The Glovers Trust is back. After a period of silence over recent months, the group has posted on its social media channels following the announcement by owner Martin Hellier that he is stepping down as chairman.

The Trust’s statement in full reads as follows:

Firstly, an apology. The Glovers Trust, was set up in 2016 to ensure meaningful engagement with supporters and Yeovil Town Football Club. Since the night in Johnson Hall in 2023, various board members have stepped away and we’ve been unable to operate as supporters deserve. For that, we are sorry.

In recent weeks, we have been putting steps in place to re-launch and re-engage with supporters and Yeovil Town FC. The events of the last seven-days are a stark reminder that without supporters at the heart of the club, a much-loved, more than a century old community asset will always be vulnerable.

The Glovers Trust acknowledges the announcement by Martin Hellier that he intends to sell Yeovil Town Football Club and his subsequent resignation as Chairman. We thank Martin for his commitment to Yeovil Town FC and his investment that secured a first championship victory since 2005.

This latest development reinforces the urgent need for a sustainable, long-term vision for our club that that prioritises the interests of supporters and the community. Supporter representation alongside football operations expertise must be at the heart of Yeovil Town’s future. Clubs thrive when they are rooted in their communities, and we believe that a model incorporating meaningful supporter engagement in decision-making is the best way to secure the stability and future of Yeovil Town FC.

We are well aware that due to our inactivity, we are not well-placed to be the authority amongst supporters and nor do we expect to be that. The Glovers Trust, however, has the organisational framework and membership structure to be the safety net that every football club should have across the country.

With a third takeover in seven years potentially on the horizon it is crucial that supporters unite to safeguard Yeovil Town FC. We will continue to push for a future where fans have a meaningful voice in how our club is run and urge any prospective buyer to engage with all supporters and recognise the vital role fans play in the club’s identity and future.

In the next few days, we will email our membership base and begin reinstating our membership platform and website before calling an election for roles on the board. The Glovers Trust can only thrive with the passion and expertise from a broad range of supporters. The board can then set the agenda for the Trust and its future.

Our motto, Achieve By Unity, has never been more appropriate.

The Glovers Trust Board

Our own Ian Perkins has been co-opted on to the Trust board alongside supporter Abby Carter together with existing board members John OakesVern Edmunds and Terri Burt to get the Trust back in a position to hold elections and functioning again.

Mike Hudson was at Huish Park for the much-needed 1-0 win against AFC Fylde and here are his Five Conclusions.

It was a game that needed a moment. And boy did we get one! It wasn’t the most flowing of performances to say the least, and while we had large spells of possessions we struggled to impose ourselves on AFC Fylde, or create any moments of quality in the final third. Throughout the 90 minutes it felt like one of those games that just needed a moment of magic, a lucky bounce, or a controversial decision. But as the clock ticked into added time, it didn’t really feel like anything was coming. However, the boys didn’t give up and Mark Cooper in the technical area was encouraging them to keep going and speed things up during stoppages. A long ball from Aiden Stone was brilliantly controlled by McGuckin who played a lovely ball to the feet of Harvey Greenslade who finished superbly to send the Huish Park crowd into a moment of ecstasy. After the week we have all just lived through, it was a beautiful reminder of what football is all about and why we love this game so much.

Fair play to the team. Despite what anyone might say, Yeovil fans know all too well how matters off the pitch can affect performances on it. Mark Cooper said at the Fans Forum earlier in the season that players are hyper aware of what happens on social media, so no doubt they’ve seen it all this week too. However, the team showed a level of professionalism that has been painfully lacking from other areas of our club of late. It wasn’t the prettiest of performances, but the effort was there, and the result was deserved. It’s probably the points target we were all looking for at the start of the season, and we’ve achieved it with games to spare.

Ferguson deserved man of the match. AFC Fylde set up not to lose and to frustrate. After a shock win at home last time out against Forest Green, they looked every bit a team that have won only three times away from home this season and are fighting for survival. But credit to our defensive unit for ensuring they didn’t have a sniff. Ferguson, Terry and FCD were all superb for me, but I think the sponsors were correct in choosing Ferguson above the rest. With the instability of the club being advertised as for sale on Facebook a few hours before kick off, it seems pointless to talk about plans for next season just yet, but… if there’s any chance we can keep Ferguson. It would make me very happy.

The Yeovil Town fans showed up. I think that there has been an unfair amount of criticism and deflection towards the supporters of late. There is not a single person who walks through the turnstiles of Huish Park wanting the team to lose. No-one supports Yeovil Town for the glory, or expects us to win every week. I thought the fans that wanted to come, and were allowed to come, backed the lads to the end. The players and staff deserved that moment at the end absolutely, but so did the fans. We’ve only seen six wins at home all season, and after the previous seven days, drink up that moment you Glovers. You deserve it.

