Yate Town or Dover in the First Round of the FA Cup

Yeovil Town secured their place in the 1st round of the FA Cup by beating W*ymouth on penalties on Tuesday night – I’m sure you’ve heard.

However, who the Glovers play hasn’t yet been decided after Yate Town and Dover couldn’t complete their own replay after floodlight failure.

The floodlights were fixed – specifically at 20:34pm (this matters) – but the game did not take place, Dover went home and will have to try again on a date yet to be confirmed – but likely, next Tuesday, 26th of October.

Yate Town were not happy releasing the following statement after the game…

“This evening we suffered a failure of two of the eight floodlight groups.
The facilities manager assisted by Jeff Michael (the manager’s dad) and Shaun Base all qualified electricians, diagnosed the problem and attempted a repair.
Both teams and the referee, in dialogue with the FA, agreed to delay KO as late as possible.
Decision points were initially set for 19:45 and 20:15 at which times the repair was ongoing.
The referee consulted with the FA, and agreed with both teams that if the floodlights could be repaired he would need to allow 30 minutes before KO for the teams and officials to warm up.
It was therefore agreed that if the floodlights could not be repaired and turned on by 20:30 the match would be postponed. At 20:34 the lights were fixed, the referee consulted with the FA to seek agreement that the match could go ahead, the FA confirmed this providing both teams were happy.
With a crowd of over 580 supporters, including some who had made the journey from Kent, the referee spoke to both teams to get agreement for the match to go ahead.
Yate were content to play, however Dover Athletic stated that it was past the 20:30 deadline and therefore they were not prepared to play.
We sincerely apologise to all supporters for the frustration they experienced this evening. We would also like to thank you all wholeheartedly for your patience and understanding and for remaining in high spirits despite the weather and the delay.
The FA direction is that the match will now have to be re-arranged, possibly later this week or next Tuesday.
We will let you all know as soon as a date is agreed. All tickets purchased this evening remain valid for the re-arranged game.”

If you don’t love the FA Cup after everything that happened on Tuesday night, then I’m afraid we can’t be friends…

Yeovil Town manager Darren Sarll.

Yeovil Town Manager Darren Sarll has been speaking to BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins following a quite frankly bonkers night in the FA Cup.

The Glovers progressed through to the first round proper after beating W*ymouth 2-1 on penalties.

You can read the round up of the carnage here.

Following the game, Sarll said that he would have loved to have had the game finished off sooner, (our fingernails, would agree, Darren!)

“We didn’t take some of the chances we created in normal time and Joe (Quigley)’s penalty [in the 120th minute] was a disappointment, we could have just settled it.

Then the penalties went our way, their way, our way, their way, our way, their way  – RETAKE – their way, our way, their way*… so… it’s a ridiculous night”

There was pandemonium at the end as fans and players celebrated after the full time whistle, something Sarll won’t forget in a hurry.

“It’s a wonderful experience for these young people to have, and the performance was good… we played very well tonight, the only fault I have is that we didn’t take more chances, I thought the attacking play was good.”

“It was a good one (moment with the fans at the end), I just wish it was done sooner, we could have been done and tucked up in bed, it was a really taxing evening”

Yeovil will travel to either Yate Town or Dover in the first round, and will play Grimsby away on Saturday in the league.

* that was NOT easy to transcribe

You’re probably thinking to yourself, “I’m sure i’ve read this preview before”…. and you’d be right, you have, I’ve just switched a few names around and left it as it was for the first tie… I’m a busy guy, dont judge, alright.

Anyway…

First thing is first – Tickets for Glovers fans appear to be SOLD OUT, because you’re a crazy/brilliant (delete as appropriate) bunch, for the lucky 800 or so who are heading to the sea side, the Ciderspace Away Guide has been put together, by Hugh – legend.

W*ymouth Yeovil make the short journey up down the A37 in worse form than the W*ymouth Yeovil Town side they will face in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round (replay) tie at Huish Park on Saturday  The Bob Lucas Stadium on Tuesday, following their 1-1 draw at the weekend.

Having avoided the drop straight back to National League South after relegation was cancelled last season, the Terras picked up a couple of impressive wins including a 4-3 victory at Solihull Moors where they were 4-1 up.

But that victory on September 4 was there last with five defeats and two draws, leaking 15 goals in the process.

To trot out the cliches, this is a local derby and an FA Cup tie to boot though, and therefore we can assume the form book is headed somewhere out the window – that’s the theory at least.

Another record which is not lost on manager Brian Stock is that it’s been 14 seasons since the seagull botherers made the competitions first round.

Talking to the Dorset Echo, the boss said: “That’s something we discussed at the start of the season.

“What a great achievement it would be if we were to do that this year and knock out our local rivals. I don’t think it would be much better than that.

