Will Buse has back to back wins under his belt as Weston-super-Mare picked up six points across their Tuesday/Saturday double header.

In midweek, the Seagulls were 2-1 victors against Chesham away from home before picking up a very impressive 2-0 win over Chelmsford on Saturday.

Buse played the full 90 in both games and excelled in the Tuesday game in particular.


 Down at Plymouth Parkway, they had a Saturday to forget losing 3-0 to Winchester City.

All three goals came early on in the first half before Parkway managed to stop the flow.

Corey Koerner was on the bench but was brought on with less than ten minutes left on the clock. 

Sherborne we’re in FA Vase action, they drew 1-1 in 90 minutes with the Zebras progressing on penalties.

Josh Haskett was named amongst the subs but didn’t make the pitch, which is a shame

Sherborne head into the 2nd Round of the FA Vase.

Sam Pearson has said that he has full confidence that Yeovil will bounce back from defeat at Gateshead with a positive result on Monday.

The Glovers went down 3-1 at the Gateshead International Stadium and welcome Rochdale to Huish Park on the Bank Holiday.

Speaking after Saturday’s game, Pearson told Gloverscast Ben he thinks there’s plenty to take into Monday’s game.

“We learnt about the quality of us. I think we showed out there that we are a good team and a lot of people are going to underestimate us this season. But we know, deep down that we are a great side.

“You don’t do what we did last season and then bottle it. So we’ll go into Monday [vs Rochdale] thinking ‘we can win this’. We just have to bounce back now and go from there.

“I think [Monday] is a great game to bounce back and get a result and, I think, if we do get a result, we’ll show where we are again. We want to be in the top half of the table and pushing and pushing.”

The players headed south after the early kick off and the former Bristol City man said that the preparation and recovery starts straight away with a game kicking off in less than 48 hours.

“You have to do what’s best for you. We’ll get boys stretching in the bus, putting ice machines on, get some ice on, physios are on there so if anyone needs rubs, whatever your preference is. 

“I’ll just relax, chill out and I’ll be ready on Monday.”

The winger was, maybe slightly nervously, waiting on a notification from Mark Cooper in the group chat as to if they have a Sunday training session, but did say, that there is no doubt the group will be ready to go again.

“I think the Gaffer will put in the group chat later [if we have a Sunday training session], I hope it’s a day off to chill out and relax, but if it’s not then that’s fine. After losing you kind of want to focus on the next game and get going again.”

The final word went to the 157 Yeovil fans, some who caught flights or travelled up from Huish Park in the early hours.

“Honestly, I don’t know what to say, it’s mind blowing how many there was there. I just want to say thank you. Without them, football is nothing, the boys know that in there. We went over to clap them, and I want them to know it really means a lot. 

“I’m sure on Monday, they’ll be back again, and then the game after. Home or away, all last season and this season, just good things to say about them.”

Well it wasn’t the afternoon Yeovil would’ve wanted, as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at Gateshead. Let’s see how the rest of the league fared, and where it leaves Yeovil.

Before we look at the rest of Saturday’s fixture, we’re stepping back in time to Friday night, as Dagenham & Redbridge and FC Halifax Town played out a 1-1 draw under the lights. Josh Rees gave the hosts a first half lead, before former Glover Andrew Oluwabori equalised for Halifax late on to share the points.

Onto Saturday, and we begin in Aldershot, as they comprehensively beat Oldham Athletic 4-1, a double from summer signing James Henry getting proceedings underway. Ebbsfleet United’s woeful start to the season continued as they were battered at home by Woking, as new signing Matt Ward marked his debut with the final goal in a 3-0 win.

There was an enthralling encounter at Gander Green Lane between Sutton United and York City, as both teams took a lead before settling for a point apiece in a 2-2 draw, Will Davies equalising for the hosts against his former employers. It was a good day at The Hive for Barnet as they made it two home wins from two with their 2-1 victory over Southend United, with credit going to the away fans who outnumbered Barnet in their own ground.

There were three 1-1 draws, all with a level of drama! Hartlepool United needed a 98th minute equaliser from Mani Dieseruvwe to preserve their unbeaten start at home against Wealdstone, while Tamworth needed a 94th minute equaliser from summer signing Chris Wreh in the clash between the two promoted sides from the National League North. In the third draw, Braintree Town continued to grow in stature in the division as they took a credible point home from Solihull Moors, an 81st minute equaliser from new signing Brad Stevenson saving the Moors from another disappointing result.

Eastleigh continue with their 100% record to start the campaign, as they registered a slender 1-0 win courtesy of a Chris Maguire penalty away at Altrincham. Finally, there were two 0-0 draws, as Monday’s visitors Rochdale drew at home to Forest Green Rovers, while AFC Fylde shared the spoils with Maidenhead United, the Magpies getting their first point of the season.

