Yeovil Town have announced the signing of goalkeeper Joe Day from Newport County on loan for the remainder of the season.

Day was recalled from another season-long loan at National League Premier side Woking where he featured twice under ex-Glovers’ boss Darren Sarll. He has not played in either of the Cards’ last two matches with Will Jaaskelainen, the son of former Bolton Wanderers’ stopper, Jussi, taking his place.

Day was on the bench for Newport’s 2-0 pre-season defeat to Yeovil at Huish Park in July.

The 33-year-old, who played 34 times for the South Wales club in League Two last season, comes in to the squad to challenge Will Buse for the number one spot after back-up keeper Lewis Williams was sent out on loan to Southern League side Tiverton Town last month.

The Brighton-born stopper is something of a Newport legend with well over 250 games for the Welsh side.

He goes straight into the squad to face Chelmsford City at Huish Park on Saturday.
