June 2026 (Page 2)

Before last season I said I wanted to club to get the recruitment done early. For too long we’ve been the club that waits it out for the players who don’t get picked up. For too long we’ve felt like the last resort for players.

We’ve smashed that perception to pieces so far with a flurry of daily announcements and a selection of signings that have whet the appetite for the new season – and we’re not even back at pre season yet.

As expected – and possibly spoiled by his former club – Billy Rowley has crashed Walton and Hersham’s league winning party to bring in three players that he feels can make the step up in Mason Obeng, Jos Barker and Johl Powell. That’s provided us with depth in midfield and in goal, although I will continue to pine for the return of Jed Ward. It’s also added three players by who know the manager, know the systems that can contribute pretty quickly.

We’ve also bolstered the ranks with players who “know the level” (and above) too. Zain Westbrooke, Archie Davies, Hayden Muller and Joe Gubbins have all arrived with pedigree and in their prime years. They’ve also been drawn into the club by the project too, so whatever we’re telling these players that makes us a destination is fine with me. We’ve also bolstered the front line with Ste Walker from Scarborough. A versatile forward, who Yeovil legend Kevin Gall talked about on this week’s Gloverscast. Walker knows where the back of the net is, and from what Gally has told us, can do a bit of everything.

The promise of more to come from the club’s Chief Operating Officer, Nicholas Brayne, has seen Jordan Norville-Williams and Jack Kingdon arrive and the rumour mill keeps on going. Chatter of Tom Knowles (#DFILWF) returning to Huish Park – following the administrative error that saw him depart Forest Green Rovers – seemed fanciful and was ruled out by our HR guy on Twitter. It would be an unbelievable coup but, Knowles is comfortably a League Two player and I have no doubts clubs will throw money at him to bring him in. There’s a host of Twitter transfer rumour aggregators who are stirring the pot as always.

We’re now up to 18 squad members with plenty of depth in defence. I think we’re still light in the middle of the pitch and up top and will continue to campaign for Jed Ward’s return between the sticks. But, huge credit to all involved because we feel more prepared than we have in years and our clearly investing for a competitive season.

Finally, a shout out to the club for making sure these recruits have all been unveiled at Huish Park with scarves and accompanying content. One of the many (in my opinion) downsides of taking training away from Yeovil was that anyone who signed during last season’s lacklustre recruitment drive was given a scarf and photographed in front of generic gym entrance. These signings already feel more like ours.

Yeovil Town have announced the signing of left wing back Jordan Norville-Williams following his departure from Dorking Wanderers.

The wide man, who is comfortable in attacking or defensive roles was key in Dorking’s run to the National League South play offs and came up against the Glovers in the National League South for Farnborough.

He signs a one year deal, with an option for a futher 12 months.

Welcome to Huish Park, Jordan.

One of Yeovil Town’s newest signings Hayden Muller has said that the projects ‘speaks for itself when chatting to the National League Lowdown podcast recently.

When asked about making the move to Huish Park from Sutton United, he said that after weighing up the pros and cons, the only concern was picking up his family and moving across the country.

“The only con from my point of view was moving, the rest of the project speaks for itself, when you see the players that [Yeovil] are signing, the way the manager wants to play football, the size of the club, from my point of view the only thing that could be classed as a con is moving my family to Bristol, that is it, really, the rest of it, is a positive”

“I had a couple of other approaches – nothing concrete, Yeovil showed the most interest throughout the summer, they were really keen and I think, as a player that’s what you want to hear, you want a manager that’s keen to get you in, because no-one can guarantee you minutes in football, but the closest thing to a guarantee is when a manager wants to bring you in, and he’s keen to get you from day one.”

“The main thing for me is playing under a manager that will suit the way you want to play football, because it’s all well and good, signing for a team that could be bigger on paper or give you more money or something like that, but the main thing is signing for a manager who will play the way you want to play and it will showcase your ability even more, because the byproduct of that is me playing better, me looking better and playing even more matches.”

“The manager was the biggest [reason], speaking to him, how he sees football and he wants his team to get the ball down and playing, that was the main thing, but the other things I liked was the size of the club, it’s a big club with a lot of ambition and you can see it in the signings they’re making, teams can say they’re going to go for it, but then not really show it, but Yeovil are definitely signing some top players, I’m sure there’s a couple more to come.

“From the conversations I’ve had and from my own point of view, I think we need to be pushing for promotion, 100%, I don’t think the manager would expect anything less than pushing for at least the play-offs if not automatic promotion.

[Yeovil are] getting the business done early, getting the players in with the kind of profiles he wants, will only put them in good stead, they’re not making it up, they know what kind of player and know what kind of football they’re playing, and I think it’ll be a really good season next season”

Yeovil Town defend the Thatcher's Stand in the pre-season friendly against Cardiff City Under-21s.

Yeovil Town have confirmed that the home friendly against Bristol Rovers has been cancelled – and instead, Yeovil will take on a Cardiff City U21s side.

