Yeovil Town’s most prolific goalscorer is heading out on loan.

 

Charlie Bateson has joined Tiverton on a dual registration deal which will see the attacker eligible to also represent the Glovers’ U18s.

 

Bateson has clocked up plenty of goals in the academy set up including back to back hat tricks a few weeks ago.

 

He was in the Somerset Men’s Premier Cup squad for the defeat to Paulton and now heads out for more first team experience.

 

We will do our best to keep you up to date with Charlie’s form with our regular loan watch feature, starting tomorrow when Tiverton host Chesham in the Southern League Premier South.

Mark Cooper is relying on the robustness of his younger players for the Glovers fixture pileup.

Speaking at today’s press conference the manager praised his remarkable players amidst ongoing uncertainty. When asked about the signing of Ryan Law and his versatility for the rest of the season he said: “That age group is usually more robust. We’re relying on a lot of players playing a lot of games. We’re trying to stay fit and be durable.

“It’s difficult, we don’t have a physio at the moment. Some players don’t know if they’re injured or not injured, they’re just going through it and giving it everything they’ve got. They could give me so many excuses at the minute, but they come in every morning. just get on with it and put themselves forward to play. Full credit to them, its a remarkable effort.”

How we’re in this position with injured players playing through the pain barrier, a depleted squad and no physio is anyone’s guess. For the second season in a row, uncertainty reigns supreme and after the departure of Ben Richards-Everton to Scunthorpe and an injury to Max Hunt and presumably eluding to the ongoing takeover situation, Cooper said he wouldn’t be able to bring anyone else in.

Speaking on Richards-Everton’s loan move he said: “I think its difficult when you know you haven’t got the support of a lot the crowd and that can really effect your confidence. That was an issue for him. Great Pro, lovely lad and also wanted to move back further North.”

“Max Hunt’s injured, he twisted his ankle over a week ago now. It is what it is. We cant bring anyone in and the minute and we’ve just got to get on with it.”

Will Dawes’ one month loan spell at our Claret and Blue friends over the Dorset border won’t be extended beyond it’s inital month.

In his pre-match press conference, the National League South struggler’s manager Bob Wilkinson confirmed, Dawes would return to Huish Park.

Neil Walton, of the Dorset Echo reported that Wilkinson said that Will had “done nothing wrong”.

Dawes has been absent from recent squads due to the Terras having too many loans, and was the sole goal scorer (and for a short time, goal keeper) for the Glovers in the midweek defeat to Paulton Rovers in the Somerset Men’s Premier Cup.

In total, Dawes played just three times for his temporary side, without scoring.

Still, at least we won’t have to keep mentioning W*ymouth in our loan watch articles, I suppose.

It wasn’t a good night for Yeovil as the Glovers crashed out of the Somerset Men’s Premier Cup at the hands of Paulton Rovers, however a record was broken on the night.

Ollie Haste became the youngest player in history to lead Yeovil Town out in a men’s first team fixture as captain.

The youngster, at just 18 years and 10 months old broke the record held by goalkeeper Nathan Baxter back in 2019 when he was named skipper for a game in League Two at the age of a little over 20.

Our very own historical oracle, Nigel Dyson failed to find any younger captains, neither could we… so we are calling it a new record.

Huge congratulations to Ollie, and his family, for this brilliant achievement.

Scunthorpe United have sealed a loan move for Ben Richards-Everton.

The centre back was signed by Chris Hargreaves last summer and made 19 appearances for the Glovers.

A statement on YTFC.net said: The defender had recently expressed a desire to move closer to home and with this loan move suiting all parties, we have allowed him to join Scunthorpe.

Scunthorpe, who currently sit in 23rd in the National League have been on a recruitment drive since their takeover was completed in January.

We’d wish you the best of luck Ben, but it’s all very tight at the bottom.

Just the one Yeovil Town player out on loan this Tuesday, with Ollie Hulbert racking up another 90 minutes for Leamington.

Unfortunately, his side were on the wrong side of a 1-0 defeat to Buxton a result which drops the Brakes to 22nd in the National League North.

Plymouth Parkway were also in action, but Toby Stephens was not involved in the match day squad, Parkway were 3-0 victors over Dorchester.

There will be no repeat heroics of the 2022 Somerset Men’s Premier Cup triumph as Paulton eliminate Yeovil at the Quarter Final Stage

Mark Cooper named a fairly inexperienced side with plenty of representation from the club’s Under 18 side.

Ollie Haste was the Glovers captain for the evening with only Charlie Wakefield, Malachi Linton and Jordan Young regularly making the first team squad from the outfielders.

Paulton opened the scoring on 35 minutes when Dan McBeam found the net.

Chances came and went for the Glovers with the best of them falling the way of Linton and Will Dawes, who was returning from W*ymouth having not featured for his loan side for a little while.

Despite the introduction of both Benjani Jr and Charlie Bateson, the equaliser proved elusive.

 

That was until 80 minutes, Dawes found the back of the net from the spot after the impressive Haste won the spot kick.

But parity was only short lived as in the 85th minute David O’Hare scored from an Ed Butcher cross.

Salt was shortly added to the wounds as Will Buse was shown a late red card for the Glovers after handling outside his box.

The game finished without further drama, with the Glovers departing their final cup competition of the season.

Paulton head into the final four, whilst Mark Cooper will prep a much more experienced side for the arrival of Notts County on Saturday.

Yeovil Town Under-18s’ participation in the South West Counties’ Youth League’s Gary Else Memorial Cup ended with a defeat at Torquay United on Saturday.

A hat-trick from their hosts’ Ben Aldous inflicted a 3-1 defeat on the young Glovers whose goal came from defender Harrison Foster and ended their involvement in the league’s round robin cup competition.

The Gulls are managed by former Glovers’ defender Ryan Dickson who took over as Under-18s’ coach from Chris Todd when he left Plainmoor to become Chris Hargreaves’ assistant at Yeovil.

The Under-18s will be looking to put the defeat behind them when they travel to Bournemouth-based BRS Coaching Youth in the league next weekend.

For the club’s other age groups, there were two wins, two defeats and a draw for the sides which play as part of the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust.

The Under-12s drew with Torquay United in the Junior Premier League whilst  the Under-14s and Under-16s won theirs against Weston-super-Mare, but the north Somerset side defeated the Glovers’ Under-13s and Under-15s.

The Under-11s were without a fixture and took part in a training session at Huish Park.