Yeovil Town boss Mark Cooper said three “soft goals” cost his side as they went down to a 3-1 defeat at Gateshead on Saturday.

The Glovers found themselves 2-0 down inside 20 minutes through an own goal from defender Jordan Thomas followed quickly by another from hosts’ full-back Brandon Haunstrup, who was on trial at Huish Park this summer.

Striker Aaron Jarvis pulled one back on the half-hour mark and the visitors’ almost levelled when Morgan Williams’ header came back off the post, but they got not find another breakthrough.

Speaking to our man Ben Barrett after the game, Cooper said: “I didn’t think we deserved to lose the game, I thought we were well in it and we deserved at least a point- but, to do that, you have to have more big moments than they do.

”I thought it was a good game of football, we conceded some really soft goals. The first one we didn’t stay with the runner, the ball is going wide and we put it in our own goal, then the second we gave the ball away in our own area and after that we are in the game. We score a goal, hit the post through Morgan Williams and we think the ball goes in and we have loads of play around their penalty area, but we did not produce enough quality to get that equaliser.”

He added: “I thought we started brilliantly, Sam Pearson got in the box and should score, and for those first five or ten minutes we were really good but their goal changes things. Then we go 2-0 down and you have to roll the dice and I thought we did that and we were well in the game right until the end.

“But, we gave them three goals today and they do not need any help because they are a very good team. I thought we matched them today and I think Rob (Elliot, the Gateshead manager) will say it was an even game of football.”

The boss said his players believed Williams’ header towards the end of the first half crossed the line, but in the absence of goal line technology in the National League, we will never know.
 
Cooper voiced his frustration at referee Martin Woods who gave the home side a late penalty for a pull on substitute Mark Beck, but waved away an appeal from the visitors’ Frank Nouble for a similar incident.
 
The Glovers’ boss said: “The referee was so inconsistent, it is not often you will see a referee get booed off by the home crowd after they have won 3-1. If he gives the penalty to them at the end, he has to give the one for a double on Frank Nouble, it is the same type of foul.
 
“It seemed to be whoever shouted the loudest won the fouls, I would rather they were really good or really crap, not inconsistent. I can live with them being crap because we all have a bad day, but he was just inconsistent.”
 
Following the loss, Yeovil make the six-hour return journey south and prepare to face Rochdale at Huish Park on Bank Holiday Monday. The Greater Manchester side were held to a goalless draw at home to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, a match watched by Cooper on the return journey.
 
The boss said: “We will try and watch it on our way home, we have watched some of their games already, so we will look at how they set up. We have limited time to prepare, so we can’t waste any time.”

Well that was a frantic game wasn’t it?! Tom Bailey was in the press box for Three Valleys Radio on Saturday, here’s what he thought.

What a game. End to end for almost the full 90 minutes, we witnessed two teams who set out to play good football, and defend later. Sadly, we were punished much heavier for this, alongside other problems we need to face up to, but both sides were keen for goals today.

Gateshead displayed their attacking quality from the off, with many chances for different players showing why they’re almost certainly going to be involved in the playoff picture come the end of the season.

Yeovil too showed what they’re made of, going forwards and asking questions of the Gateshead defence, some good chances were made and wasted, but positive signs for a Yeovil attack that can look stodgy at times.

We missed Alex Whittle today. Our Scouser didn’t travel today, following the knock he received in the Ebbsfleet game midweek, and it showed how important he really is to this side. Jordan Thomas was chucked in at the deep end as Mark Cooper switched to a 5 man defence, with Sam Pearson having to fill the LWB position to little effect.

Cooper recognised this and switched things up, and we did look steadier for a period with Thomas at LB, but you have to feel that Yeovil could’ve done so much more had Whittle been fit. Raphael Araoye didn’t even have a look in, which may be an early cause for concern, but of course it’s early in the season still.

That was Aaron Jarvis’ best game so far. He’s had an indifferent start to the season has Jarvis, as he’s looked involved, but never really in with a shout of scoring, until today. He was terrorising the Gateshead backline, and making himself some really good space. The goal came from a beautiful Michael Smith cross, and he worked hard to win the header to get Yeovil back into the game.

It’s unfortunate he had to come off at half-time, early speculation suggests he was holding his back as he walked off following the whistle, so hopefully there is nothing too serious in that, as he really started to show why there was hype around him during the off season.

Brett McGavin is going to cause some headaches. I’m really enjoying the dynamic that Brett McGavin is bringing to this Yeovil side, I’ll be honest and say I wasn’t 100% sure on him throughout pre-season, but he’s very quickly proving me wrong!

He’s got such a deft touch on him, some great footwork, he’s picking up better positions too when Worthington takes his turn to go forwards, and he’s got a cracking shot to boot (as we saw against Ebbsfleet), he’s going to cause some selection headaches if he keeps playing like this while Charlie Cooper returns to full fitness.

