Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley, has praised his sides’ ability to win in a physical battle and come through to claim all three points from Kidderminster.
A single Johl Powell goal in the second half separated the sides, inflicting a first home defeat in 90 minutes for the hosts since November, 2025. Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Ian Randall after the game the gaffer said;
“Yeah, I thought they were really, really tough opponent. We knew it was going to be today. I think they’ve got the fourth highest average attendance. I think their home support is fantastic. Our away support today was equally as good. So I thought the crowd made for a really intense affair. It was so difficult to get information onto the lads, hence why I’ve lost my voice a little bit. It was a game of like, just one or two moments here and there that have that have changed the outcome. I’m so proud of the boys to win in this fashion.
It was by no means our most pretty performance. It’s a lot of stuff that that we’re going to review and try and improve on. There’s obviously goalkeeper moments, there’s last-ditch blocks, Johl Powell coming again on for the second week in a row with a late a late winner, so like loads of positives to take from it”
“I’ve seen Johl do that since he was 12 years old. He’s so hungry for a goal. I think when he could sniff the moment where he could go one-on-one with the goalie, there was no way he’s going down and yeah, he’s a superb superb finisher.
Obviously playing two leagues below this last season, but he got 23 goals, I think, 22 goals, so that shows what he’s like in front of goal. A lot to digest in that game, but I think essentially it goes down to a good goalkeeper performance, a really resilient defensive display, and one really really top finishing moment.
I think Kidderminster’s game plan was probably to [frustrate]. I think they changed shape to a degree today. They tried to press us man-for-man a little bit. I think at times we included Jos in our build-up pretty well. When we did that, we looked quite calm and composed. When we forgot to do that, it was more difficult to build. So, again, stuff to review with with the management team and and stuff to improve on. But it was a really ‘bitty’ game, there was a lot of stop-and-starts. They’re a really physical team, really difficult to play against, and I think we dealt with it well.”
Looking ahead a couple home games, against Worthing (on Tuesday) and Boston (on Saturday),
“Two teams that I’m I think are going to be again really tough opponents. Worthing flying, no idea of the results today, but they’ve had some some really good results, obviously a top-class manager. That’ll be our first focus, and then we’ll move on to Boston after that. But yeah, two games that we’ll be we’ll be ready for and and and prepare for as of getting on the coach.
