UPDATE: No sooner than we post this, Grimsby have announced the departure of Jordan Maguire-Drew by mutual consent.

Grimsby Town manager Paul Hurst has said that Jordan Maguire-Drew is expected to return to his parent club this week following the expiry of his initial loan deal.

Speaking to the Grimsby Telegraph, Hurst said: “As it stands Jordan [Maguire-Drew] will return [this week]. To my mind, if a permanent move was going to happen then that would’ve been sorted by now, so I’m expecting him to be back with us. If someone comes back and they conduct themselves in a certain way, and we all know what that means, then they won’t be involved but that also goes for the players that haven’t gone out on loan.”

“Ultimately, he’s our player I said that I reluctantly agreed to let him go out on loan, I wasn’t pushing him out the door so it is very much in Jordan’s court in terms of how he comes back. I’m very open-minded with it all and everything I’ve seen and read suggests he’s done well [at Yeovil] so time my mind, he is contracted with us and will be back, but it is up to him now.”

Following the defeat to Bromley, Glovers’ gaffer Mark Cooper said he expected a permanent deal to be confirmed in the early part of this week with the suggestion that personal terms had already been agreed when the initial loan deal was agreed.

Cooper said that a permanent deal for the forward was “more or less done.” He added: “Hopefully we can announce that early in the week.

Clearly there’s some miscommunication somewhere in the matrix, Maguire-Drew has played just three league games in the Green and White of Yeovil including scoring the all important second goal against Torquay on New Years’ Day.

The Somerset FA have published the full list of Quarter Final ties for the Somerset Men’s Premier Cup.

The Glovers’ away game against Paulton Rovers has been scheduled for Tuesday 14th February with a 19:45 kick off.

Yeovil have a free weekend prior with Gateshead away now postponed due to Heed’s FA Trophy involvement and Mark Cooper’s side will host Notts County on the 18th.

Larkhall’s tie against Bath and Bridgwater’s game against Weston Super Mare will both take place 24 hours later on Wednesday 15th.

The other tie sees Bishop Sutton taking on Frome with that game pencilled in for Tuesday 31st January.

The Glovers beat Taunton Town 2-1 in the last round as they look to defend their 2022 crown.

At time of writing ticket details have not been confirmed, but a Valentines Date Night at Winterfield Road sounds like an opportunity not to be missed!

Yeovil Town forward Ollie Hulbert has joined National League North side, Leamington FC on a loan deal through until the end of the season.

The striker had been at Plymouth Parkway until last week but now joins the Brakes for the remainder of the campaign – his third loan club of the season having also had a short time at Gloucester City.

Leamington boss Paul Holleran said on Hulbert’s arrival;

‘I’m delighted to get Oliver over the line,’ said the manager on the new arrival. ‘He’s a player that was very impressive in this division last year. It’s an area we have been looking to improve. We’ve been looking for another option for a number of months, but trying to find the right number nine at the moment is something that has proved to be very difficult.

‘Oliver is a player that we know has the potential to add a different dimension to our attack, and throughout his young career he has always scored goals. We are really looking forward to working with him.’

Hulbert has made just three league appearances for the Glovers this season, most recently a cameo from the bench against Maidstone on October 29th.

Loan Watch fans are delighted at this news!

Go well, Ollie.

Whilst the Yeovil Town first team might have come unstuck at Bromley their army of loanees were out and about, but only one was getting more game time, let’s round up what happened.

Down in Plymouth we start with Parkway who were on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat to the Met Police.

Toby Stephens came off the bench in the 65th minute, but couldn’t help his side find an equaliser.

There was only one real winner – the weather – in the games involving Sherborne Town (Benjani and Jake Graziano), Gillingham Town (Rob Hollard and Sam Hodges) and Truro (Ollie Haste), as all were postponed.

We assume Max Evans‘ loan at Bedford Town has been concluded ahead of schedule (he was meant to be with the Eagles until 19th Jan) as he was once again not involved for them.

And then there’s Will Dawes up at Stratford who was also not involved for the Bards, it’s unclear if his ‘short term’ deal has come to an end or not.

Yeovil Town boss Mark Cooper has suggested he is ready to make changes after seeing his side go down 4-1 at Bromley on Saturday.

The Glovers conceded four goals for the first time since the end of the 2020-21 campaign as their defensive solidity abandoned them whilst their inability to convert chances continued spurning numerous glorious opportunities.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins after the match, Cooper said his players had given him an opportunity to ring the changes as they travel to promotion-chasing Barnet on Tuesday night.

He said: “It has certainly given me a chance to make decisions. I have just said to the players (in the dressing room) that they keep giving me an opportunity to change things at half-time, and I didn’t today because we were creating chances.

But if I was a player I wouldn’t want to keep giving the manager the chance to take people off at half time, that was a possibility again today, we have to starting shaking things up.”

The Glovers’ boss described his side’s start as “horrendous” as they went behind to a bizarre deflected goal awarded to Ravens’ Louis Dennisafter just nine minutes before gifting on-loan Millwall defender Besart Topalloj a second after 32 minutes.

But, their poor form in front of goal which leaves them comfortably the division’s lowest scorers with 21 goals in 25 matches continued with Jordan Maguire-Drew and Andrew Oluwabori both missing glorious opportunities before the break.

In the second half, Cooper threw on new signing Jordan Young and joint top-scorer Malachi Linton in a bid to get goals only to end up conceding a third to Dennis just after the hour.

