Yeovil Town manager Mark Cooper has challenged his team to be be ‘relentless’ in the search for more wins.

The Glovers have gone 12 (twelve) wins in a row across league and FA Cup with a 3-1 win over pre-season title favourites, Torquay on Tuesday night.

Despite a faultless first half, the manager thought they could have caused the Gulls even more damage.

“First half, I thought we were outstanding, I thought we totally controlled the game with the ball, passed and played and created some unbelievable chances, the only frustration for me was that it was 2-0 (at half time) because it’s a crap score line. Because then the mentality at half time is ‘Do we hold what we have?’ or ‘Do we go?’, and I wanted us to go and push and score more, but we went into our shells a bit, and didn’t dominate the ball and gave Torquay encouragement to attack us.

“I’ve just raised that with the players, we have to be braver than that, keep passing the ball and opening chances and go and score four, five and six if we can, rather than be 2-1 and we’re having to make changes and we’re hanging on a bit, with long balls and crosses into the box.”

Goals from former Torquay player (ahem) Frank Nouble and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, gave the Glovers a 2-0 lead, but the gaffer seemed to suggest he really wanted to see his side dominate the second half as much as the first – but in failing to do so, gave Gary Johnson’s side a chance to get back into the game.

“But, every time we win a game, the pressure intensifies, and you can see the players ‘We’ve got to get over the line” rather than going and expressing ourselves.

(The first two goals were) brilliant plays, pass, move, one-twos, I thought we should have been four up at half time, Murph missed – unlike him – missed a couple of great chances, I thought the game should have been won at half time and like I said, when it’s 2-0 you give a good team a bit of encouragement.

We were negative instead of forward, we stepped backwards in our general play rather than stepping on to them and we were too far away from the ball to get pressure on the shot, he has a free shot and it’s a great strike, but that was just our mentality at the time.”

“Jake told me he always scores at Torquay so it seemed apt to put him on”

But, it was the subs bench to the rescue as Jake Hyde, fresh from replacing Rhys Murphy, nodded home a set piece to put the game beyond doubt.

“Jake told me he always scores at Torquay so it seemed apt to put him on, and Murph put a great shift in on Saturday and Hydey’s come on and got us the goal that’s sealed it.

“They (the fans) were great and so they should be, their team has won twelve on the trot and like I’ve said before, I don’t care what level of football you play at, to win twelve games in a row takes a hell of a lot of doing and full credit goes to the players, they’ve been absolutely magnificent. We want to keep going, I said to them in there, who’s to say you can’t keep going? Go for it, let’s keep going.”

“It’s still only three points, if we got ten points for it, we’d be really, really happy, listen, it’s another three points, we have to keep focused, we have to keep humble and we have to keep working and training hard… the key word for us is relentless and that’s our word that we use everyday.”

Good Luck everyone!

Another week, another Glovers’ representative in the official Vanarama Team of the Week.

Rhys Murphy‘s goal(s?) helped the Glovers pull off their second Cup upset in the FA Cup by beating National League side Gateshead.

Well in Rhys!

When is a Loan Watch not a ‘Loan Watch’?

There wasn’t a lot of football on offer for the plethora of Glovers out on loan…

Will Buse did get himself 90 Minutes of football for Bath City, they lost 1-0 to Torquay down at Plainmoor in a National League South clash, only a single Shaun Donnellan (remember him?) goal separated the sides.

There were postponed games which prevented the rest getting any game time, that list in full; (deep breath) Lewis Williams (Tiverton), Ollie Haste (Dorchester), Benjani Jr (Melksham), Charlie Bateson (Shepton Mallet), Jacob Shore, Max Dyer and Mason Alden (Welton Rovers), Aidan Skiverton (Sherborne), Josh Haskett, Jack Bareham, Fin Haste (Gillingham)

We finish with better news though that Malachi Linton would have been in contention to make his Taunton Town return today against Farnborough in the National League South, but that match, like so many others, fell foul to the weather!

The Football Association have published a list of officials for this Weekend’s FA Cup first round tie.

For those of you interested in those kind of things… here’s who will be officiating Yeovil Town v Gateshead (hopefully)

33. Yeovil Town v Gateshead
Referee: Gary Parsons
Assistants: Thomas Staten and Ryan Saward
4th Official: Samuel Fudge

As far as we can tell, Mr Parsons refereed the Glovers four times last season;

the 2-1 home defeat to Barnet (the one where we go Dale Gorman-ed),

the 0-0 draw at Notts County (the one with the Parma Violet Party Poopers in front of a record National League crowd),

and the 1-0 win over Eastleigh (the one before it all starting going wrong.)

we also exited the FA Trophy on Penalties to Dorking Wanderers at the watch of Mr Parsons.

Welcome to Somerset once again Mr Parsons, I hope you brought your wellington boots!

Yeovil Town’s young Glovers have crashed out of the Somerset Men’s Premier Cup after a Wednesday night clash in Clevedon, losing out 5-1.

