Yeovil Town have signed forward Lewis Twamley from Southern League Premier Division South side Merthyr Town until the summer of 2026.
The 21-year-old has scored 15 times in 21 appearances for the South Wales club this season having joined the club following his release by League Two Newport County in September 2023.
Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel, he said: “I feel this is the right move for me in my career now, I am obviously stepping up two leagues but I feel like I am ready for the move. I trained this morning with the lads and they welcomed me in.
“I did two years at Newport and it did not really go as planned, I went on loan twice (to Salisbury and Pontypridd) which did not really go as planned either, but I came to Merythr and I found a home. I have had a really good season this season and I am hoping to continue my form here.
“I got my move back up because of my form, 15 goals and 21 assists, I think it is, and I just cannot wait to get started here now. I like to get fans off their feet, I am quite a tricky player, left-footed, I like to get the ball on the half term and beat players, but I pride myself on goals and assists.”
He arrives to join a forward line including loanees Ciaran McGuckin, Sean McGurk and Kofi Shaw as well as permanent players Aaron Jarvis, Frank Nouble and Harvey Greenslade. The Glovers face Gateshead in the National League Premier Division at Huish Park on Friday night.
The Welshman joined his hometown team, Cardiff City, at the age of just six years old before moving on to Newport as a teenager and made three appearances in the Papa John’s Trophy in the 2020-21 season. His only other appearance for Newport came off the bench in the same competition at home to Arsenal Under-21s the following season.
