Darren Sarll has spoken to YTFC.net about the latest Glovers signing, Mark Little, emphasising what a coup Little’s signing is for Yeovil Town.

The Yeovil manager said: “This is brilliant, brilliant signing for us. This is a lad who’s not even played in League Two. This is a League One, Championship fullback. Everyone I’ve spoken to has told me (he’s a) brilliant character, good talker. Were almost trying to reinvent a different style of footballer to Carl Dickinson. That age, that experience, that level that they’ve played at, they have a standard to their work. They understand the things you have to do to in order to get promoted and Mark covers all those boxes.”

The 32-year-old’s signing from Bristol Rovers was announced yesterday, and adds ‘character’ and importantly to the manager, another ‘talker’. Sarll said: “It’s a lot of character that comes in. Same with Grant Smith – brilliant talker. Same with Morgan Williams – brilliant talker. There’s a theme, I know. It’s such an important part and we were very quiet last year because of our age and inexperience. Mark’s a coup for the football club.”

Sarll also explained his shock when Little gave him a call, and had a conversation with former Glover Charlie Lee about his ex-teammate.

“I was shocked when I was phoned. I then when I spoke with Charlie Lee (who was previously a teammate of Little), Charlie was shocked he’d phoned. Mark’s driving it. Mark’s driving the decision. Marks drove the process. (They’re) brilliant people to deal with. I must say, agents get a lot of stick, Mark’s agent was magnificent. Good guy, very sensible, very reasonable,” Sarll said.

Ex-Yeovil fullbacks Luke Ayling and Ryan Dickson also praised the signing on Twitter.

Former Yeovil Town manager Paul Sturrock (the less said about his spell the better) has taken up a new role in management and starting a club south-east Cornwall called Menheniot Pilgrims.

Playing in tangerine and green, he plans to build a team of 16 to 21-year-olds with a view to developing them to play higher up in the pyramid.

Sturrock told Plymouth Live: “I like taking training and coaching. I miss it, so I have decided to start this amateur team of under-21s. I can work with people individually and the aim is to get them to play at a higher standard. I’m not averse to having a couple of boys over 21. I might need one or two stalwarts to help us through and get us on our feet, but it really is for 16 to 21s. We will start at the bottom and hopefully over the next two or three years we will get better and better.”

“I haven’t got a date yet but I’m getting Lux Park for a trial game around the middle of July. The essence is that we get enough players to have a trial game and then I decide what ones I’m going to sign. They could come from Plymouth, Liskeard, Callington. Anything like that.”

Nicknamed Argyle after the club where he enjoyed plenty of management success, this club definitely feels like an lockdown-inspired project for the Scot.

He said: “There is a pitch in place, there are goals in place. It’s a wee bit slopey but, again, it’s amateur football. It will do for the first couple of years and we can see what we do as we go along. The village is kind of crying out for something like this. There are a lot of older people and they don’t have that much to do in the village. So they can come along and watch a game on a Saturday afternoon. It’s something to do, and they don’t have far to walk.”

Sturrock added: “I’m going to get forms sent to me about joining the Duchy League. I don’t know what league they are going to put us in. I would imagine the bottom one to start off with. And I have got to get the parish council to give us the nod that we can use the pitch regularly. They have had a wee meeting about it and they are looking forward to it. Over the next couple of days I will join up with two or three of them and we will make sure we get it all sorted.”

Yeovil Town FC received a loan of £689,538 from Sport England after an agreement on 12 February 2021.

The loan was given to Yeovil Football & Athletic Club Ltd and was created as a legal charge on the club on 17 March 2021.

In Scott Priestnall’s most recent update to supporters 110 days ago, he confirmed the club had been offered a loan which would help them see the season through.

We asked YTFC the following:

Can the club confirm the accuracy of the figure?
What it has been used for?
How long it will take to repay it?
What is the plan to repay it?

In response to our questions, the club gave us this statement: “Similarly to football clubs across the National League, we have taken the SE (Sport England)  loan to replace the lost revenue from this season.”

This information was received after we put in a Freedom of Information request to Sport England last month.

Harry Kewell has dived into the hot seat at Barnet as the club’s new First Team Head Coach.

The Australian, who is no stranger to diving, will ‘spearhead a new era’ at the Hive alongside Dean Brennan, who has left his role at Wealdstone to become Head of Football.

Speaking to the Barnet website, Kewell dived: “Barnet is a fantastic football club but we need to get the Club back on the right path and get going back in the right direction. The Chairman and myself have put a really exciting backroom team together, with the view of a collective unit being the driving force behind a successful future for the football club. That starts with me as a Head Coach, but also with all of the staff, players and of course the supporters, we need to be a collective group with the ambition of bringing brighter days back to this incredible Club. There’s plenty of hard work to do to get us going in the right direction and I can’t wait to get started!”
