Matt Worthington is sure that Yeovil will start getting wins soon after the Glovers were held to a 0-0 draw against Maidenhead.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins he said that a new manager with new ideas would start paying off soon.

Hopefully everyone can see it was a big improvement from recent weeks, yeah, we are disappointed not to get the three points, but it’s an improved performance

“Clean sheets always help, unfortunately we didn’t get one at the other end, but I’m sure that’ll come.”

Yeovil welcomed two new faces into the squad and Worthington was pleased with how Anthony Georgiou and Andrew Oluwabori got going on debut.

“I think the new additions, the wingers looked good coking on, (they) gave us some more attacking threat”

“I think they’re very direct, like to get balls in the box and it’s only a matter of time before we start scoring goals”

…we know what the problem is, we need to score more goals, midfielders need to score more goals, strikers need to score more goals, but like I said, today was a much improved performance and hopefully going forward, we will get them”

Worthy also spoke about Mark Cooper, a manager he has worked with before, has begun his tenure as Glovers boss and he’s looking forward to seeing the improvements come.

“He’s got a very good footballing brain, you could see that from the first day he came in, the training sessions have been very good, very structured and we know what he wants and what he demands… performances will get better under him”

“Training has been really enjoyable, he wants us to start playing football, I think today you saw glimpses of us in possession but now we can just work on the final third”

Yeovil Town Manager Mark Cooper confirmed that Walsall’s Sam Perry has returned to his parent club.

The midfielder didn’t feature in Tuesday night’s draw and post match Cooper confirmed he was no longer in his plans.

Louis Britton celebrates with Cork City

Furthermore, he confirmed he was waiting on the clearance to sign former Bristol City front man Louis Britton.

Britton, who has been in Ireland with Cork City and Waterford, has plenty of experience in the South West with loans at Torquay, Bath City and Yate Town.

He scored 10 goals in 17 for Waterford before joining Cork City where he lifted silverware.

Cooper said; “if we can get Louis Britton’s clearance, who scores goals for fun, we will be alright.”

Britton needs international clearance from the Irish FA as his registration crosses international borders.

Yeovil Town have announced the short term signing of Anthony Georgiou, on loan from Leyton Orient.

Georgiou is a Cypriot international winger who was on the books of Tottenham through the youth ranks making a number of first team appearances for Spurs in pre season games.

He has also spent time on loan in the EFL.

Speaking to the Club’s YouTube channel, Georgiou said he was happy to be at Yeovil and getting going.

“The gaffer was really positive talking about me, and that’s what you want, to feel wanted somewhere, it’s a good thing to have.”

“As an attacking player, you want to get on the ball and create and that’s what my job is to do here.”

He describes himself as “mainly a winger” but says he wants to create and score some goals… which is absolutely fine by us!

Welcome to Somerset, Anthony!

Let’s keep this one quick.

With neither Yeovil Town or Plymouth Parkway in action on Saturday, the only contracted Glover in action was Ollie Haste, and even he had to wait for his chance.

Truro gave North Shields a bit of a thrashing winning 6-0, but Haste had to wait 70 minutes to get on the pitch.

The Glovers’ defender replaced Shane White with the score at 3-0 before the White Tigers rattled three more goals in.

Nice work, Ollie.

Midfielder Callum Rowe has left Yeovil Town following the expiry of the short-term contract when he joined at the end of August.

The 23-year-old was brought to Huish Park by former manager Chris Hargreaves and made his debut coming off the bench in the Glovers’ first win of the season, the 1-0 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge a few days after his arrival.

But, having come off the bench in the Bank Holiday Monday draw at Wealdstone, the former Aston Villa youngster suffered an injury which kept him out until he was given his first start in the ill-fated FA Cup fourth qualifying round replay at Taunton Town.

His last game came in the 2-0 home defeat to Aldershot Town which proved to be Hargreaves’ last in charge of the club.

Go well in the future, Callum.

Edit to say Callum Rowe has now since joined Salisbury FC and was part of their squad on Saturday

Yeovil Town goalkeeper Grant Smith spoke to BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins after the game against Woking on Tuesday and, in a wide ranging interview, spoke about the teams perceived lack of confidence and how they’d be working hard to turn the form around.