“It’s going to be a tough game, they’re a good team. If it was me as player, I’d be looking forward to it.

“It’s a special cup and one we’re looking to try and progress as far as we can in.

“The prize money means a lot to the club but this tie goes beyond prize money. There’s a little more at stake for everyone connected to the club.

FROM THE MANAGER (before the first tie)

Having woken up to the fact this match is actually a derby having seemingly missed the fact after his side were turned over 3-0 on home soil in last season’s National League fixture in January, boss Brian Stock reckons his side owe the Glovers one.

He said: “We’ve put in two disappointing performances in the league and we’re looking to rectify that.

“What an atmosphere that’s going to be. There’s no easy game but given the local derby at Yeovil it’s one I’m definitely looking forward to.

“Usually revenge isn’t necessarily spoken about when teams beat you in the past but I suppose it’s something slightly different here because it’s Yeovil.

“It’s one that means a lot to the supporters. I’m sure it will be the talk of the town at the moment. It’s an exciting time.”

TEAM NEWS (before the first game)

Central defender Ben Morgan is W*ymouth manager Brian Stock’s only injury concern heading in to the weekend.

The summer signing from Gloucester City has not featured since the televised draw at home to Dover Athletic almost a month ago having suffered an Achilles injury.

Update ahead of the replay

It is thought that Brandon Goodship, ex Glover and Southend striker, may be struggling for fitness with a back problem and could be ruled out.

A FOOT IN BOTH CAMPS

As you’d imagine, there could be an awful lot of these, so we’ll keep the run-down to players likely to be involved at the weekend.

Brandon Goodship is (no longer) likely (see above) to be in the starting XI for W*ymouth and played eight times for Darren Way’s Yeovil in 2017, scoring a crucial goal in a 1-0 win at Dagenham & Redbridge which helped keep us in the League.

He was released at the end of that campaign and dropped down to the Wessex Stadium where he scored 38 goals in his first season and 39 in his second campaign in the Southern League Premier earning him a move in to the Football League at Southend United.

Despite making more than 50 appearances for the Shrimpers, he was released following their relegation to non-League and returned to Weymouth in the summer.

Right-back Calvin Brooks spent four years in the Huish Park youth set-up but was unable to make a first-team appearance before joining Dorchester Town.

He is now a regular fixture in the Terras back line and committed his future to the club in the summer.

Matt Worthington in action vs Dover

Yeovil Town have been drawn away  at either Dover or Yate Town in the FA Cup First Round Draw, should they get past W*ymouth

The draw was made by a pair of FA Cup winning captains, Kelly Smith and Wes Morgan (yes, he of 2007 shoddy back pass fame)

The Glovers will have to get past their local rivals this Tuesday the 19th of October after conceding a last minute equaliser on Saturday. Dover and Yate Town also drew 1-1 at the weekend and will go again this Tuesday.

All First Round ties will be played over the weekend of Saturday 6th of November, ticket and travel details will be confirmed… if Tuesday goes well!

Yeovil Town attacker Tom Knowles spoke to BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins following the Glovers’ 1-1 with Altrincham

Knowles was please with his team mates’ reaction to the loss against Notts County but was frustrated that the winning goal didn’t come.

“We knew we had to be better than we were on Saturday, and we did that, every one of us was brilliant tonight, but it was one of those night where it wouldn’t go in for us”

Both Knowles and manager Darren Sarll spoke about how a second half chance to Josh Staunton was deemed not to have crossed the line, Knowles, like his manager thinks the decision went against the home side.

“We thought it went in, we’re a bit disappointed the officials might have let us down on that one, but we gave it out all”

“We were all up, we all thought it was a goal, the linesman and the ref were the only two people in the stadium who didn’t think it went in, which is frustrating because we’ve worked so hard to get these goals.”

The fomer Cambridge man spoke of how his role has changed and how his form has dipped but that he is starting to feel more like the player we saw last season.

“I know the past couple weeks, I haven’t been myself, but tonight I felt back to how I have been and how I was playing, a goal would have topped it off and the three points, but I’m a lot more confident, the team tonight – I’m sure you can all see – are more confident and hopefully we can take that into Saturday”

Yeovil Town manager Darren Sarll talks to BBC Radio Somerset

Yeovil Town manager Darren Sarll has spoken to the BBC following the Glovers’ 1-1 draw with Altrincham.

Yeovil took the lead mid way through the second half through Joe Quigley, but former Glover A-Jay Leitch Smith levelled the game up; the visitor’s spent more than 75 minutes with a make shift defence after both central defender Toby Mullarky and goalkeeper Tony Thompson being forced off, the latter replaced by defender Connor Hampson in between the sticks.

