Jordan Young has said he feels his attacking colleagues are equally to blame for Yeovil’s loss against Rochdale on Saturday.
Yeovil had the bulk of the chances within the first hour of the game before Rochdale scored a late winner in a 0-1 defeat for the Glovers.
Speaking to BBC’s Mark Stillman post-match, Young suggested the defence weren’t entirely at fault for the result, adding that he felt Yeovil performed well in the first hour.
“I thought the first half was really good, controlled the game out of possession and in possession, I thought we had a couple of good chances we probably should have took, but other than that they didn’t really do much”.
“It’s that time in the game where they’re on top that we’ve got to see it out better, the goal was obviously not good, but it’s some of the attacker’s fault as well, we’ve got to score when the chances come, we can’t keep blaming other people and we’ve just got to stick together”.
The wide-man felt he may have been hard done by with the decision on his long distance header, cheekily suggesting it may well have crossed the line.
“I never normally head the ball, but I’ve just got a contact, I didn’t even try and score really, it’s just hit my head, but I thought it was in, I obviously couldn’t see it, the linesman was a bit far away but I thought it was in“.
When asked about the step up in quality following promotion to the National League, he said it’s a noticeable difference.
“I think teams are more ruthless in this league and more difficult to break down, but you’ve seen today that when we have the ball we look really good”.
“Teams are saying to us how good we are, but we’re not winning the game, so you can be as good as you want at a level but if you don’t get results, it’s no good”.
Young also spoke to Ian, and shared his frustration on a good first hour with nothing to show for it.
“Yeah it’s really frustrating, I think the way we played up to however many minutes was really good, but especially when we’re attacking that end, we’ve got to be ruthless, we’ve got to get shots off, make the keeper work as much as we can and keep the ball in that area of the pitch and eventually we’ll get a goal, even if it’s in the 80th minute”.
“It’s frustrating because sometimes we don’t really know what happens in a game when it changes, but when it does change we need to ride the storm a little bit and stay in the game”.