We can be proud of that. Yes, it’s a defeat, and yes there were some silly mistakes and questions surrounding the defence, however within the context of the full season, I think we’ll look back and be proud of how we did today.

Gateshead are going to be around the playoffs barring some extreme circumstances this season, and having started the season with 10 points from 12, you know for a fact they’re setting themselves up for some kind of success come May.

We showed grit and determination to get ourselves back into it, and kept ourselves in it until the penalty at the end, the tactical switch from Cooper following the second goal brought stability and shape that we desperately needed, showing how game-smart he really is, and all this against a team that could easily finish the season in the top 3.

Yes we’re Yeovil Town, and we’re massive, but we’re also a newly promoted team that is only in its second year of a rebirth following over a decade of torture. Let’s be proud of ourselves, especially considering how we played the last time we came here…

Yeovil Town fell to a 3-1 defeat on the road at Gateshead this afternoon. The first half was a great game for the neutrals, with both sides playing some nice stuff going forward with a side of terrible defending.

An own goal by Jordan Thomas was added to by former Yeovil trialist Brandon Haunstrup inside 22 minutes before Aaron Jarvis got one back.

Mark Cooper’s side gave as good as they got against the league leaders, but a late penalty from Luke Hannant saw it finish 3-1.

First half

Yeovil had Gateshead chasing back in the 3rd minute.  Sam Pearson was played through on the left hand side of the Gateshead defence and he chose to cut it back rather than get it across the six yard box.

Moments later, Aaron Jarvis had a sighter from distance that skipped past the post of Tiernan Brooks.

Both sides exchanged possession in the early stages and in the 12th minute, Jacob Butterfield’s left footed strike was diverted in by Jordan Thomas. A spell of possession led to a cross in the box that came in too easily and wasn’t cleared away. 0-1

Yeovil tried to hit back and cross into the box found Jarvis who rose highest to head towards goal but his effort was comfortable for the keeper.

Ollie Wright was called into action in the 17th minute after the Oseni pounced on the Glovers as they tried to play out. The loanee got down low to deny the Gateshead striker.

Calamitous defending from Yeovil allowed former triallist Brandon Haunstrup to double Gateshead’s lead. A sloppy pass from Worthington didn’t quite make its way to Michael Smith and Haunstrup pounced to fire into the roof of the net. 0-2

The Glovers should have got one back in the 24th minute through Matt Worthington. A ball over the top caught Gateshead napping and Worthington found himself face to face with Brook in goal. The midfielder could only fire straight at the man in purple.

A few minutes later Aaron Jarvis got his goal. A great cross from Michael Smith found Yeovil’s number 9 on the spot and his powerful header couldn’t be kept out despite Brooks’ best efforts. 1-2

Jarvis nearly levelled the score with the next attack. Another cross in from the right caused Gateshead all sorts of problems but Jarvis could only strike high and wide.

Yeovil switched to the familiar back four and started to get more joy. Morgan Williams came within the width of the post to drawing Yeovil back level. 

Gateshead thought they’d scored their third moments later after Louis Storey’s header across the box was nodded in by Oseni. On this occasion the assistant’s flag saved the Glovers.

Second half

Mark Cooper made a half time change with Frank Nouble replacing goalscorer Aaron Jarvis.

Harvey Greenslade snuck in past Louis Storey on the 52nd minute and struck a good effort at goal and earned a corner for his efforts.

Butterfield came close to getting his 2nd of the afternoon moments later, drawing a save from Ollie Wright who clawed it out low to his right.

Gateshead maintained the pressure and whipped strike from Hannant went over Wright’s bar.

On the hour Yeovil Town made a triple substitution with Charlie Cooper, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Dylan Morgan coming on for Greenslade, McGavin and Sims.

Morgan nearly made an instant impact. sloppy play from Gateshead allowed Nouble and Morgan to link up and Morgan’s effort was blocked by a sliding Heed defender.

Gateshead made some changes of their own with former Glover Mark Beck entering the fray. But it was his teammate, Kain Adom who’s shot was deflected wide with Wright at full stretch.

The second half never quite lived up to the first, with neither side able to get their passing game flowing and plenty of substitutions disrupting the flow.

The Glovers conceded an 87th minute penalty after a shirt pull on Mark Beck. Luke Hannant coolly despatched past Wright. 1-3

Gateshead could have scored a fourth in stoppage time but Adom’s effort was skied over.

Jordan Thomas makes his first National League Premier appearance for Yeovil Town as they take on Gateshead this lunchtime (12.30pm kick-off).

The full-back, who joined from Hampton & Richmond in the summer, replaces Alex Whittle at left back with forward Harvey Greenslade back in the starting XI in place of Frank Nouble.

Cooper told Ben Barrett that Jordan Young misses out as his girlfriend is ‘expecting today’.
