Yeovil Town’s Ollie Hughes has followed in the footsteps of Corey Koerner and Ollie Haste by being called up to the England Colleges squad.

Hughes, who has appeared on the bench a number of times for the senior side in the League and played in the Somerset Men’s Premier Cup clash earlier this season has starred for the Under 19s this campaign.

Hughes has been selected from a number of open trials throughout October, including one at SGS College in Bristol.

The next step was a phase two trial in Shrewsbury this past weekend, Hughes now goes forward for selection for a fixture against England Independent Schools XI on December 10th and a further fixture against their Welsh counterparts in the new year.

The 2026 schedule also includes a tour to Italy in March.

Hughes has been playing for both Sherborne and Plymouth Parkway as part of his progression plan with the Glovers this season.

Congratulations from us at the Gloverscast on your selection, Ollie!

George Nurse’s loan deal at Yeovil Town has come to an end with BBC Radio Shropshire saying that he has returned to Shrewsbury Town.

Nurse made his debut in the defeat to Rochdale, making three games appearances in total, but didn’t make the match day squad for either of the last two games.

Yeovil Town will face Maidstone United  at home in the FA Trophy Third Round.

Ties will be played on Saturday 13th December, winners  receive £4500, losers receive £1250.

The draw was made live on TalkSport2 by former Exeter and Swindon forward Sam Parkin.

Rhys Murphy tucks home the equaliser against Maidstone when the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Huish Park

James Daly has spoken of his – and his teammates – frustration after the Glovers fell 1-0 to Southend on Saturday. A 92nd minute winner saw the Shrimpers take all three points. The forward spoke to BBC Radio Somerset’s Jack Killah after the game:

“It’s a gutter, I think, as well as we played first half, I think the intent was there, the work rate, the attitude, it’s what you want to see. It’s the bare minimum you need when you’re, in a rut like this and you’re not getting results, every man carried themselves brilliantly in terms of their work rate and effort but, when you’re in a way like this and you’re not getting the results things can go against you, so, we’re just bitterly disappointed really.

Our intent, our pressing definitely, as I say, work rate, a togetherness that we haven’t really seen, been isolated at times, the second ball recoveries were brilliant today, I think our reaction when we lost it, and to break as well was good. Both boxes, brilliant as well, Jed [Ward] made some unbelievable saves, and I think decision making in the final third let us down today, including myself.”

The Glovers have failed to score if five of their last six league games, and only three sides (Brackley 13, Braintree 15, Truro 17) have scored fewer this season, speaking on their troubles in front of goal, he said;

“It’s disappointing, it’s going to take one of them that comes off a shin pad or comes off a knee and go in, and that’s what we need right now is a bit of a break and that happens on the training ground, get back to work and we’re all in agreement, we need more emphasis on crosses, we need more quantity getting into the final box, the final third, then something will come our way, something will drop, if we keep playing how we are with the work rate, and intent, things will change.

I think the only way out of these situations is [Richard Dryden] goes to one side and you’ve got to work as hard as possible and something will drop, so we’re bitterly disappointed, we’re gutted in there, but it’s back to the training ground on Monday and keep going.”

Yeovil head to Morecambe next week, a side who have conceded 48 goals so far and he wants his side to really up their game.

“I wouldn’t put the emphasis on [doing things] differently, there’s positives to take, you’ve got something from that, definitely, I think, more final third entries, decision making, including myself at times, today wasn’t good enough, but as a basis, a foundation of the work rate and intent was good, it’s something to build on, it’s not all bad.”

Yeovil Town were spirited in defeat against Scunthorpe United on Saturday and despite losing the game, one or two players did show their quality.

Your Man of the Match on the day was Port Vale loanee James Plant, the winger testing the ‘keeper with a cracking effort in the first half and tried to pull the strings to get the Glovers back into the game.

Jed Ward was second in the voting – meaning he makes the mythical podium for a 14th time this season! Harvey Greenslade was back in third.

Ref, Referee, Match Official

A familiar face will take charge of the Glovers this weekend as we welcome Southend United to Huish Park.

Scott Jackson is predominantly an EFL official these days, taking charge of a dozen or so games above the National League level this campaign.

In 14 appearances this season, he’s dished out 48 yellows and two reds.

We’ve seen him a fair few times at Huish Park, in fact, this weekend’s game will take him to 10 Glovers games officiated in his career across league and National Cup – the joint most alongside Woking, Wealdstone and Maidenhead, but it’s actually slightly more than that, as he also took charge of the Somerset Men’s Premier Cup final win over Bath City a couple of years ago.

We last had Mr Jackson in charge back in the 2022/23 season, in a home 0-0 draw with Wealdstone, Owen Bevan was sent off on that day for a rather … robust… challenge, no real arguments from us.

However, roll back the calendar to Boxing Day of 2021, he took charge of a disastrous 3-0 defeat to Torquay United, he sent off Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and then, after the final whistle, also gave Grant Smith his marching orders, which would mean he would miss the New Years’ game against Torquay and, the FA Cup clash against Bournemouth – so basically, Jackson is at fault for the whole ‘Dillon Barnes thing’ (well, ok, not quite).

Beyond that, he was in charge when Rhys Murphy scored a hat-trick to put the claret and blue Seagull Botherers in their place earlier that season, and also when we won 3-1 in home ties against Barnet and Kings Lynn – overall, we have a rather good record in games that Mr Jackson has officiated.

Mr Jackson will be assisted by Ryan Saward and Ivan Stankovic with Neil Pratt marshalling the dugouts.

Owen Bevan sees red from referee Scott Jackson.

Yeovil Town have announced the signing of young Watford midfielder Leo Rameriz-Espain on a short term loan.

The 19-year old joins the Glovers on a deal until the end of January, 2026.

He’s been with the Hornets since the age of 10, and has worked his way through the ranks.

An FA Youth Cup semi final run was rewarded with two appearances for the first team in the 2024/25 Carabao Cup, coming off the bench in wins against Plymouth and MK Dons.

Predominantly a central midfielder, he will create competition with the likes of Max Jolliffe, Luke McCormick and Brett McGavin.

He’ll wear the number 28 shirt during his stay and will be available for selection this weekend.

Tickets are now on sale for any Yeovil Town fans making the short trip up to Hartlepool in early December.

The game is on Saturday 6th of December – kicking off at 3pm

Yeovil Town have announced the addition of Jamie Hedges to a head of recruitment role.

Hedges, had previously worked at Bristol Rovers, King’s Lynn Town and most recently Aldershot Town where he worked with current Glovers’ boss, Richard Dryden.

In a statement on the club’s website on Monday, he said: “Absolutely delighted to be joining Yeovil. The discussions with Prabhu, Nicholas, and Stuart were exactly what I wanted to hear, and it’s a project I am fully bought into. I believe I can make a real positive impact and help get this club back where it belongs.

He joined Rovers at the ripe old age of 23 having previously held volunteer scouting roles for the Gas.

A lifelong Rovers fan (but we wont hold that against him), he’s been credited with helping put together the FA Trophy winning side at Aldershot, which included the newest addition to the Glovers, Dan Ellison.

Hedges announced that he left the Shots in early November following their change of manager, with John Coleman joining.

He recently served a two-month ban for betting related offences and made headlines after accusing former Rovers’ manager Joey Barton of bullying.
