Yeovil Town manager Mark Cooper has said striker Jake Hyde is coming back to fitness having handed him a starting place for today’s visit by Dover Athletic in National League South today.

The former Wrexham frontman has scored three times coming off the bench in his past five matches and has been paired up front alongside Exeter City loanee Sonny Cox as the Glovers go in search of a record-breaking 13th consecutive win.

Top scorer Rhys Murphy and fellow frontman Frank Nouble, who scored in the 3-1 win at his former club Torquay United in midweek, are both named on the substitutes’ bench with Cooper looking to manage his frontline with Farnborough Town coming to Huish Park on Tuesday night.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins ahead of the match, the manager said: “Hydey has come off the bench and scored goals which we knew he would. He had a fragmented pre-season and he is just starting to look fit and free of any niggles and he’s done really well coming off the bench. It’s important we try and manage the older guys up front and keep everyone fresh.

The data was really high (against Torquay United on Tuesday night), Frank was amazing, he was playing like a man possessed and he got cramp towards the end. We have two big games today and Tuesday (at home to Farnborough Town) and we have to spread the workload.”

Once again, the home side’s defence is unchanged and Cooper said the continuity they been able to achieve has been a major part of their success. Full-back Alex Whittle starts today but will be missing against Farnborough having picked up his fifth booking of the season at Torquay.

The manager added: “You can see the benefit of the continuity we have had there. The relationships, the understanding and the work we have done with them in terms of their distances has been first class. Jake Wannell looks a super player now, Morgs (Williams) is a Rolls-Royce and the two full-backs (Alex Whittle and Michael Smith) have been outstanding, as has the goalkeeper (Joe Day).

Whittle is a big miss for us on Tuesday, but you are never going to get through a season with all your players fit, ready and free of suspension every game.

Dover Athletic, who are managed by former Yeovil youth team player Mitch Brundle, come to Somerset second-from-bottom of the National League South table with only one win to their name.

But, as Cooper often says, he has done his homework on the opposition and is not getting carried away with talk of records.

He added: “It is a big message for us, we have to respect every team we play and Dover are no different. We have done loads of homework and they have serious threats they can pose and we have to be at the top of our game to get a result.

It seems to be every week we are talking about a record, but we just have to do the job that is in front of us and that is getting three points today. Whatever it means, it is only three points and that is what we have to focus on.

Jake Hyde has been handed a place in the Yeovil Town starting XI as the Glovers go in search of a record-breaking 13th consecutive win against Dover Athletic at Huish Park today.

The striker, who has three goals coming off the bench in his last five matches, is paired alongside Exeter City loanee Sonny Cox, with top scorer Rhys Murphy and frontman Frank Nouble among the substitutes.

Will Dawes also returns on the left of midfield. He appeared as a second half substitute in Tuesday night’s 3-1 win at Torquay United.

On the substitutes’ bench, play-maker Jordan Maguire-Drew having been left out for the previous two league matches, but there is no place for Jordan Stevens who appeared as a substitute in midweek.

Yeovil Town have the chance to go 13 unbeaten as they welcome Dover Athletic to Huish Park.

The Glovers have been emphatic recently, beating their past 12 opponents, which equals a club record. This side will want the top spot though and with a win at the weekend, they will surpass the 1963 team’s long-standing 12-game winning streak.

Dover Athletic however will be hoping to play the role of party poopers and in turn, change their fortunes. Currently sat 23rd in the league (second bottom) the Kent team will want to get their season back on track with a victory against table-topping Yeovil.

Yeovil Town News

Boss Mark Cooper feels all the pressure will be on his side when they take on Dover. He said: “There’s no pressure on them, they can relax a little bit and do what they do and try and be the ones to end the run.”

The ex-Swindon manager made it clear his team “are concentrating on themselves” and will “keep trying to put points on the board.”

