Yeovil Town have announced defender Morgan Williams has joined fellow National League side York City for “an undisclosed fee“.
Williams, who won the National League South with the Glovers in the 2023-24 season, leaves Somerset after almost 200 appearances in green and white. He has eight league goals to his name for Yeovil, including plenty of late strikes during that title-winning season.
The 26-year-old was out of contract in the summer and would have been available to leave for free at the end of the season.
In a statement, the Glovers said: “The club offered Morgan a long-term contract in an effort to retain his services, however he has chosen to move back up north to be closer to his family.
“We would like to place on record our thanks to Morgan for his commitment and contribution during his time with Yeovil Town, and wish him well for the future.“
In a post on his Instagram, Williams posted a message to Yeovil fans saying: “I just wanted to say a massive thankyou for everything. The memories we’ve made over the years will always have a special place in my heart. Yeovil has been home to my family and I for the past five years and along the way I’ve met some unbelievable people and made friends for life.
“I wish this club nothing but success and all the very best for the future. MW4.”

He has worn no fewer than five different squad numbers across multiple spells, initially on loan from Coventry City in the 2019-20 season, but then on a permanent deal in July 2021. Most recently the coveted number 4 shirt.
Williams played for eight different managers, including those in interim charge, during his time in Somerset, (Darren Sarll, Charlie Lee, Josh Staunton, Chris Hargreaves, Mark Cooper, Richard Dryden, Danny Webb and current boss Billy Rowley) and leaves the club as one of the finest defenders to represent the side in recent years.
His work off the pitch, with his own coaching sessions and community work has made him one of the most well respected and liked members of the squad.
A multiple Glovies’ winner, a National League South champion and a player we are proud to say graced the pitch at Huish Park.
Good luck, Morgs. All the best.

Absolutely gutted. He was Mr Yeovil.
Can’t believe it. Never thought the time would come so sad to see him go
Sorry to hear that Morgan is leaving us. A super player who will be hard to replace. I wish he wasn’t leaving, but accept his decision. Good luck at York, Morgan.
As much as this one hurts, maybe even more so than worthy given how important he is to this side, there are big positives to take. A year ago under different ownership and management, we would’ve torn up his contract and allowed him to leave for free. This time however, we’ve offered him improved terms, and then when he’s expressed a desire to leave, we’ve held out and demanded a fee from Mr Moneybags. Gutted he’s going, but hopefully we use his fee wisely. DFILWF
This does hurt, a lot. Thought he might be the one to follow in Skivos footsteps and become a 10+ year legendary Glover. With us through the good and several bad times but never let his standards drop…nor his smile for the camera. York have got a cracking player, leader and top bloke. I’m no fan of theirs but wish Morgs every success in Yorkshire.
Thank you Morgan for five fantastic years and good luck at York. At least we have a fee for him when he would have left for nothing at the end of the season. It will also give Billy more time with his team building for next season instead of having to search around for a defender in the Summer. For those who say it lacks ambition on Yeovil’s part, that is nonsense. Yeovil offered him a long term deal just as they have done with Luke McCormick.net