Something has to change. Just when you think you’ve hit rock bottom hey?! It’s been a rough week, which all began with some pointless comments in last weeks post match presser, and some completely unnecessary (and since deleted) social media activity. Since then we have had the financial accounts for last year released (eek), and then a number of fans being given two year bans for their social media activity (oh the irony!). Usually what happens in Yeovil stays in Yeovil, because let’s face it, no one else cares. However, we have made national news this week for all the wrong reasons. Martin Hellier has supposedly said he will be selling the club (again). Taking him at his word, hopefully this happens quickly. There is a growing and possibly irreparable disconnect. None of this will help to fill empty advertising hoardings or sale season tickets in a few weeks time. The next 12 months will be so important and we need someone at the helm with a vision to unite the land and the club, and just as importantly, the fans and the club.

The Glovers picked up a brilliant 3-0 win at Solihull Moors on Saturday. Ian and Ben catch up with Dave, who made the trip. We talk about the return of Otis Khan, the departure of Frank Nouble and some lovely football. Plus, your GCQs.

It was victory in Solihull for Yeovil Town this afternoon. Goals from Josh Sims (maybe?), Ciaran McGuckin and Alex Whittle lifted spirits following the departure of Frank Nouble earlier in the day. Mark Cooper spoke to BBC Somerset’s Josh Perkins following the match and here’s what he had to say.

Josh Perkins: Mark, it must be said, what a performance from your team.

Mark Cooper: The boys were fantastic. Followed on from a really spirited performance last Saturday. And you know, we asked them for the same endeavor, the same spirit, same commitment, and we showed that again today. And if you do that, you end up sometimes getting a little bit of luck. And we were worthy winners today. And yeah, it feels good.

Josh Perkins: I said on commentary that. I think especially away from home, that’s your best performance of the season. Would you agree?

Mark Cooper: We’ve won some, we’ve won quite a few games away from home, and we won at Wealdstone, we won at Fylde. We’ve won some entertaining games away from home. But in terms of that, we were never really in danger today. There was one at the end, that when you’re 3-0  it up you switch off a little bit. Apart from that, we were really comfortable, and our organisation was really good, and we looked solid. Compact.

Josh Perkins: The pick of three goals, really, is Alex Whittle’s. We’ll get to his. The first goal. Josh Sims will, will claim it, I’m sure goes down as an own goal. But just your thoughts on that Josh Sims/ own goal and Ciaran McGuckins goal as well, because that was taken well.

Yeovil Town celebrate Ciaran McGuckin’s goal.

Mark Cooper:  We’ve had to change the way we play because we haven’t got how we worked all preseason to play. We’ve got most of those players missing. So we’ve had to change to a 4-3-3, and that’s then about getting the ball to your wide players. And the work has been me screaming at the two wide players every time they get it to take people on. Simsy [Josh Sims], the last couple of games has been good. We’ve needed that from him, because he’s had a slow start for us, and I spoke to him about it, and he’s got so much ability. But, if he can keep that going and get better and better then we’ve got a real player there. But his goal was great, and then a great move for Ciaran’s goal. He needed that. Like I said to you before the game, if in January, Frank had gone and I’d have said we were bringing Ciaran in to replace Frank, everyone would have been cock-a-hoop, but because he’s had a stop-start time since he came back, it’s, ‘why have we done this? Why have we done that?’ So I’m really pleased for him. He got horrendous tackle in the first half, had to go off for that.

Josh Perkins: Good finish from him. And Alex Whittle, what a finish from him. I immediately saw him wheel away in celebration to the technical area and to you just talk me through that.

Mark Cooper: “The best clearance I’ve ever seen. I’m pleased. He’s a good character, and that’s a great finish for him. It’s one of them that either flies in or ends up on the runway at the airport down the road. But no, really pleased. I’m really pleased for fans. 240 proper fans, again, travel three hours, and they cheer the team on from start to finish. No negativity. And it’s really good. Maybe it’s a coincidence, when the fans get behind you, you can win a game.

Josh Perkins: Well, I noticed Khan as well, and his his reintroduction to Yeovil. I thought he played really well today.

Mark Cooper: Yeah, he’s a good footballer. Understands the game. He knows where to be, with the ball, without the ball, and, yeah, really pleased.

Josh Perkins: Just away from this game and in terms of injuries, I know you’re probably sick of hearing this, but any any closer to seeing the likes of McGavin and Wannell?

Mark Cooper: Brett McGavin, I don’t think we’ll play again this season. Horrendous tackle last Saturday against York. So Brett, that’s another key starter we’re missing, but we’re not allowed to mention that. Are we? One thing I have learned is that at Yeovil it doesn’t matter what you’ve got to be available. If you had eight under 12 players, you’d still be expected to win, and that’s the deal. So I’d just like to say thank you to the Chairman. He’s been steadfast in the support for players and staff. A proper Chairman, that’s what you need. He lets us get on with the job. He understands the situation we’re in.