Cooper also talked about how solid the back line has been recently. He said: “The back four has been really settled, it looks like a really competent back four and long may that continue.”

The 54-year-old kept his cards close to his chest when talking about injuries, stating “There were a few knocks and bruises.”

Jordan Young and Jake Hyde were both on target in the 2-0 win over W*ymouth.

In-form striker Jake Hyde spoke about the difficulties the Glovers will face on Saturday. He said: “They’ll be a very tough side to beat in set-pieces and they will be organised… but we just have to concentrate on us.”

Rhys Murphy, Alex Whittle, Charlie Cooper and Matty Worthington are all one yellow card away from suspension.

Jamie Sendle-White still misses out through injury.

Dover Athletic Team News

Manager Mitch Brundle spoke to Dover Athletic TV after their game against Welling United. He said: “We need to start winning games, regardless of who we play against, we need to go there and try and win the game. There is no pressure off in any game, my job is to go there and try to get a result.”

He continued: “I started my youth career there so it’s going to be strange standing in the dugout. I want to go there and win. I want my team to perform and be proud when I walk away.”

One player to watch for the Kent side is Zidan Sutherland who has bagged four goals so far this campaign.

Another former Glover Iffy Allen misses out on a return to Huish Park as he serves the last game of his three-match suspension.

What’s better than 11 win in a row? Well, 12 in a row of course, and that’s exactly what happened last night in Torquay, as Yeovil swept aside the pre-season title favourites. Let’s see what the rest of the league have been up to in midweek action!

We start with Aveley hosting Hemel Hempstead on Monday night, where the home side escaped with the three points in a 2-1 win, a late Joe Iaciofano penalty not enough for the visitors. The win sent Aveley joint top on points, of course this was before the win for Yeovil last night so the gap is now 3 points once again (Yeovil still have a game in hand as well).

Onto Tuesday’s action, and we start in Dorset, where 10-men W*ymouth fell at home to 3rd-placed Bath City. A 5-1 drubbing will certainly inspire the Romans ahead of a vital clash against Aveley at the weekend. Braintree Town continue their impressive form with a 4-0 win over St Albans City, with loanee Shaquille Coulthirst bagging a brace to send the hosts 9th. Another 4-0 win came at Slough Town, where they hammered Truro City to build off of their impressive draw with Grimsby at the weekend.

Havant & Waterlooville continue their woeful run of form with another heavy defeat, this time at the mercy of Worthing, to leave them stranded at the bottom of the table. There was another win for Maidstone to continue their good run of games, as they defeated Eastbourne Borough 2-0 to send the visitors into the drop zone. There were plenty of goals at the Crabble Stadium, where this weekend’s visitors Dover Athletic recovered from 2-0 down at half time to share the points with Welling United.

A fiercely contested game came east of London, as Dartford lost at home to Chelmsford City, as top scorer Harvey Bradbury was sent off following some handbags on the hour. Chippenham Town put an end to Farnborough’s good run, as they held onto a lead to win 2-1 and send the hosts 12th. In the final fixture of the night, Tonbridge Angels and Hampton & Richmond played out a 0-0 draw.

Ian was in the Torquay Press Box for Yeovil’s 3-1 win last night. Here are his Conclusions from an enjoyable night in the English Riviera.

We got to show off our attacking depth, again. The contrast in the two sides couldn’t have been clearer from the starting line ups. Torquay are ravaged by injuries and missing key players and Mark Cooper was able to bring Jordan Young and Sonny Cox back into his line up, with Jake Hyde, Jordan Stevens and Will Dawes ready to come off the bench. Last night we got to see Cox in left-midfield rather than centrally and he gave a battling performance up against Shaun Donnellan. He faded as the game wore on, but showed another string to his bow in the green and white shirt. Frank Nouble had another good performace, Rhys Murphy should have bagged and Young was at his mercurial best again.