Despite that, Sarll was pleased with the attacking intent after a shot-shy effort against Notts County at the weekend.

“We had more shots (than against Notts County), we had a month’s worth of chances and attempts, but I very much preferred the engery of the side tonight”

Yeovil started the game with three recognised strikers, goal scorer Quigley was joined by Adi Yussuf and Exeter loanee Ben Seymour, something that Sarll called a ‘gamble’.

“It was a bit of a gamble, the team I picked, we tried to use as many of the offensive players as we could, knowing we need more shots… we had seven in the first six minutes, that’s the pleasing thing, the energy of the team”

Sarll praised Altrincham, the visitors leaped above Solihull into a play off spot with a point, but admitted that given the circumstances Yeovil coul – and maybe should – have won the game,

“The chances we created, and the fact that the goalkeeper is not a goalkeeper – we’ve massivley let them off the hook, it feels worse than just a point”

“I think we put the goalie under a lot of pressure, but a lot of those moments came in congested penalty boxes, we think the  [Josh]Staunton chance is a goal [more on that in a moment], but the fact that there was an attacking threat, an attacking thought process, mindset, that’s what I wanted to see.”

Josh Staunton.

There was individual praise for Quigley, Tom Knowles and Jordan Barnett, but as the manager alluded to, Josh Staunton had a header cleared off the line in the second half, something which Sarll, Staunton and others are convinced should have been given the Glovers’ way.

“Staunton is adament, he’s not the type to throw those comments willy nilly, but he’s adament it went in”

Attention turned to Saturday’s FA Cup game vs Weymouth, something which Sarll simply describes as a ‘Big Game’.

“Of course, it s a big game, a big game. We didnt witness it with supporters last year, it’s a huge game on Saturday and I want the players who go out there have a real understanding of the importance it has to the supporters and we show a similar desire as we did today…”

The Yeovil Town Supporters’ Alliance Group (SAG) has today released a statement to the Gloverscast and other media outlets after a sustained period of rumour and speculation regarding the ownership of the Football Club.

The statement from the YTFC Supporters’ Alliance Group reads as follows:

Given the speculation across social media among supporters in the last 72 hours, we urge those at the table negotiating to offer some certainty and clarity as to the future of Yeovil Town FC.

If Scott Priestnall had the best interests of the football club at his heart as he says, it is imperative that he invests more money into the club, sources the investment he has promised previously or sells the club to the consortium which offers Yeovil Town FC the brightest future.

As a group of united supporters, we believe the time is now for genuine change and only one group at the table offers that hope for the future of Yeovil Town FC.

The Gloverscast welcomes the statement from the Supporters’ Alliance Group and hope for a positive resolution in the near future.

Yeovil Town have been handed an away tie in the 2nd Round of the Somerset Premier Cup against Larkhall Athletic.

Larkhall are a Bath based side currently plying their trade in the Southern League, Division 1 South.

They progressed through the First Round after defeating Street FC on penalties after drawing 1-1 in standard time, whilst the Glovers beat Bridgwater United to progress to this stage.

Athletic currently sit in 7th place in the league table, just outside the play-off spots.

Ties will be played week commencing 9th November, with full tickets details to be released in due course.

We’ve met before

Yeovil Town were last drawn against Larkhall Athletic in the Somerset Premier Cup back in March 2015

The Glovers put out a strong side, which included future Wales international striker Kieffer Moore(at Centre Back!)… the game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes with Yeovil progressing on penalties.

Here’s the Ciderspace news report from that evening:

Penalty Shoot-Out Needed To Settle Cup Tie

Yeovil Town needed extra time and a penalty shoot-out tonight to get past Southern League Division One South and West Larkhall Athletic tonight. In a match played at their Plain Ham Ground near Bath, the Glovers had taken the lead midway through the first half when AJ Leitch-Smith beat home keeper Alex Shaftoe to the ball to score from inside the box. However, they were pegged back when Joe Tumelty scored from close range midway through the second period to level the tie, and despite having the greater number of chances they couldn’t convert a winner.

That took the game through extra time, and after 120 minutes the two sides still couldn’t be divided. Thankfully Yeovil Town found their shooting boots during the penalty shoot-out, with AJ Leitch-Smith, Sam Hoskins, Kieffer Moore and Nathan Ralph converting a perfect set of penalties, whilst Larkhall failed to convert two of theirs, with Jamie Lyons the unlucky man whose spot kick was missed to send Yeovil through to the semi-final stages. There they will meet Bridgwater Town at Fairfax Park, after they saw their way past Odd Down at the Quarter-Final stages – a date for this tie has yet to be arranged.

Final Score: Larkhall Athletic 1 Yeovil Town 1. (After Extra Time. Yeovil win 4-2 on penalties).
