Yeovil Town’s Under 18s striker Benjani Jnr has signed his first professional contract with the club.

Having been something of a goal machine for the young Glovers last season and in the early part of this season he has signed on to become the team’s third professional player in three years to come from within.

He follows in the footsteps of Toby Stephens and Ollie Haste who have made the step up to the first team squad.

Benjani has already represented the first team in the successful 2021-22 Somerset Premier Cup campaign but will be hoping to make a mark in the upcoming months across all first team fixtures.

Benjani is the son of former Portsmouth and Man City striker Benjani Mwaruwari.

A huge congratulations to all involved!

Toby Stephens

Toby Stephens made his debut for Plymouth Parkway on Saturday after making his second loan move from Huish Park.

Stephens, who had spent a couple of months with Truro City where he found first-team minutes hard to come by, played the full 90 minutes and a pivotal role in Parkway’s 1-0 at Harrow Borough in Southern League Premier Division South, the same division he played in with table-topping Truro.

The Parkway side also included two former Glovers with striker Ben Seymour starting and ex-academy talent Pedro Borges on the bench as part of his loan deal from Exeter City.

Congratulations on the win, Toby.

Yeovil Town midfielder Matt Worthington says his side need to ‘up their game’ in the replay against Taunton on Tuesday after the Glovers were held to a 0-0 draw in the FA Cup.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins after the stalemate, he used a word we’ve banned on the Gloverscast, so we’ve used some asterisks…

“A replay on Tuesday is not ideal, I don’t think we hurt them enough today, it was difficult at times as they put a lot of bodies behind the ball and we had a lot of possession, we needed to open them up a bit more and drag them out a try to hurt them which we didn’t do.

“We’re very fr*str*t*d, but we can go and win the game on Tuesday.

We started slow in the first 20 minutes… they had a couple of chances but we improved in the second bit of the first half, we had a lot of ball and I feel we should have capitalised, so yeah, very fr*str*t*d.”

“Us midfielders were getting the ball deep and us midfielders were struggling to break them down, but yeah… fr*str*t*ng”

Thankfully, that was the last of Matt’s use of ‘that’ word. He gave Taunton some credit, but admitted that the replay would require more from the squad.

“Fair play to them, they had a game plan of staying in the game as long as they could putting bodies behind the ball trying to make it as hard as possible for us as they could and they did that, so credit to them.

But we need to be better opening them up and scoring goals.”

“We need to up our game on Tuesday, 100%, it’s going to be a difficult game again at their place so, we need to be on it.”

Worthington said that he hoped the fitness of the Glovers would help with the quick turnaround and said how much he was enjoying playing with ‘freedom’ in this Chris Hargreaves side.

The Glovers will find out their potential first round opposition on Monday evening before heading across the county on Tuesday evening for the replay.

Chiori Johnson

Fresh from being named in the Non League Paper’s team of the day, Chiori Johnson is also in Vanarama’s team of the week too.

The official league sponsor has Johnson in after his winning goal against Solihull Moors gave the Glovers their second win of the season – with a ‘cleano’ too!

Nice work, Chiori!

The Peacocks are aready due to visit Huish Park in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round next weekend and no doubt we will probably draw them in the FA Trophy too.

Yeovil Town striker Ollie Hulbert has returned to the Glovers after his one-month stint at Gloucester City came to an end.

He made three appearances for the National League North side, scoring once on his debut against AFC Telford United last month..

During his spell, the Tigers played two FA Cup ties which the Yeovil man was not given permission to play in restricting his opportunity for more minutes.

Hulbert now returns to fight for his place at Huish Park and will be available for selection for this Saturday’s game home game against Solihull Moors.

It leaves just Toby Stephens out on loan at Truro City at the moment, with Ollie Haste recalled from his spell at the Cornish club in the week and goalkeeper Max Evans’ stint at Larkhall Athletic ended by injury.

The Football Association has confirmed the three-match ban that faces Glovers’ forward Gime Toure following his red card in the 1-0 defeat at Southend United.

His dissmissal has been listed as “Kicking – Violent Conduct” and comes under Law 12

After the match, Chris Hargreaves said the front man would not only have to suffer missing out for a few games but would also be paying in the way of a fine for his misdemeanour.

As it stands, the red card applies to all first-team fixtures, so he will miss games against Dorking Wanderers on Tuesday night, Solihull Moors at home next weekend and and the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round Fixture slated for the weekend of October 15th.

He’ll be available again for the away game at Oldham Athletic on October 22nd

Yeovil Town skipper Josh Staunton has said that Tuesday night’s game at Dorking Wanderers is a “must win” following the Glovers’ 1-0 defeat to Southend United.

A clearly emotional and almost angry skipper spoke to BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins following the game.

“We can’t keep making excuses and feeling sorry for ourselves, it’s times like this we have to earn your stripes as a Yeovil player. Anyone who was here to day can tell those on the pitch gave their all for the club, but we have to everything right to get it right by Tuesday.

“There’s no point dressing over it, we need a win, we needed a win today, we need a win even more now because the games are ticking by. We need an ugly win, it doesn’t matter how we get it really, performances have been okay, but they don’t bring us results.”

When asked if the team had discussed if the midweek trip to Dorking  represented a ‘must win‘, the response was clear: “Absolutely.”

“Anyone who doesn’t know that in is kidding themselves a bit. We know today was a big go for us and this was an important week for us. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb, shot ourselves in the foot (with the dismissal of striker Gime Toure after 17 minutes) and we can’t let it be a hangover for Tuesday and an excuse for Tuesday. It’s a case of brushing this off and getting right for Tuesday whatever way we have to do it.

“We have got to start turning performances into results, it’s as simple as that. We’ve had some good home performances and they’ve come to one point. We’ve got to start – I don’t know, I’m a bit emotionally driven at the moment – I’m struggling to find excuses for it, we need to go and get a win.”

Staunton had a goal ruled out shortly after his side had been reduced to ten men, something which he says he hasn’t had an explanation about.

“As is the way these days, the goalkeeper tried catching… well, I don’t know what the goalie was trying to do. I just jumped up and headed it, he came flying into the back of me, I was pretty stationary, my arms were down and no explanation given, just ‘it’s a foul’.

“When things are against you, it seems things really are against you, those things swing matches. It would have been a real positive swing on going down to ten, but as seems to be the way the goalies are protected.”

The captain was happy to express he fr****tion (we’ve banned that word) at both the incident which saw Gime Toure sent off and the Southend goal, calling them both key moment which cost the side a better result.

“We were under the cosh a bit, they were committing men and the bloke had an unopposed header in the box, as seems to be the way at the moment. He’s headed it into the far corner, it was a decent header to be fair to him, but again it’s a momentary lapse in concentration which has cost us all three today.”

The second half of the game, saw a rise in effort to make up for the one man, and one goal deficit, but it was not enough.

“One thing you’ll never question with this group is the resiliance, the application and the attitude, everyone had a go today and those boys are on their absolute last legs out there… when you go down to ten against a decent footballing team, you are doing a hell of a lot of running, at the back we were leaving ourselves man-v-man an awful lot to try and get the goal.”

Yeovil Town’s “must win” game on Tuesday kicks off at 7:45pm at Dorking Wanderers.