“I don’t think it’s confidence, I just think it’s the way games pan out at the moment, we’re trying to hold on, whether it’s for the 1-0 win or just holding on for the clean sheet i just think we’re adding more and more pressure… eventually, teams can’t defend for 90 minutes.”

The “Best ‘Keeper In The League (Barrett, B Nov ’22) told Sheridan that he’s pleased with his own performances but that it counts for little in the grand scheme of things.

Personally, I feel like I’ve been doing OK, but it’s a team game and at the end of the day if we’re not picking up results, it doesn’t matter how good or bad you do.”

With no First Round FA Cup game this weekend Smith hopes the break between games will serve his side well as they adjust to life under a new manager.

I think this weekend, not having a game, could be a blessing because now we can spend some hours on the training pitch and hopefully the manager can play and put into shape what he wants from us and we’ve got enough time now before the next game now, we can put it from practice.”

SPC at Huish Park ? – Somerset FA

Yeovil Town will once again host Taunton Town in cup football when the Peacocks come to Huish Park for the second round of the Men’s Somerset Premier Cup.

The tie has been set for Tuesday 15th November with a kick off time of 7.45pm

It marks the first step in the defence of the trophy won by Charlie Lee and his side in the 2021-22 season.

The referee has been confirmed as being Mark Russell who has been a regular with the flag as an assistant in the Championship and EFL competitions.

No ticket details have been confirmed at time of writing.

It was a first match up against Darren Sarll since he left back in March, and the Glovers’ former manager got one over his old team guiding Woking to 1-0 win in Mark Cooper’s second match in charge of Yeovil Town.

A late Padraig Amond goal was the difference between the two sides in Surrey but only after he had seen a penalty saved by Grant Smith.

Sheridan Robins from her usual vantage point watching Yeovil Town from the BBC Radio Somerset commentary box.

BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins was in the commentary box at Kingfield and here are her five conclusions.

It is plainly obvious the issues stem from not scoring goals.
Woking are a good side. They have goals all over the pitch, but Yeovil kept them at bay through some excellent one-on-one defending and a superb penalty save. But, when you have little up front, one mistake and the game is gone.

Sticking your centre back up front when chasing a goal tells you all you need to know about the lack of attacking prowess, but Mark Cooper was right, he was a threat. However, you don’t want to rely on that. The lack of natural goal scorers all over the pitch is the killer.

Grant Smith has had a superb season – but is not getting the plaudits he deserves.

And that is not a criticism of supporters, it is natural because the team are in the bottom four. However, he has continually kept the Glovers in games, and now saved two penalties this season. He did not deserve to be on the losing side last night – and that has been true multiple times this season.

Alex Fisher, Chiori Johnson and Max Hunt applaud the fans at Maidstone
? David Coates

Players will be given a chance under Mark Cooper and Max Hunt being back in the side showcases that.

He mentioned post match that there are still players vying for a place. I think this week is a big week for him to properly assess what he has at his disposal. He also said it is his job to get the best out of this squad which has been assembled. There will be changes and additions – I have no doubt about that – but it is also about instilling belief into the players currently wearing the shirt.

I think this is obvious and has been for a while but Yeovil are in a relegation battle. After Torquay’s storming win last night, things are getting tight at the bottom. The poor start to the season has put them in this position and a change has been made. The priority now has to be to pull away from that drop zone – experience is crucial in this division and the man in the dugout has plenty of that. I felt the fans were behind him last night – that can only be a positive. One game at a time, as they say!

We all wanted to be in the first round of the FA Cup, but maybe with everything that has happened a full week on the training pitch could be just what the Glovers need.

I will be commentating on MK Dons v Taunton, but I imagine Yeovil will be in a lot over the next week and it is a chance for new and fresh ideas.

With two home games in a row coming up – it might be just the reset they need to get results over the line.

Sam Pearson. Picture courtesy of Mike Kunz.

Sam Pearson, who returned to Bristol City from Yeovil citing fatigue last week, played 30 minutes for Bristol City’s Under 21s on Tuesday afternoon.

The young Robins beat their Charlton counterparts 2-0 with Pearson coming into the game on 61 minutes.

The tricky attacker had a couple of chances to extend his sides lead, in a game Bristol City dominated throughout.

It was noted that Pearson was returning to his parent club on a “temporary” basis suggesting he has a future at Huish Park before his original loan deal expires in January.
