Match winner Morgan Williams has said he never doubted his Yeovil Town team-mates had it in them to pick up three points at Worthing this weekend.

The defender headed home the winner seven minutes in to 12 minutes of second half stoppage time to move the Glovers three points clear at the top of the National League South after an 86th minute penalty looked to have snatched a draw from the jaws of victory.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins after the game, he said: “It is crazy, it should never be a penalty. I think the referee said (Jake Wannell) hit him with his elbow, it’s not right. But as soon as they scored I looked at Wans and said we’ve got enough in this team to win the game.

We have said the game is played until the end, 100 minutes today, and we know we have got enough in the team to go and win it. It doesn’t matter if we go 1-0 down or 2-0 down we feel like we can win the game.”

The defender’s goal, his second of the season, triggered #scenes in the away end and he admitted the feeling of scoring was a sweet one – but breaking the hoodoo of playing of non-traditional surfaces (he said it, not us!) was even sweeter.

Yeovil have lost their previous two matches – away at Hemel Hempstead Town and Havant & Waterlooville – when playing on a pitch other than grass.

Morgan said: “It doesn’t get any  better than that. I would have loved a 1-0 and the clean sheet and an easy game, but these games are never going to be easy so I am absolutely delighted to get that goal. It was a great ball in from Jordan Maguire-Drew and we know he’s got that talent.

In spells I think we were really good today. It is going to be difficult on this surface because we have lost our last two games on it, so it was about changing that. We don’t want teams to think we cannot play on an astroturf, so it was good to get the win today and the three points – and now teams will be thinking ‘crikey, they can play on both surfaces.’

The 24-year-old admitted he is enjoying playing in the middle of defence having been used in a number of positions during his time at Huish Park, and enjoying playing alongside Wannell.

He added: “We help each other a complement each other and it is good to get a partnership with any defender. If he makes a mistake, I help him and if I make a mistake, I help him. I am really enjoying playing in the middle of defence I think it is three years since I have played there.”

With second-placed Taunton Town and third-placed Bath City both losing on Saturday, Morgan admitted the win was important, but said his focus was on the next game – the small matter of a visit from the seagull bothering old enemy (W*ymouth, if you were wondering) to Huish Park on Tuesday night.

He said: “It is massive, but we just have to keep winning games and taking it game by game. We just have to focus on Tuesday night which is a big one and get three points there. Those (derby) games are always massive and the atmosphere is always incredible and we just have to focus on that and get three points.

Following on from the news of the rescheduled date for the Glovers trip to Bath two more dates have been etched into the diary.

Firstly, as a result of progress to the first round of the FA Cup, Yeovil’s trip to Dartford needed a new date. This has now been confirmed as a 7.45pm kick off on Tuesday 19th December.

Secondly, the Somerset Men’s Premier Cup tie vs Clevedon was originally meant to clash with the first team’s trip to Torquay during Week Commencing 6th of November.

To avoid that clash, it’s been brought forward a week, now taking place on Wednesday 1st of November – please note that is a 7.30 kick off.

Yeovil Town have announced the signing of Exeter City forward Sonny Cox on a loan deal until January.

This is not the Grecians’ forwards first foray into the National League South, with a spell at Bath already on his CV.

He’s also spent time at Weston-super-Mare on loan too.

This season, he’s played a total of 13 times across League One and Cup for his parent club.

The 19-year old links up with the Glovers ahead of this week’s trip to Worthing.

Welcome to Huish Park, Sonny!

It’s becoming a regular occurrence, another Yeovil player makes the official Vanarama team of the week.

But, when you’re a centre half and you thrash a 2nd minute goal into the back of the net against higher division opposition… what do you expect?

Jake Wannell listed below, with some others who also did good things in the FA Cup.

Another loan watch round up incoming, Saturday saw a couple of Glovers in action, but we actually want to start in midweek.

Ollie Haste was a last minute hero for Dorchester as he bagged a 97th minute equaliser at Gosport Borough on Wednesday night, sparking wild scenes and some awesome photos – Benjani Jr was an unused sub in the game, just 24 hours after playing, and scoring for the Glovers in the SMPC.

On to Saturday’s action and we start with yet ANOTHER goal for Charlie Bateson.

Shepton Mallet were away at top of the table Falmouth and three first half goals did the damage in a 3-1 win it was Bateson’s opener that got the ball rolling.

Next up, Aidan Skiverton marked his debut for Sherborne Town with a goal, young Skivo scored the Zebra’s first of the game to get back on level terms against Baffins Milton Rovers, but BMRFC fought back to win 3-2.

Finally, Lewis Williams clocked up 90 more minutes for Tiverton, but was left frustrated after his side let slip a 2-0 lead against Walton and Hersham to draw 2-2.

Yeovil Town opening goal hearo Jake Wannell told the club’s Youtube channel that he was happy to keep contributing with goals as the Glovers’ progressed into the first round proper of the FA Cup.

“It felt good, they can take the ball home and we can go into the next round,

On a personal level, I do set myself a target, I am one away – I probably should have had another one last week, missed from two yards, it was harder to miss last week – we go again next week.

I set (a target) five for the season as a centre back, that’s quite high, they’re (the squad) are now all saying they want ten, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

Four goals already and the former Taunton man wants more, especially with the group doing so well.

“At home, we seem to be clicking really well and that shows in the dressing room after, that we’re all together, it’s good times at the minute.

We knew about (Southend’s) squad struggles coming into it, we also knew their strengths and I felt like we dealt with that really well today especially as a back four/back five at some points.

The unit was really strong I felt like tactically today we were we spot on to get a clean sheet against a good team in the National League was was a good bonus.”

Yeovil Town striker Rhys Murphy has been named in the official Vanarama Team of the Week.

His brace against Aveley helped send the Glovers top of the table and has been rewarded with a place in the sponsors’ team of the week – and a place in our hearts… but you knew that bit anyway.

It’s the second time the Bagsman has been named in the TOTW after also making the cut in a special FA Cup version after hit Hat trick v Stoneham.
