Mitchell Rose

Midfielder Mitch Rose has joined Northern Premier League Premier Division side South Shields after his short-term contract at Huish Park expired.

The former Notts County and Grimsby player was a free agent when he joined at the end of September and made three appearances with his only start coming in the goalless draw with Maidenhead United.

His signing is not without controversy after he was given a nine-month suspended prison sentence in July having been found guilty of an assault which left a 26-year-old woman with a fractured cheekbone.

The brother of former Tottenham Hotspur full-back Danny Rose was known to Glovers’ boss Darren Sarll from their time together at the Rotherham United academy and is understood to have been on a month-to-month contract.

When we last heard about him, the manager made it clear he would like to keep the player, but said his budget would not allow it.

Rose was named in the South Shields side in their league match at Whitby Town on Monday afternoon, alongside Jack Bodenham, the former Cardiff City player who has a trial with Yeovil in pre-season.

By by the looks of some of the responses to the tweet issued by the club, there’s some discontent among their fans, as there was at Huish Park.

At the Gloverscast, we never made any secret of the fact we did not agree with Rose’s signing – see Ian’s Five Conclusions on his only 90 minutes for us as an example – and it had absolutely nothing to do with his playing ability.

Darren Sarll wants to write another chapter in the Yeovil Town‘s FA Cup history books when he takes on his old club Stevenage in front of the television cameras on Saturday.

The Glovers’ boss said he has been looking forward to to facing his old club since the draw was made and admitted he would love to have some Cup memories to share having heard his assistant, club legend Terry Skiverton, talk about his so much!

Speaking to the media ahead of the game, Sarll said: “I want to create history so people stop asking me about the history! Terry has been here and seen all those big games, he still talks about marking (Liverpool striker Emile) Heskey, (Jose) Mourinho coming here with Man United.

“They’re all wonderful memories and the reason he talks about them is because they are good memories for him.

“We would like to create our own and that’s what we are in it for because no-one becomes a millionaire being here, it’s for the memories and attachments you can make for people, supporters and players.”

In team news ahead of the weekend, the manager gave the following updates:

  • Midfielder Tom Knowlesshould be available” for selection if he can pass the latest stage of testing after being wrestling slammed to the ground by Dover Athletic defender Danny Collinge in last weekend’s 1-1 draw.
The manager said that he had been “going through protocols” with the Huish Park doctor, Chris Minton, and had not trained all week and missed the midweek win at Wrexham.
  • A decision will be made today (Friday) on whether striker Reuben Reid is available for the second round tie saying the former Cheltenham Town and Plymouth Argyle man was “very close” to being available.
The manager said: “If we can get through today training, we have discussion this afternoon whether he feels he’s in a good enough place to contribute.
“If he’s not, we will leave it one week, if he is, you will definitely see him on the team-sheet tomorrow.
  • Defender Mark Little was expected to have his first running session on Friday.
Both  the former Bristol City full-back and Middlesbrough loanee defender Jack Robinson were targeting a return for the Boxing Day match at Torquay United.
Sarll said: “Hopefully next week we will have him kicking a ball again and then he’s maybe a couple of weeks from joining training.
“Mark always had Boxing Day in mind to be back in the squad, we hope it’s earlier, and the same for Jack who should be back for that Christmas period.
  • The absence of midfielder Mitch Rose was “not about injury, but about resources.” Sarll added: “I would love for him to be with us tomorrow, he’s a brilliant player, but he’s not available.

Talks will take place soon around Mitchell Rose‘s future as a Yeovil Town player, manager Darren Sarll has said.

The midfielder, who joined at the end of September, has not featured since picking up a hamstring injury in the 2-0 defeat at home to Notts County in his first game.

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s trip to Dagenham & Redbridge, Sarll said the 27-year-old was “very close” to being in contention.

He said: “Mitch is very close, so we need to sit down with Mitch and see where that goes from here, but we would love to have him.

“(To have) Mitch Rose (available) would be huge for us, because the depth of our midfield three (Matt Worthington, Dale Gorman, Josh Staunton) is those three midfield players.

“Alex Bradley will probably be used in a wider midfield formation, so we are short in (central) midfield.

The former Notts County and Grimsby player was a free agent when he joined ahead of the 2-1 defeat at Boreham Wood on September 25.

His signing is not without controversy after he was given a nine-month suspended prison sentence in July having been found guilty of an assault which left a 26-year-old woman with a fractured cheekbone.

Sarll also said that striker Reuben Reid could be back in training with the first-team on Monday and said he could even be in contention for a place on the substitutes’ bench in an upcoming game.

After Saturday’s trip to Dagenham, Yeovil travel to Bromley on Tuesday night before facing bottom-of-the-table Dover Athletic at Huish Park next weekend.

The manager said: “Reuben may train for Monday which would be magnificent for him, he turns up every game and you can see the torment in his game.

“Imagine going in to a game next week with Reid on the bench, then you have (Adi) Yussuf, (Joe) Quigley and Reid.

Midfielder Mitchell Rose is playing on a month-to-month contract following his arrival at Yeovil Town, according to manager Darren Sarll.

The former Notts County and Grimsby Town player arrived at Huish Park at the end of last month having played just five games for National League North side Boston United last season.

In the summer, the 27-year-old was given a suspended prison sentence for an assault on a man and a woman which left a 26-year-old woman with a broken cheekbone.

Asked about the decision to sign the player following his first 90 minutes for the club in the goalless draw with Maidenhead United, Sarll said he would encourage people to get to know the player.

He added: “People should understand and know the full extent of any situation before we start beating people down.

“Mitch is an ex-youth team player of mine, I have known him years and if something untoward has happened in his life I have certainly not got any details about it.

“He’s a player I have admired for a while and with Luke Wilkinson out, the options to bring in another central defender were very thin, so we wanted to have Mitch on a month-to-month basis.

Rose, who worked with Sarll during his time in the academy at Rotherham United, played the full 90 minutes of the goalless draw with Maidenhead.

Yeovil Town announced the signing of former Watford and Notts County midfielder Mitchell Rose before the game against Boreham Wood on Saturday.

Signing on for a undisclosed length of time. Rose, the brother of England left back Danny, joins after last leaving Boston United in the National League North,

The move is not without controversy as earlier this year he was convicted of assault and given a 9-month suspended sentence after a 26-year-old woman was left with a fractured cheek bone after an incident in South Yorkshire.