He said: “The whole last ten days (in training) have been about being on the front foot and being really aggressive getting after the opposition and pressing high.

We were 2-0 down before we know it through two horrendous goals, we have three clear one-on-ones in the first half to seriously change the game, we don’t take them.

In the second half we gamble, I gamble to try and get back in it and we have chances, we concede the third goal as we leave ourselves a bit short at the back.

We score (through Andrew Oluwabori) and then we have a brilliant chance, Jamie Reckord has a brilliant chance to make it 3-2 with 15 minutes to go, we don’t score, they go down the other end and score.

The start was horrendous, that’s nothing like we worked on, so we have some big decisions to make in terms of which way we’re going to go forward.

Of his second half substitutions, he added: “I was just trying to get forwards on the pitch to try and get us back in the game, one midfield player and the rest were forwards, we were 3-0 down, we’ve just to try and see if we can get a goal back, make it interesting, we did then we had a brilliant chance to make it 3-2 but we didn’t take it.

I don’t like publicly criticising players but when you have opportunities like that, you have to score, that’s what you’re in the team for.

The game was Maguire-Drew’s final of a one-month loan from League Two Grimsby Town and Cooper said that a permanent deal for the forward was “more or less done.” He added: “Hopefully we can announce that early in the week.

Another Saturday means it’s time for another edition of the original and best #YTFC Loan Watch.

It wasn’t a great day for many of the Glovers loanees though.

Let’s start at Sherborne Town.
The Zebra’s started Jake Graziano in defence and Benjani Jnr was back amongst the substitutes after recovering from a slight injury.

However, their side fell 3-1 to Buckland Athletic.

At Gillingham (with a hard G) Sam Hodges and Rob Hollard will have to wait for their debut after the Gills’ (again, hard G) game against match against Brislington fell foul to the weather.

To Plymouth where Mother Nature was the winner as Parkway’s game against Gosport Borough was also a wash out.

Toby Stephens and Ollie Hulbert will have to wait for their next appearance.

Speaking of those who didn’t play, Max Evans was left out of the Bedford Town squad to play Hednesford Town.

Bedford signed goalkeeper Dale Eve from Hereford this week and he appears to have got the nod. Evans’ loan spell was due to end on January 19th.

Back to those who did play on the weekend and Will Dawes was back in action for Stratford Town.

King’s Langley FC scored two late goals to turn the game around and take three points.

Dawes played the full 90.

As did Ollie Haste at Truro who was part of the White Tigers’ action packed 2-2 draw away at Hendon.

Plenty of these sides are back in midweek action so stay tuned for more round ups on the Gloverscast.

Yeovil Town have announced official departure of two contracted players and two loanees.

Louis Britton was signed on a season long deal soon after the arrival of Mark Cooper but has been deemed surpluss to requirements and leaves his deal six months early by mutual consent.

He played just a handful of times, scoring in the Somerset Men’s Premier Cup against Taunton.

Jake Scrimshaw has been missing from squads since the 22nd of October, he was a late subsititute in the 2-0 defeat to Oldham, Mark Cooper recently confirmed he had been dealing with a “personal issue”, but he now leaves the club.

He departs with as much as 18 months left on his original deal having made just four subsitute appearances, he failed to score in Green and White.

Loanees Ewan Clark and Sam Pearson have also seen their deals expire and they return to Bristol City.

Pearson has confirmed a move to AFC Wimbledon after recovering from fatigue, his last game was also that 2-0 defeat to Oldham.

He returns to Ashton Gate having scored twice for the Glovers.

Ewan Clark, seen by many as Pearson’s replacement, also returns to Bristol with six games under his belt. The tricky winger was last seen in the 0-0 against Scunthorpe at Huish Park on December 10th.

We’d like to wish all four the very best for their future endeavours.

Yeovil Town have confirmed that West Bromwich Albion loanee Jamie Andrews has returned to the Hawthorns after the expiry of his loan spell.

The 20-year old played eight times in the Glovers midfield with performances against Notts County and FC Halifax Town standing out from the pack.

His final appearance came in the 2-0 home win over Torquay United on New Year’s Day.

All the best back at the Baggies, Jamie.

The FA have confirmed a charge for former Yeovil manager Gary Johnson after the Torquay boss saw red after the Gulls’ Boxing Day clash with the Glovers.

According to the monthly charges, Johnson has been charged with;

Breach of FA Rule E3.1:

1. It is alleged that upon completion of the fixture, Mr. Johnson’s language and/or behaviour was improper and/or insulting and/or abusive towards a Match Official.

2. It is alleged that following his dismissal his behaviour was improper.

The Club have until 6:00pm on Wednesday 4 January 2023 to provide a response.

Johnson was present in the dugout for the return fixture on New Year’s Day, but could face a slap on the wrist and a view from the stands of a future Torquay game as a result.

In other semi- relevant YTFC discipline news, the FA have confirmed that the red card issued to Barnet’s Nicke Kabamba on Boxing Day has been downgraded from a three match ban to just one, which means he will now be available for the Bees when Yeovil head to the Hive on January 17th.

Yeovil Town loan star Jordan Maguire-Drew has been named in the official Vanarama Team of the Week following his performance against Torquay.

The Grimsby Town forward, who could well become a Glover on a permanent basis if conversations go well, is joined by other players with a YTFC connection.

Alfie Lloyd scored within 10 seconds of kick off for Eastleigh at the weekend and Nathan Ralph also gets in after a good display for Southend.

Nice work, Jordan… now about that contract.