The Gas were originally coming to Huish Park on Saturday 18th July.

Rovers have said that they have other plans on the day – cheers lads!

Tickets have gone on sale for a game that could well see the return of Dak Mafico and Troy Perrett and will be a chance for new Glovers defender Jack Kingdon to play against his former club – the game will kick off at 3pm.

The Bluebirds sent their Under 21 side last summer also, beating the Glovers 3-2.

Yeovil Town have announced the signing of defender Jack Kingdon following his departure from Cardiff City.

Kingdon, who has represented Scotland at youth level, was captain of the Bluebird’s Under 21s set up and has previously played for Manchester United.

He had a spell at Rochdale during the 2024/25 season, signing on the day that Glovers played at Spotland and went on to play 16 times for the Dale.

He represented Cardiff three times in the first team, all in the EFL Trophy and is now a Glover for at least a year, signing for the 2026/27 season, with an option for another.

Welcome to Somerset, Jack!

Despite having brought eight players in already, Yeovil Town have said their transfer business ahead of the new National League season is “nowhere near finished.”

In the past fortnight, the Glovers have announced the additions of goalkeeper Jos Barker, defenders Joe Gubbins , Hayden Muller and Archie Davies, midfielder Zain Westbrooke, and forwards Stephen WalkerJohl Powell and Mason Obeng.

But, Chief Operations Officer Nicholas Brayne has posted on social media that there is still more to come with further announcements expected next week.

Posting on Facebook, he said: “We are nowhere near finished yet! Hold on to your hats for next week. Lovely to see the reaction from the most important part of this wonderful club – our amazing fan base.”

The club’s social media followed up with a video showing all the latest arrivals on Saturday with a post which ended: “Stay tuned next week, Glovers….

As is always the case, the transfer rumour mill has been spinning with former Glovers’ player Tom Knowles the latest to be linked with a return to Huish Park.

The 27-year-old is available having left Forest Green Rovers following “a legacy administrative error” which meant the Gloucestershire outfit were unable to trigger an extension on his contract following a season which saw him score ten goals in 45 National League appearances last season.

Announcing his departure last month, Forest Green said: “Unfortunately, Tom has decided to look at other opportunities and has played his last game in the FGR colours.

The reports linking him with a return to Yeovil are doing the rounds on social media – and the Stroud Times – so add whatever size pinch of salt you feel necessary, and all eyes will be on Huish Park next week to see who the other new faces are.

One other player who could be interesting boss Billy Rowley is young striker Will Merry, who impressed during his six-game loan spell from Southampton at the end of last season.

The 20-year-old was one of five youngsters released by Championship side Southampton earlier this week, making him available to sign for other clubs ahead of next season.

Yeovil Town’s recruitment drive continues with the signing of former Sutton United defender Hayden Muller on a two-year deal.

Muller, 24, leaves Sutton after making 30 appearances last term where he scored twice – one of which came against the Glovers at Huish Park.

Equally comfortable in defence or in the midfield, Muller has experience at both Millwall as a youth player and a spell in Ireland with Dundalk where he made an appearance in the UEFA Conference League in 2023.

He has played against the Glovers a couple of times and now becomes one of us!

Welcome to Somerset, Hayden!

Yeovil Town have announced the signing of former Southend United defender Joe Gubbins on a two year deal.

Gubbins, whose last game for the Shrimpers saw him lift the FA Trophy at Wembley, has been a mainstay at Roots Hall for a couple of seasons, playing 35 times in the league during the 2025/26 campaign.

The left-sided defender has been linked with the Glovers since the weekend when it was confirmed he was not staying at Southend and departing Essex to “explore another opportunity elsewhere.”

Speaking to the Glovers’ social media on Thursday, the 24-year-old said: “It is a move which has been in the works for a little while and I am delighted and excited to get started. Yeovil is a huge club which deserves to be in the Football League and when I spoke to (manager Billy Rowley) our ambitions aligned, so I am really excited for what is to come.

I know what this league brings, I know the fanbase here is big and I have become experienced to that (at Southend) and I think I have the attributes to cope with the league. We all know it is a tough league, so hopefully I can come in and help us get up the league.

Describing his own playing style, he added: “I will give 100% every week, I am a ball-playing centre back who loves to defend, I will give my all for the club when I pull the shirt on. I like to get on the ball first and foremost, I like to help the team play. I would class myself as a calm, composed head at the back, get my head on the ball and hopefully we can keep a lot of clean sheets this year.

A left sided defender by trade, but comfortable in any central position across the back line, Gubbins has Championship experience with QPR and a full season in League Two under his belt with Accrington a few year ago.

He scored the second penalty in the Wembley final shootout against Wealdstone as well as being brought off the bench in the play-offs the season before to slot home a spot kick against Forest Green.

He’s played twice against the Glovers, including 72 minutes of Southend’s 2-1 win over Yeovil back in March.

Welcome to Huish Park, Joe!