It was a man of the match performance from Sonny Blu Lo-Everton. That was probably Lo-Everton’s best performance in a Yeovil shirt. He was diligent defensively, certain in possession and full of energy. His first half goal was brilliantly struck, showing that when allowed the space Torquay did, he’s able to punish teams. He’s had to wait for his chance, much like Josh Owers did, but there’s so much competition in centre midfield at the moment and anyone who does get dropped will feel harshly done by right now.

Torquay didn’t really lay a glove on Yeovil. For all the talk about Torquay being our closest rivals this season (and their good home record) we’ve definitely faced tougher tests this season. They’ve got their injury woes, and have added loanees in the past couple of weeks but we kept them at arm’s length for most of the game and for a spell in the first half they couldn’t get near us. There is a long way to go still and we have all the momentum. If, as many predicted, the Gulls are to be our title rivals this season, they have a lot of work to do.

The run continues. This unfathomable, unbelievable run of wins keeps going and off the back of dismal lows of April (and the decade prior) it feels so much sweeter. BBC Devon’s commentator asked if ‘Yeovil always play like that?’ after the match and my answer was ‘yeah, pretty much.’ The performances has been remarkable in these past few weeks, different game plans for different opponents from different levels have shown how prepared Mark Cooper is for any challenge. The supporters are well and truly on board and each game feels more winnable than the last. The connection with players gets closer with each victory too. I don’t think you can underestimate how much closer the HP Source series makes you feel to the players too. Seeing those moments where people’s guard is down, and they appear more relaxed makes such a difference.

Mark Cooper still wants more. Even with 12 wins in a row, it feels like Cooper knows there’s even more to come from this squad. But for a lapse on their goal, Yeovil were pretty dominant throughout at Plainmoor, but you can sense that Cooper really wanted to make it a statement victory. Murphy could have, probably should have scored two. Nouble cuts it back to Worthington when he probably should have smashed it goal, Jordan Young has a great 1v1 in the second half and a couple of better final balls could have seen even more chances to score. I think he wants to really put a team to the sword and Saturday’s visitors are second from bottom, Dover Athletic…

Thirteen looks like it could be Yeovil Town’s lucky number and it could come this weekend at home to Dover Athletic.

If you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, we are talking about consecutive wins for Yeovil Town in all competitions, which reached 12 with Tuesday night’s 3-1 win at Torquay United.

So, after asking our Historical Oracle Nigel Dyson to consult his comprehensive spreadsheet, the answer is not quite simple – but it seems to be 13.

That is in the 1963-64 season, Yeovil Town also won 12 consecutive games in all the competitions we’re counting from October 9th 1963 to December 21st 1963, and here they are:

But there’s 14 big green Ws there“, we hear you cry! Your counting does not deceive you, but one of these – a 9-0 win over Welton Rovers in October 1963 – came in the Somerset Premier Cup, a competition which Yeovil Town were beaten in this season. However, given the make up of our teams for both our fixtures in the competition being decidedly youthful (aka entirely made up of Under-18s players), we’re not counting that competition in this maths.

But then there’s still 13 Ws“, you reply – yes, yes, we’re getting there! If you look at the home fixture against Worcester City on November 11th 1963 you will see a little asterisk meaning the game was abandoned (if you’re interested, when it was replayed in March, Yeovil won) which makes it 12.

Therefore, my this spreadsheet, Mark Cooper’s side equalled a club record last night and now only Dover Athletic stand between them and a new one. On to…….Saturday. Let’s not get carried away!

The Football Association’s ‘naughty portal’ has updated overnight to show that Alex Whittle will have to miss a game.

The full back received his fifth yellow card of the campaign mid way through the second half after the official decided that taking a split second too long over a throw in was simply unacceptable.

Whittle be missing for the Farnborough game on Tuesday 14th November – he will be fine to play against Dover this coming Saturday.

For what it’s worth; Rhys Murphy, Matt Worthington and Charlie Cooper are also listed as being on four bookings.