Yeovil named just a few full professionals in the starting line up, with Lewis Williams, Ollie Haste and Benjani joining Charlie Bateson and the rest of the Under 18s set up.

The game’s kick off was delayed by 15 minutes, a tannoy announcement seemingly suggested that only eight of the YTFC side had arrived in good time… and the kit wasn’t in town either.

When all 11 were in the vicinity of the HAND Stadium, and wearing the kit, the home side got off to a rapid start going 2-0 up inside ten minutes, the hectic opening continues with the Glovers getting one back from Charlie Bateson, a clever header from a Mason Alden set piece – carrying on his excellent goal scoring form from his loan at Shepton Mallet.

However, the one goal deficit was soon back at two with Owen Punselie pouncing to slot beyond Williams.

The rest of the half lacked much in the way of quality chances, with the chaos of the first 15 minutes not replicated for the full 45.

The second half started off much in the same fashion as the first, with Clevedon in the ascendancy.

As the conditions started to worsen, the quality of football maybe wasn’t at its absolute best, the Glovers struggling to complete the final pass and take the game by the scruff of the neck.

A fourth goal was for Clevedon wasn’t too far away and on the hour mark, Sol Kent put the game probably beyond the Glovers.

Under 18s manager, Matt Percival made changes to get back into the game, but despite some decent link up play between Benjani Jr and Bateson up front, chances weren’t forthcoming.

Well, at least not for the Glovers, Sam Beresford would complete a hat trick with a well worked goal from a quick set piece.

Despite the score line, the youngsters do deserve credit for their efforts, on more than one occasion, Haste, Skiverton Jnr, and ‘keeper Lewis Williams kept the score down with blocks, challenges and saves.
With Mark Cooper and Josh Staunton in attendance, could one or two young lads have put themselves into the equation for Saturday with nine substitutes able to be named in the FA Cup proper?

The result means the quadruple is no longer on for Yeovil, it’ll have to be just the treble instead.

No less than three of Yeovil’s October opponents have been given slaps on the rest (and a little bit more), by the FA in the Monthly Charges wrap up.

Starting with way back in August, Havant and Waterlooville manager James Collins has been given a fine and a touchline ban after saying some naughty words in our clash with them earlier in the season.

Breach of FA Rule E20.1: It is alleged that in or around the 51st minute of the fixture, his language was abusive and/or insulting towards a Match Official.

Mr Collins admits the Charge and accepts Standard Penalty 1 (£200 fine and a 1 match touchline ban).

Roll it on to the clash with Weston-super-Mare, the game which started the 10-match winning run across league and FA Cup – well, their manager Scott Bartlett has been hit with a couple of charges this month, but one does involve the Glovers match down on the seaside.

Breach of FA Rule E3 – It is alleged that his conduct in or around the 90th minute of the fixture, which led to his dismissal, was improper.

Mr Bartlett has until 6pm on 8 November 2023 to provide a response.

Finally, remember after the game against Aveley, when Mark Cooper said this post-match;

“There was a horrendous sending off on Morgan Williams, a blatant kick which the guy then stayed on the pitch after the linesman told the ref to red card [him] for violent conduct…”

Well, not that it makes much difference now, but Charlee Hughes has got three matches on the sidelines to think about his actions after he was deemed to have committed… you guessed it, violent conduct.

Michael Smith has been named in the official Vanarama Team of the Week after his Man of the Match performance in the win over Braintree.
The Northern Ireland international is in the mythical team alongside two former Glovers in attack; Reuben Reid and Ben Seymour.

Good Work, Michael!

Do you know what we need around here..? Even MORE loads out on loan. Well, you’re in luck.

We stick in the National League South though first, with goalkeeper Will Buse making his second start for his adopted Romans at Bath City. They were overturned 2-0 by Worthing dropping them down a couple of places in the table.

Off down the divisions below, at Dorchester defender Ollie Haste played the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw at home to Hayes and Yeading in the Southern League Premier South

Benjani Junior had been recalled from the Magpies this past week, but he was back out on loan and straight into the starting line up at Melksham Town in Southern League Division One South, that’s one tier lower than Dorchester.

He might not have scored, but he did help his side to a 3-2 win at home to Mousehole.

Shepton Mallet and Charlie Bateson went down 4-1 against Bridgwater United, whilst there were no games for Tiverton (Lewis Williams), Gillingham (Haskett, Bareham & F, Haste, Lock) and Sherborne (Skiverton Jr), with plenty of young Glovers left bemoaning the rain.

However, we have three names to add to the Loan Watch list over at Welton Rovers. Under-18s’ players Jacob Shore, Max Dyer and Mason Alden all made their debuts in a 4-1 win over Millbrook in the Toolstation Western League.

Including Malachi Linton – who is still recovering from injury before returning to Taunton – my latest count is that the Glovers currently have 14 players out on loan at various clubs.
