Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley was full of praise for his side’s ruthless display following their emphatic 6-0 victory over Boston United.
Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Ian Randall after the match, Rowley reflected on an explosive spell that saw the Glovers take total control. Despite the margin of victory, Rowley believed the contest was tight in the early exchanges.
“I thought the game was actually relatively even until the first goal goes in,” Rowley explained. “And obviously, the football phrase is ‘the floodgates opened’ a little bit. Sometimes these things just happen. Everything we were touching Brett [McGavin’s] obviously done unbelievable for his goal.”
Yeovil struck four times in a frantic 12-minute spell to effectively wrap up the points before the break. Rowley revealed he had urged his players not to take their foot off the gas as halftime approached.
“I was kind of trying to say to the lads, ‘Let’s get another goal before halftime here. Let’s not rest on that, let’s try and keep the energy and keep playing forward.’ We all know 2–0 in football is an annoying scoreline really for the team that’s winning. So I was really pleased it ended up going three. The message for the boys was at no point give up on trying to score.”
Rowley also highlighted the impact of his substitutes, who maintained the team’s intensity and helped wrap up a dominant performance in the second half.

“I’m really happy for all the subs that came on the pitch. I thought they were really instrumental in keeping the right energy and vibe,” Rowley said. “The message for the lads coming on was, ‘let’s keep a clean sheet and let’s keep trying to score.’ I think they did an exceptional job at that.”
Prior to kickoff, Yeovil announced the signing of forward Owen Oseni, and Rowley expressed his delight at bringing the 22-year-old to Huish Park.
“I’m a huge fan of Owen. I’ve seen him progress all the way from step six,” Rowley noted. “He’s an exceptional talent, a very unique player. He’s unbelievable in the air, his spring’s great, his timing’s good, and he can obviously score goals. We’re really, really happy to have him in.”

LUKE MCCORMICK CORNER
However, the post-match discussion wasn’t entirely focused on the pitch. When asked by Ian Randall about the absence of key player Luke McCormick, Rowley gave a candid update regarding an internal dispute.
“I’m never going to stand here and talk badly about any player, but the truth is Luke and I had a bit of a dispute,” Rowley revealed. “My job for this club and the dressing room is to always do what I think is best for the team, and at the moment he won’t be playing for me.”
When pressed on whether the player could feature for the club again in the future, Rowley remained tight-lipped: “We’ll have to see, but at the moment, probably not.”

That was amazing. The players have got even fans who were slightly pessimistic like myself believing they can really do something this season.
