Yeovil Town Women returned to action in style on Sunday as they thumped Wells City FC 4-0 following a weekend without football. This was their third league win in a row after beating Appledore and Feniton in previous weeks. Following their exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Winchester a fortnight ago, the Glovers bounced back to form in stunning fashion.

First half goals have defined Yeovil’s league season so far and they continued this trend as Lily McNally gave the Glovers the lead on the ten minute mark.

Moments later the lead was doubled courtesy of Chloe Davenport, who finished calmly to the keeper’s left.

Mid way through the half goalkeeper Emily Hall was called into action for the first time, as she produced a fantastic save to deny the visitors from a set piece.

The Glovers went in at the break two goals to the good.

Yeovil continued to knock on the door in the early stages of the second period, as goalscorers McNally and Davenport attempted to combine – it was the former who did extend the lead further on 47 minutes.

This pressure was demonstrated further in the 67th minute, as Jodi Cornwall struck the woodwork.

Two minutes later Becky Miles opened her league account, making it 4-0 to the Glovers, as she converted spectacularly direct from her corner.

Yeovil Town Women manager Dave Court spoke after his side’s win:

“I think everyone put on a really enjoyable afternoon in some difficult conditions so credit to everyone involved, it was really testing and I think everyone was a credit to the game. He began.

Dave praised his team’s togetherness in tough conditions.

“It’s a dressing room full of people who will work hard for each other, that’s the standard that they set themselves, I think we’ve got a group who do set high standards in terms of effort and commitment to each other, to performing well. We needed that resilience today in really difficult conditions.”

“We’re working calmly each week, we work hard in training to put things in place, so that on difficult days like today the girls have got a structure that they can work within and we hope their quality can shine through and today it did”.

Dave looked ahead to next week’s trip to Appledore.

“We’ll enjoy today, we’ll train twice, we’ll work hard, work on our fitness, which I think is an important thing for us to keep working on. We know Appledore will cause us problems, especially on their home pitch, so again we have to go there, be resilient, be hardworking, do the basics and hopefully our quality will come through, as it has today. However we do expect a very difficult game.”

Sunday’s win meant that the Glovers maintained their perfect record in the league, with three wins out of three. This puts them top of the Shield Services Group South West Regional Womens Football League Division One South.

Yeovil Town Women return to action on Sunday 26th October, as they travel to Appledore 14:00 KO.
