Despite having brought eight players in already, Yeovil Town have said their transfer business ahead of the new National League season is “nowhere near finished.”

In the past fortnight, the Glovers have announced the additions of goalkeeper Jos Barker, defenders Joe Gubbins , Hayden Muller and Archie Davies, midfielder Zain Westbrooke, and forwards Stephen WalkerJohl Powell and Mason Obeng.

But, Chief Operations Officer Nicholas Brayne has posted on social media that there is still more to come with further announcements expected next week.

Posting on Facebook, he said: “We are nowhere near finished yet! Hold on to your hats for next week. Lovely to see the reaction from the most important part of this wonderful club – our amazing fan base.”

The club’s social media followed up with a video showing all the latest arrivals on Saturday with a post which ended: “Stay tuned next week, Glovers….

As is always the case, the transfer rumour mill has been spinning with former Glovers’ player Tom Knowles the latest to be linked with a return to Huish Park.

The 27-year-old is available having left Forest Green Rovers following “a legacy administrative error” which meant the Gloucestershire outfit were unable to trigger an extension on his contract following a season which saw him score ten goals in 45 National League appearances last season.

Announcing his departure last month, Forest Green said: “Unfortunately, Tom has decided to look at other opportunities and has played his last game in the FGR colours.

The reports linking him with a return to Yeovil are doing the rounds on social media – and the Stroud Times – so add whatever size pinch of salt you feel necessary, and all eyes will be on Huish Park next week to see who the other new faces are.

One other player who could be interesting boss Billy Rowley is young striker Will Merry, who impressed during his six-game loan spell from Southampton at the end of last season.

The 20-year-old was one of five youngsters released by Championship side Southampton earlier this week, making him available to sign for other clubs ahead of next season.

Ok great. They could do with 2 players in late 20s/early 30s, experienced Goalkeeper and Striker to provide competition, drive the others forward. Ex- League 1/2.

Ex EFL players dont win you this division 🤣🤣🤣. You only have to look at Rochdale and Barnet to see a majority of their sides were young players from the lower leagues and players from the division.

Blend of youth and experience is a recipe for success. Thinking of those Man Utd teams in early 90s.

Who were famously mostly kids, as Alan Hansen pointed out

Indeed. Wasn’t the average age of our 2003 Conference winners about 23? I’m sure the eldest were about 26/27 (Skivo, Kirk Jackson, etc.). Certainly Gall, Way, Johnson, Williams, McIndoe, Lockwood, Lindegaard, Weale were pretty young and relatively inexperienced.

That’s still a blend of youth and experience. Experienced ones down the spine of the team, and young ones to run. A young goalkeeper is probably not a great move, unless ridiculously talented like Jed was. Hopefully recruitment can secure an old head between the sticks to provide competition, and the young one can learn off him.

And there’s a lot more money involved in football now. It’s more difficult to get promoted. Yeovil using the same approach as 2003 probably won’t have same effect. It needs to be more.

Yes I meant the entire 90s decade really. The platform doesn’t let you edit a comment after. The experienced players in Man Utd teams throughout 90s were Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister, Roy Keane, Peter Schmeichel, Bryan Robson, Gary Neville, Denis Irwin… mostly kids? Probably 50/50% blend of each.
