On today’s episode of the Gloverscast we talked at length about the future of Mark Cooper following the defeat at Forest Green Rovers. It’s only two games into the season, but the mood is so sour Rowntrees wish they could bag it up and sell it. It’s unusual to have this level of feeling this early and we know that it’s not just Garybunchofnumbers on X.

We were inundated with questions about the future of the manager and whether it was time for a change. One of the GCQs that came through was to put a poll out. So, here we are. Fence-dwellers, you have a not sure option if you need it.

Do you think Mark Cooper should remain Yeovil manager?

  • No (65%, 700 Votes)
  • Yes (22%, 240 Votes)
  • I'm not sure (13%, 135 Votes)

Sour Rowntrees or not – you’re asking this two games into the season? An OK draw and a disappointing away defeat at a team I would have expected us to lose to… FFS

I’m not saying I’m a fan of Cooperball. I’m really not. I’m saying it’s an odd time to ask the question ‘fella’

It’s not just 2 games though, it’s 2025 as a whole. A really disappointing end to the last campaign. Mr Coopers dour attitude and the mass exodus of fan favourites. Something at the club is not right and the only constant is the manager.

And his son. Who, when out injured season before last, missed the run of 14 straight wins which was the most entertaining football we’ve played for many years.

It’s just a continuation of last season. More of the same.

Style of play is a concern. Too much route 1 which is never effective. So many set pieces not coming off . Wouldn’t get rid of him yet as they’ve had a difficult start. Clean sheets are great but not creating or scoring enough.

Too early for this imo. But accept things need to improve quickly.

2 games into the season. People who actually understand the last 2 seasons won’t be using those against him. I’m surprised he did not walk a long time ago.

Why would he walk away?? Football at this level is cutthroat enough and if somebody is daft enough to give you a 3 year contract (as our last owner was) surely you just smile and take it. I certainly don’t blame him for that, but that shouldn’t mean we all have to suffer another 2 seasons of this.

See my comment to the other chap/chapette. Lots of reasons. But all irrelevant now.

Please explain last season to me, because all I saw was dull, unimaginative football with few goals and even less entertainment.

I’m not talking about on the pitch. It’s old news now and nothing to gain by going over anything. People either know, think they know or don’t know. And whether people blame the manager for failings last season or not is a decent indicator as to their level of knowledge on the situation.

Looking forward to Nicholas returning to the Gloverscast pod in September. Will be interesting to listen to what direction the club is taking after 5-10 games.

Me and my two buddies are sick of these performances. How can someone stay in a job this long while performing so badly. I know it’s lower league but there’s got to be someone better. Change is never bad. Plus he’s a miserable chap, might do him some good to be relieved of his duties

Change can most certainly be bad. Very bad. As we have found out in the past. Be interesting to see where we are in 5 games time.

Based on Coopers near 3 years it’s time to go. Style, engagement with fans is enough in itself.

Not sure he needs to go, but he is an absolute misery-guts. Hard to expect fans to be enthusiastic and positive when his mood music is so depressing.

It’s an act Mate, its so we don’t discover his alter ego to top up his wages….. if you have noticed, you never see Mark and Jolly in the same room, at the same time! 😉😄👍🏻

We only watch the game when they play at home, as we come 140 miles, we have notice the drummers and the atmosphere is very poor and the players are ignoring the manager and the players don’t know what there position is, I feel sorry for the players, but last season was really bad enough and now the new season is repeating itself, surely the new owner must listen to the fan base, after all it is a family club, it’s a shame that the atmosphere is making the game depressing.
So the voting is getting stronger, new manager new season..

Excluding pre-season, what are the 2025 stats? Is there someone that can knock together the numbers? (This year hasn’t had many highs)

I know this is going to go down like a ton of bricks but here goes.So he got us promoted from national league south then last season I thought just staying in the league was priority.so I’m going to judge him on this season and we are only two games in and I had us to draw against hartlepool and thought we might lose away to forest green. Tomorrow’s game is massive and we need to win it but I’m happy to see what happens and see where we are In October but at the moment I’m 100% behind cooper the owners and the team.

Yeovil’s form in the second half of last season was 22 points from 23 games, relegation form.
That statistic suggests that if you don’t change the manager, you’re likely to get relegated the following season.
The manager had been here over two & a half seasons, so it was entirely his team/squad.

Last season, the manager played a narrow attacking system, not utilising any width.
This, predictably, led to a lack of scoring chances & a lack of goals.

Some people pointed out after the first game of last season (the defeat at home to Hartlepool), exactly what kind of season Yeovil were in for, unless Mark Cooper changed his tactics. He didn’t.

After a disastrous pre-season in terms of results, & a totally underwhelming lack of quality signings, the season has started as we surely all imagined it would.

We needed to sign goal scorers, & wide players & attacking midfielders who could provide assists.

Mark Cooper has signed one winger, who in the first two games hasn’t played on the wing.

Ideally, Yeovil’s forward line: Jarvis, Campbell, Morias, Greenslade & Wodskou need to be scoring about 46 league goals between them. Given the system Yeovil are playing, this looks highly unlikely.

When Aaron Jarvis played for Torquay, his strike rate was 1 goal every 2.33 games. Since joining Yeovil his strike rate is 1 in 4.14 games.
Cooper deploys him as some kind of battering ram, with no other Yeovil player anywhere near him.
Why?

Cooper’s comments after the Forest Green game i.e. Their whole starting eleven could play in League Two, their budget is four times what ours is, is beginning to remind me of the Darren Way era.
The next thing he’ll be telling us, is what a fantastic job he’s doing just keeping us in the National League.

Crickey mark hats off and I mean that what a great reply and yes I agree with pretty much most of it.I also get frustrated watching Aaron jarvis week in week out getting battered and no other yeovil player near him to work of him and I understand your other comments .Don’t get me wrong if its not going well by October (which I’m guessing you think it won’t be)I will also be thinking it’s time for a change.yep mark is certainly running out of chances and perhaps I’m a bit more forgiven but I’m just getting behind him and the team and we are only 2 games into the season.

Never going to be easy being in charge of any club at national league level but I think cooper is the right man for the job for Yeovil having gone through a relagation and promotion we all want promotion back to the football league let’s believe in cooper he has our football club in his heart UPTHEGLOVERS

He got us promoted and kept us up, whilst turning the squad over to weed out the players that couldn’t take us to the next level. That’s a massively impressive last two seasons, even if the football has been awful (for a look at what our situation could have been though, look at our Devon neighbours). IMO he gets 15 games this season to show he’s recruited a squad that can push for the playoffs. If we’re stuck in the bottom half and still can’t score at that point, then SR can shake his hand, thank him for his contributions and we move on amicably.

He got us relegated in the first place!
We had the fifth best attendances in the league & finished 18th. What’s massively impressive about that?
I agree we should be aiming for the playoffs, but unless he quickly changes his formation & tactics, it looks a forlorn hope.
